The Pollution Solution Group would like to give some credit to 44-year-old,
Mr Scrrgy, from Rostov-On -Don, Russia. He is a traffic controller with his
wife on holiday in Thailand. While enjoying the beach, he daily removes
plastic, styrofoam, toxic cigarette butts, bottle caps and other man made
litter, from Jomtien Beach, that endangers the voiceless, children, wildlife
and waterways also being an eye-soar to all.
We felt it our duty to let others know about this man that takes care of
Mother Earth, wherever he may be, home or abroad, we only wish there were
more people like him.

Use common sense

Re: Pattaya beginning to earn bad reputation with Russian tourists (PM
Friday, 30 November 2012) - I’ve been visiting Pattaya off and on for twenty
years. Never had any problem. Use common sense. Don’t wear expensive
jewellery or watches. Don’t carry an expensive cellphone. Carry only enough
cash for the day or evening, and carry it in a concealed pouch under your
shirt. Don’t pick up girls off the street. Make sure the hotel has her ID.
And most important, mix your own drink in your room and never take your eyes
off it. Same rules you should use anywhere.

Re: Pattaya tunnel planning to take another 3 months (PM Friday, 23 November
2012) - Are these people qualified and are they serious? Nobody seems
capable of designing a fairly simple storm water drainage system that works
and now they want to take us underground. I wonder how many people will be
put at risk because of this. Go overpass or leave alone I say.

Pattaya traffic

No supervision. Buses park where they like. Yesterday, Sat-1-Dec, 10 parked
on Third Road all day, reducing it to one lane, causing a big holdup back to
the lights and beyond at South Pattaya.
Beach Road: vendors set up stalls on the road. This is a major road; the
traffic needs all the room it can get.
Cars & baht-buses stop where they like, instead of trying to pull into a
space that will not block the traffic flow, double parking.
Just what is the police role? Other than stopping bikers without helmets,
and overtaking on motorways at the end of each month?
At the weekend Pattaya is gridlocked. What is the policy of closing u-turns
on many major roads? Sending them further along the road to queue at the one
and only u-turn.
The best about Thailand traffic was the free-for-all, in my view this keeps
traffic moving.
Pattaya is a tourist destination. when are you going to realise that and
make it easier for tourists to get from one area to another, and be able to
cross a road?
Why do I never hear about a future high speed rail link from
Bangkok-Airport-Pattaya? Surely this would be a winner. Would this not
reduce the traffic coming into Pattaya, and maybe you would not need to plan
for a underpass at Klang. If Thappraya Road to Jomtien is any example of
major road works, the under-pass will take 10+ years. You already have a
rail line from Bkk, what would it take to up-grade it? Less than 10 years I
believe, and also you would be reducing vehicle pollution.

2nd Road traffic lights still just blinking

About one year ago I emailed you regarding the 2nd Road pedestrian crossing
lights that never work. I even went to a city hall office to notify them. I
was told they would contact the relevant authorities. Today it’s still the
same, the lights flashing amber for speeding traffic. This is a serious
accident waiting to happen.

quoted for a heart bypass operation must be at a government hospital. I was
quoted 500,000 baht earlier this year by a local hospital for putting in a
couple of stents. That’s almost US $17,000 for what is basically an
outpatient procedure.

Restrict large tour buses to bus terminal

Re: Traffic is getting worse (PM Mailbag, Friday, 30 November 2012) - It
seems common sense to have large tour buses restricted to the Bus Terminal,
i.e.; where we board buses for Bangkok. Pattaya is made up of a myriad of
tiny sois. Hence, vehicle size should at the maximum be ‘mini-van’ size.
Almost a no-brainer.
Town planning even in newly released land being developed towards Jomtien is
totally absent. One would have thought that the newly developed areas would
have sidewalks and underground cables - after learning from the mess in
developed parts. Sadly, not.
The problem with common sense is it ain’t very common. The traffic is bad
and headed for worse once the 4000+ condo units in Pattaya get ready over
2013 & 2014. By that stage it will become attractive to live at Hua Hin or
elsewhere and leave a heavily smog-filled and traffic-clogged Pattaya to the
locals and other die-hards!
The joy of being a ‘farang’ is our ability to up and leave when things get
unbearable. Thailand has laws for everything including ‘a ban on
prostitution’. Maybe common-sense will allow govt. & police to implement a
fraction of the traffic laws.

Non-violent toys

Re: Condom shop raided for selling sex toys (PM Friday, 07 December 2012) -
Thailand should not forbid any toy when there is no violence with it. Thai
police should not be bothered by sexual questions. But toys representing
violence, like “toy” shooting guns, should be forbidden. Because any
shooting gun is representing killing actions lowering the mental limit for
violence in the adult life.
