Neighbors in Tune: Tune Hotels launch community beautification project across Thailand
Neighborhoods looking better: Tune Hotel Pattaya
staff remove litter and debris from Pattaya’s beach front.
Tune Hotels, Asia’s emerging force in award-winning
“value on a budget” hotel development, has launched a regional community
project to beautify the neighborhoods in which they operate.
The “Neighbors in Tune” Community Beautification Project was launched on
March 18 and ran over two days, in Tune Hotel across Thailand, the
Philippines and Indonesia in a unique community initiative undertaken by the
hotel group.
In Thailand, a key development market for the rapidly expanding budget hotel
brand, Tune Hotels in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Hat Yai engaged in a raft
of activities with local partners to make neighborhoods look better, and
neighbors feel better.
In the south, Tune Hotel Hat Yai joined hands with Songkla Municipality,
Odean Shopping Mall, Diana Shopping Mall and Haad Tip Company to see a
40-strong team plant trees at Laem Son Aon Lake. While at Tune Hotel Patong,
Phuket, the group was joined by Simon Cabaret Show and Kathu Chief District
Officer, Veera Kerdsirimongkol who headed to the famous beachfront, brooms
in hand, to clean debris and garbage off the beach.
Social sensitivities: Tune
Hotels at their four locations across Thailand teamed up with other local
organizations, restoring and enhancing the beauty of their neighborhoods
including this good-hearted group cleaning the beach in Pattaya.
Tune Hotel Pattaya partnered with the Civil Defense
Association led by Eakkasith Tanyakarn and Sawangboriboon Foundation Pattaya
City’s Prasit Thongthitcharoen while Duang Pratheep Foundation teamed up
with Bangkok Tune Hotel Asoke and painted the Community Heath and
Development Centre in the Bon Kai community.
Tune Hotels in Thailand are owned and operated by Red Planet Hotels and
Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, Mark Armsden, said it was
important to not only provide innovative new hotel options to leisure and
business travelers but to be equally creative in the contribution made to
the community.
“We are delighted to roll out ‘Neighbors in Tune’ this week and it has been
encouraging to not only join with local officials who have been tremendously
supportive but with the local communities that turned out in force to help
along with guests in our hotels also participating,” he said.
“We very much see ourselves as long term partners, fully committed to the
communities in which we operate. This is just the beginning. We look forward
to doing more in Tune’s neighborhoods and communities in the future.”

Ripley’s open’s ‘Sky Rider,’
Thailand’s 1st tethered balloon ride
Ripley’s Sky Rider offers
passengers a bird’s eye view of Pattaya.
Pawinee Kaewkert
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is giving tourists a bird’s eye view of
Pattaya with the opening of Thailand’s first tethered helium balloon.
Called “Ripley’s Sky Rider,” the balloon ride on the roof of Royal Garden
Plaza opened to the public April 3 after undergoing tests since December.
Manufactured and operated by France’s Aerophile SAS, the 72-meter-wide
balloon’s 6,200 cu. meters of air can carry 30 passengers 150 meters in the
air.
Somporn Naksuetrong, deputy managing director for Royal Garden and Ripley’s,
said the balloon is Aerophile’s first to be operated from a rooftop. Three
Thai pilots trained in France will operate the ride and are supervised by
Aerophile’s Herve Moine.
The ride is Ripley’s eighth attraction to open at the South Pattaya mall and
cost the company 80 million baht to install. The company hopes to recover
its investment by charging Thais 1,000 baht and foreigners 1,500 baht for
each 10-minute ride. Until Sky Rider officially opens in May, Ripley’s is
running a morning special, offering rides for 300 baht each from 7-11 a.m.
From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Ripley’s offers a buy one-get one free discount
ticket offer.
Somporn Naksuetrong, deputy
managing director for Royal Garden and Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, answers
questions from the media regarding the Ripley’s Sky Rider after calling an
unofficial press conference on the giant balloon.
The Aerophile AERO30NG used is currently the world’s
largest tethered balloon model and is used in six other amusement parks
around the world. A larger balloon, the Cloud 9 in Las Vegas, previously
held the record for the largest tethered balloon. Despite charging half of
Ripley’s ticket price, it went out of business in 2010.
Somporn said there is no restriction on age or height of passengers,
although he warned wind conditions might limit how many people can fly
simultaneously.
Ripley’s Sky Rider heads up
into the sky above the Royal Garden Plaza.
