More swimming in the floods
Editor;
Re: Controversial Beach Road widening begins (PM Friday, 12 April 2013) -
Wait until the floods come in from the sea and won’t go away. Yes, removing
trees will cause further floods and with no trees to drink the water will
cause road erosion. Yes, make Pattaya smaller, no more fun, more swimming in
the floods!

Why destroy the environment?
Editor;
Re: Controversial Beach Road widening begins (PM Friday, 12 April 2013) -
This is absolute insanity. Why is it that City Hall must destroy their
environment? Cut all the trees down, make the new path tiny with no shade,
increase the vehicles polluting the air along the beach… Once the road is
finished, you will have even more buses, songthaews, motorbikes and food
carts parked in the left hand lane. Traffic will not flow any better than
before.

Too much traffic,
not enough parking
Editor;
Re: Controversial Beach Road widening begins (PM Friday, 12 April 2013) -
The problem of Pattaya’s Beach Road is too much traffic and no parking
place. Parking is tolerated everywhere, in all the small sois, even right on
the beach, e.g. in front of Soi 5. Build ample space in (payable) parking
houses with public transport to Beach Road. Forbid parking on public roads
and tow away violating cars. Consider making the Second Road a two
way-street and Beach Road is open for public transport, taxis & buses only.

Traffic solutions
Editor;
Well its funny time in Pattaya again. The City Hall committee set up to
investigate the traffic congestion has come up with the startling idea to
reduce the ‘public’ transport system. Well done. The traffic problem as
perceived by City Hall is that there are too many songthaew baht buses and
to prove it they show a photograph of some parked up.
I live on the Thappraya Road between Jomtien and Pattaya and wish to report
that the songthaew baht buses are full to overcrowded and in short supply.
On the other hand many songthaew have moved over to being for private hire.
My first step when addressing the number of songthaew would be to make more
baht buses and less private hire ones.
The baht bus is the preferred choice for the Thai as it is cheaper and safer
than a motorcycle taxi. Thank you City Hall for proposing that a Thai should
have to pay more and then get a more dangerous form of transport. If a Thai
gets 300 baht a day and has to pay 80 baht for motorcycles then their take
home pay reduces by 60 baht or 20%.
Anyone with any eyes can see that a photo of a songthaew taxi rank pales
into insignificance when seeing the white busses parked up all the roads all
night. Then try watching the road intersections and to see how many of these
white monsters are jamming the roads and the traffic. But of course these
faceless tourists don’t use baht buses. I guess the backhanders from baht
buses are less than the big white jobs. But we are supposed to believe that
reducing the ‘public’ transport system is beneficial.
My opinion is it’s a diversion. Someone in City Hall wants to increase the
number of saloon taxis, the so called meter taxis. Cut down on the cheap
transport system and leave room for a more lucrative one. Its not the
songthaew baht bus that is being watched its the songthaew private hire, but
as the drivers seems to switch at will between the one and the other then to
ease the private hire out both will have to go.

Ban large buses first
Editor;
Re: Controversial Beach Road widening begins (PM Friday, 12 April 2013) -
This is absolute madness. Like an earlier poster said, ban large busses then
limit the number of taxis, and finally properly police the parking areas for
all to use and not just motorbike taxis and motorbike rentals. Problem
solved without spending a single penny.

Load market
Dear Sir;
Having lived peacefully on Pratamnak Soi 6 for many years, we now have to
tolerate a new Russian owned and operated night market right in the middle
of the soi. Nothing wrong with that, except they pump out ear shattering
music from 3pm til midnight, which reverberates around the whole once
peaceful area. Calls to City Hall have failed to stop the racket

Cannot believe it

Re: Controversial Beach Road widening begins (PM Friday, 12 April 2013) -
This is sad news! The lovely sidewalk will be destroyed. I cannot believe
it. This is the best part of Pattaya. Maybe I never go to Pattaya again
because of this. I often go down to the beach there when I visit Thailand
and now the traffic will come even closer to the beach. This is really bad.
I hope it is possible to find another solution for the traffic problem here.

Ban the motorcycle parking

Re: Controversial Beach Road widening begins (PM Friday, 12 April 2013) -
Why can’t they just enforce stopping motorcycle parking and street vendors
on the inside lane to free up the fourth lane which is already there? And
create designated stopping bays for baht taxis? Surely this would be a more
cost effective, less disruptive, and more pleasing than reducing the beach
walkway which, to me at least, is one of the attractions of this city.

Give it a chance
Editor;
Re: Controversial Beach Road widening begins (PM Friday, 12 April 2013) - I
think that whatever improvements City Hall undertakes in Pattaya they will
always be met with reservation. Let’s wait and see how the Beach Road
project to add another lane goes when completed then complain if it’s
justifiable, but not now. Give it a chance to work.

What can I do to help the dogs?
Editor;
Re: PETA calls on Pattaya to stop dropping off dogs at Tony’s Shelter (PM
Friday, 15 July 2011) - Hello, I just returned from a trip to Thailand where
I have noted with dismay the poor health conditions of dogs and cats in
Pattaya. They all suffer from leishmaniasis, even puppies. They are
delivered and even had some very afraid of men. What can I do to help? How
to set up a sterilization campaign and insecticides against mosquitoes?
