Say no to corruption
Editor;
Re: Business owners warned about continuing music-copyright scams (PM
Friday, 21 June 2013) - Those SOB*s came to our restaurant 1 year ago (Udon
Thani) demanding 50,000 baht. My wife and I talked and I said, no signing of
papers, do not do anything. Three hours later at the police station they
were laughing at her and said “pay now so you can go home and sleep”. One
phone call later to my friend that works for DSI, and everyone at the police
station was standing up and being very polite and said, why didn’t you tell
us you had friends at DSI? To sum things up: Not one baht was paid, and I’ve
never seen those guys now for a long time. Say no to corruption!

Rambo style assault
on 4 undefended toilets
Editor;
Re: Ready for anything? (PM Mailbag Friday, 21 June 2013) - While the US
army stormed the beaches at Sattahip, the navy used the confusion to launch
a covert strike at the market on 2nd Road in a Rambo style assault on 4
undefended toilets. The local defence force was mobilised at Soi 9 and put a
stop to the incursion. Claims by the prisoner that $5000 was missing were
denied by the defenders. Rather than cause an international incident all
costs were paid by the US Government.

Real estate carpet baggers move in
Editor;
Re: Pattaya turning into Spain (PM Mailbag Friday, 14 June 2013) - There was
once a show on TV about the English people moving to Spain. They had dreams
of grandeur such as starting snail farms, trailer parks, etc, thinking the
Spanish had nothing like that. Most of them were working class people who
had come into money and had no idea how to handle it. They moved out of a
two bedroom house with outside dunny and wanted a 6 bedroom 7 bathroom
mansion. Sure they got scammed by the locals but then the English real
estate carpet baggers moved in and fleeced their own countrymen. Pattaya is
a spin off of Spain.

Presidential snooping
Editor;
Back in 2001, most of us understood that when the World Trade Center fell,
our (US citizens) rights to unfettered privacy fell with it. We knew that,
in order to prevent future 9-11s, the government would have to amass huge
amounts of phone records and email data. We’d expect our government to learn
to read the difference between potential terror threats and imminent terror
threats, and we understood that they’d be combing through everybody’s
business, in order to keep us safe.
Today, no one would be happy if the Boston bombers were still at large, kept
free because the president was afraid to snoop, afraid to wiretap, afraid to
wade through the personal communications of ordinary citizens. No, we simply
wanted the Boston bombers caught.
The post-911 snooping began under President Bush, and back then, republicans
were quick to claim that such infringements were a small price to pay for
safety against terrorism. Most of us learned to assume that everything we do
on the internet is probably viewable by one security agency or another, and
figured that in an age where a faceless, stateless enemy can strike, kill
thousands, disappear and strike again, we might as well get used to a bit of
Big Brother treatment.
But now we have a different president, a president that republican lawmakers
have vowed to undermine at every turn, vowed to thwart whenever possible,
even if what he does is exactly what they would do. Hence, we get Fox News’s
shrill Freedom Cry: “how dare the president snoop!”
But we’re not dumb enough to listen to Fox News, are we?

Fai Mii Add Kan Village, finish the job and fix the problems?
![](pictures/l5-Fai%20Mii.jpg)
Editor:
In November and December of last year I reported and your paper investigated
and published the problems with this village regarding pipe breakage,
shortage of water and drainage of rain water for a number of years.
After the investigation the utility in the area promised to do the work in a
few months and started in Feb of this year. All work seem to be going fine
although it seem to be taking forever. Even during the heat of the last few
months the work, although slow, was being done. Then the last month the work
stopped and was abandoned just when it seemed they only had one or two sois
left to pour new concrete, because the old concrete was removed to put in
new pipes.
For nearly a month and with the rains coming the job hasn’t been finished.
Residents at many of the homes can’t get their vehicles into their homes and
it is becoming very dangerous for the kids and everyone in the neighborhood.
Another problem has also developed: this village doesn’t have enough garbage
cans throughout the neighborhood, but at least they came everyday like
clockwork to pick up all the trash. The last few months I noticed less and
less service, especially not coming on Saturday or Sunday. By the time they
came Monday the trash now was already overflowing out of the containers and
piles of trash were left outside of the containers. This allowed the dogs to
tear through all the trash and create a mess of litter on the soi. Now I
noticed they have gone from 2 days to as long as 4 days without any service,
and when trash is picked up ,the surrounding area and the soi is full of
trash which they make no attempt to clean up. Neighbors like myself have to
do it. The area is a mess!
Who is in charge and responsible for this mess and when are things going to
get better for the everyone living here? Personally the people in charge
should be ashamed of themselves and quite!

Thailand must be admired
Editor;
Re: PM to British businessmen: Thai politics is stable (PM Wednesday, 19
June 2013) - Thailand must be admired. It has retained democracy amidst the
adversity of military intervention and has managed to grow economically.
Never colonized, Thailand’s relations with India, Britain, USA and the rest
of ASEAN are excellent. It is an attractive international tourist
destination. I wish the Prime Minister well and hope she will allow her
brother Thaksin to return to Thailand soon. May I add, the Prime Minister
has an exceptionally engaging personality.

It’s about time
Editor;
Re: Police force jet ski scammers to return some of funds extorted from
Indian pair (PM Friday, 14 June 2013) - It’s about time the authorities
sorted out these crooks. This scam has been going on for years and no-one
does anything about it. Take away their licenses and make them pay back in
full. My friends got caught in a similar scam 5 years ago and vowed and told
all their friends that they would never return to Pattaya again
