Dr. Piyaporn Tipyarat welcomes the trainees to
learn Basic Life Support at BHP.
Jirawut Amnuaychaisiri, president of the Prasani Community, and Bunthum
Potsuwan of the Hua-thung Community joined students from Pattaya School No.
3 for the Sept. 6 class at the hospital.
Sarayuth Pongphumma, an expert on emergency resuscitation in the hospital’s
Accidents and Emergencies Department led the training on first aid and
resuscitation, sharing information on the reasons for cardiac arrest and the
initial steps that can be taken to care for victims. Guests were guided
through the CPR processes and trained on basic help that can be provided to
victims before ambulances arrive.
“In many countries, first aid is taught to students, bringing marvelous
results since it has decreased the loss of life. Therefore, BHP realizes the
importance of organizing the “iRescue” project for Pattaya School No. 3
students and citizens from the two communities to increase the number of
personnel with knowledge on first aid that can be passed on to communities
or families,” said BHP Vice-President for Social Activities Dr. Piyaporn
Tipyarat.
The workshop was the hospital’s third on life support techniques. Previous
seminars offered training to police, government employees and business
leaders.

The ‘Jom Phalang’ team from
Pattaya School No. 4 accept the winning trophy and cash for the primary school
category from Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome.
Phasakorn Channgam
More than 50 Pattaya students learned the basics of science and
engineering as they assembled hand-made robots at the city’s local K*Bots
Championships.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome presided over the Aug. 28-29 contest at Pattaya School
No. 11 where students built rolling, moving robots from kits sold by K’Nex Corp.
of the U.S.
Itthiphol said the competition was part of the city’s new teaching program,
which stresses practical experience in addition to book learning. The K*Bots
program was organized to highlight science in cooperation with Multi-Education
Co.
Ten teams competed in grade-level divisions. Each group had to explain the
details of its project and build robots with K*Bots kits, which include frames,
wheels and gears. To win, the robot had to actually turn on and move.
In the primary school category, Pattaya School No. 4’s “Jom Phalang” won first
place and 3,000 baht. “Star City” from Pattaya School No. 3 finished second,
taking home 2,000 baht, and Pattaya School No. 5’s “Art Junior Car” took third
and 1,000 baht.
In the high school category, School No. 2’s “Zumo” squad won the 3,000 baht
first-place prize. School No. 6’s “Evolution” group took second and “K*Bot Car
Pattaya” from School No. 9 won third.

Garden International School (GIS) is going even greener - with help from a group
of Eco Ninjas!
The green-clad Eco Ninjas have been ‘secretly’ appearing at school to encourage
students to recycle bottles, paper and other materials. So far they’ve been
incredibly successful and money raised from recycling has helped provide new
green areas all around the school. The money is also helping fund other
projects, such as creating new bird tables and replacing fences with
eco-friendly hedges in the school grounds.
Special recycling bins have been provided around school, all clearly marked to
show what should go inside them, and students are often reminded about the
importance of caring for their environment.
Garden has already taken part in a Keep Britain Tidy campaign that promotes
environmental awareness in schools and last year was awarded a Bronze Eco
Schools’ certificate. This year it will be aiming for Silver. Several students,
known as Eco Warriors, have been helping with this and encouraging others to
recycle whenever possible.

use their great powers to destroy their enemies and protect the world.
Warunya Thongrod
Young fans of Japanese television characters cheered on their favorite
superheroes as Ultraman battled space aliens and other figures at Central Center
in North Pattaya.
Staged for the second year by VCentral Pattaya Co. and Dream Express Co.,
Thailand’s only licensee for Ultraman products, the Sept. 7 show delighted
children who watched as the characters staged battles pitting Ultramen Dyna,
Zero and against Golza and Sarabu, aliens hoping to take over the world. The
kids got to meet their icons after each of the three shows.
Kids took pictures with their heroes and, of course, were given a chance to fill
their shopping baskets with DVDs, clothes, bags, shoes, pajamas, stationary and
dolls as well as play games at the Ultraman arcade to try and win prizes.
