FTI estimates 2014 domestic car sales to reach over 1mn
The Federation of Thai Industries’ Automotive Industry Club estimated
that the overall domestic car sales this year will reach over one
million units.
Overall car sales volume throughout 2014 is expected to stand at more
than one million units with each month seeing a sales volume of
100,000-120,000 units/month.
Club spokesman Surapong Paisitpatanapong said domestic car sales last
month grew more and reached over 110,000 units after the volume had
reached less than 100,000 units for several months.
Concerning the January 13 Bangkok shutdown, he commented that if the
protest lasts for only a short period of time, it will not affect
overall car sales, for most car orders and deliveries were placed and
done in December last year. He said that car showrooms in suburban areas
will not be impacted much by the protest as they are not in Bangkok.
According to the spokesman, the domestic market’s situation has returned
to normal, where promotions and innovation attract customers, after the
government’s first-car buyer scheme ended. However, this year’s export
ratio of the overall vehicle production is forecast to grow and reach
52-54 percent.
Throughout the year, it was estimated that Thailand’s vehicle production
would reach 2.5 million units.
Surapong noted that statistics are being collected for December’s car
production volume. If volume reaches 202,000 units, overall car
production in 2013 will reach 2.5 million units. The current figure has
so far has reached 2.29 million units. (MCOT)

Pattaya-area tourists and residents can experience the thrills of the
television show “Wipeout” at the new Splashdown Waterpark.
Located on Highway 36 near the Bira International race track in Pong,
the “adult water park” offers nine attractions including the tallest
inflatable waterslide in the world and the show’s signature “big red
balls.”
Wipeout is a game show billed as the “world’s largest obstacle course”
begun in the United States in 2008 that has seen 39 spin-offs in
countries around the world.
Spread over eight rai, the park was eight months in the making and also
offers a restaurant, bar and gift shop. It is owned by Briton John Wrey
and Yosita Phuangjampee.
Staff members take on the “Wall Racers”.
Besides the balls, the large inflatable spheres over which people must
traverse without bouncing into the water below, the park includes the
Wall Racer, Big Blue, Blob, Slip and Slide, Zorb Mountain and the Square
Runner.
Most attractions are meant for adults, or “big kids” as park promotional
materials call them. Zorb Mountain, however, is aimed at kids, with its
shallow splash pool and dry areas.
Life jackets, helmets and rubber shoes are supplied for all park guests
and lifeguards are plentiful.
Splashdown Waterpark is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are 500 baht
each and kids under 10 enter free.

The “Square Runner” is certainly a challenge.
The “Super Slider” is billed as the world’s
tallest inflatable waterslide.
“Big Blue” is guaranteed to get your heart

end of the “Big Red Balls”.
The park also has a restaurant, bar and gift
shop.
