Area beaches are once again full, in part due to many
people escaping the “shutdown” in Bangkok. With Bangkok under siege from
anti-government protestors, Pattaya is seeing a tourist resurgence, as Thais and
foreigners flee the capital for the Eastern Seaboard.
A Chonburi 12-year-old who threw himself in front of a car to shield his
younger sister was rewarded by the Chonburi Red Cross with a 5,000 baht
scholarship.
Just 30 years of age, Bernard Lamprecht is the CEO and
Financial Director of the Bakri Cono shipyard. This
young South African who now runs the Bakri Cono yard
founded in 2004 by his enterprising father, Corrie, is a
man who brings innovative thinking to every aspect of
his work at the yard which he describes as, “Not the
cheapest, but well known in South East Asia, as the

On Saturday 11th January the U18 Rugby Squad of
Regents International School Pattaya travelled
to Bangkok to compete in the International
Schools Rugby Sevens Festival hosted by Lycee
Francais International Bangkok. The squad train
on a weekly basis throughout the school year but
find competitive games hard to come by due to
the lack of suitable opposition on the Eastern
Seaboard, so it was somewhat surprising to
witness how well they fared against the cream of
Bangkok’s rugby playing schools.
There was no
change in the
standings this
week but second
place Canada
gained several
points on first
place Tea Party
after winning
three points
from them. Sue
Murphy bowled a
553 series for
Canada and Nok
Ostbo had a 510
for Tea Party.
This month the original American Beatles-albums
were released on CD in perfect miniature
replicas of the original cardboard sleeves. You
can either buy the 13 titles individually or in
a cool boxed set “The Beatles: The US Albums”. A
nice treat, but as they mostly use the 2009
British remasters, these CDs do not tell the
whole story. The original vinyl releases sported
mixes that were unique (and sometimes awful) and
not to be found anywhere else in the world. Continued
