Songkran: just a thought

Editor,
Just a thought about Songkran. This beautiful Thai ceremony has been reduced to idiocy, as celebrated by idiots on the streets, with their mindless “water fights” - particularly in Pattaya.
A brilliant documentary aired by HBO on Friday, 11 April, entitled “A Thirsty World” issued a clear warning: one BILLION people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water and, an even more ominous statistic states that 4,000 children per day, die, due to lack of clean water and its related implications.
Yet, the mindless rhinestone cowboys will squander thousands - or, perhaps, millions - of litres of water over the next few days, “to have fun...”
Just a thought.

People should care

Editor;
Re: Rubbish (PM Mailbag Friday, 28 March 2014) - I agree with you Matt, the road leading down to the beach from second road across the road from the New Atlantis is just a disgrace. It was two years ago a beautiful road to walk down, trees and flowers. Why has it got in such a disgraceful state, tourists do not want to see or have to walk through such a sight. Thailand is a beautiful place but oh my goodness the rubbish is just disgraceful.
People should care. No one will want to come to this beautiful country if they have to walk through rubbish to get to the beach, and sit among the rubbish on the beach. Come on, someone clean the rubbish up for goodness sake.

First big complaint was by a Thai

Editor;
Re: Pattaya official defends swim buoys (PM Friday, 11 April 2014) - It seems strange then the only fatality was a Thai and the first big complaint was by a Thai lady whose children jumped off and hurt themselves. I haven’t heard of any foreigners complaining or getting hurt.

Being stabbed is not as dangerous as being shot

Editor;
Re: Been called out (PM Mailbag Friday, 11 April 2014) - Mr. Arnone challenged me to say where people were being forced to endure his smoke, then promptly named 2 places himself. Bars, for one. If I want to have a quick beer in the evening before I head home, I should not have to be forced to breathe his smoke. Siam Paragon. Mr. Arnone said people were avoiding him to avoid his smoke. Why should they have to take an action to avoid his behavior?
He also points out that second hand smoke is not as dangerous as other pollutants. He thus implies that we shouldn’t be concerned about it. But that’s kind of like saying that being stabbed is not as dangerous as being shot so we shouldn’t be concerned about people with knives.
Sorry, sir, but that makes no sense. I’ll reiterate my position, which you did not address. You have no right to force anyone to smoke against their will. Any time. Any where. Any amount. And that includes in bars and outside shopping malls.

She got her message across perfectly

Editor;
Re: If I ever have a baby (PM Mailbag Friday, 11 April 2014) - I think she got her message across perfectly. Would any smoker take her up on the offer? I seriously doubt it.
I have also noted that all smokers hold their cigarette away from their own faces in between puffs. I think that shows they don’t like 2nd hand smoke either, even when they themselves are the source.
