Private benefactors donated more than 40 million baht to Banglamung
Hospital to help it build another inpatient wing.
Vibun Thammakit, the former abbot of Chonglom Temple, presented 41.3
million baht to Visit Tangnapakorn, the ombudsman for the Ministry of
Public Health, following a “Thod Pha Pa” merit-making ceremony April 26.
Vibun also presided over the religious ceremony and chanting by nine
monks. The Thod Pha Pa is held at the start of rainy season and features
an offering of robes and necessities to monks.
Former Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplome and Sucharit Patchimnan, former
permanent secretary for the Ministry of Interior, joined Banglamung
District Chief Sakchai Taengho at the event, which would expand the
24-rai hospital to 29 rai. The additional land behind the hospital will
house the new inpatient center which treats 700,000 patients a year.
The 41 million baht was raised through private donations, the largest of
which - 10 million baht each - were donated by Chao Jiramongkol and
Siajai Phachuenchaikit.
Banglamung Hospital was founded as a second-level sanitation center in
1938 at the Old Naklua Market. As Banglamung grew, the number of
patients increased and it was promoted to first-level sanitation center
in 1967.
