Regents Primary students cheer
for a team photo during the FOBISIA in Malaysia.
An excited team of Primary students from Regents
International School Pattaya flew over 1000km to the ELC International
School in Malaysia earlier this month to take part in the 2015 Primary
FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) games.
Thirty-six Regents’ students joined children from six other schools from
across Asia to compete in four main sporting competitions: swimming,
athletics, football and T-ball.
After four days of fun competition and great camaraderie the sporting event
ended on a high for Regents, with the students bringing home well over 50
medals.
Head of PE, Paul Madden commented: “Once again we have had the opportunity
to represent the school at the Primary FOBISIA Games in Malaysia. It was a
busy four days that left our students absolutely drained. During the
competition, they have the opportunity to meet students from different
schools and make ‘FOBISIA friends’, who they often stay in touch with for
years to come.

Stuvik retakes F3 lead after double victory in Spain
![](pictures/s31Stuvik91-1.jpg)
Thailand’s Sandy Stuvik (center) is flanked on
the podium by teammate Artur Janosz (left) and Yarin Stern (right).
Aspiring Thai racer Sandy Stuvik won both of the races at the third round of
the EuroFormula Open Championship at Jerez Circuit in Spain last weekend.
The young Thai driver clinched pole position for the first race, in front of
Polish championship leader and teammate Artur Janosz, and during the race
Stuvik would prove to be untouchable as he gradually pulled away from the
pursuing Formula 3 cars. In the end he took the checkered flag well ahead of
Janosz in second and Israel’s Yarin Stern in third.
![](pictures/s31Stuvik91-2.jpg)
Stuvik steers his RP Motorsport F3 car to
victory at the Jerez Circuit in Spain, Sunday, June 22.
Sunday morning qualifying for the second race saw Janosz secure pole
position after he put in a blistering lap. Spain’s Alex Palou took second
place and Stuvik had to settle for P3.
As the race started Janosz cut across the front of Palou in a move that
would later earn him a drive through penalty. Stuvik in turn overtook the
Spanish driver through turn 3 and 4 and after Janosz had served his drive
through, the Thai driver would find himself with a solid lead. Stuvik
controlled his pace to finish over 6 seconds clear of second placed Alex
Palou. Again it was Israel’s Yarin Stern who secured the third place on the
podium.
Stuvik commented after the race: “This was a tough race and weekend and I am
excited to now take the lead of the championship back again. I have to thank
Team RP Motorsport for giving me such a fantastic Formula 3 car and for
being able to build the car so well around my driving style. I do realize
that my competitors are coming ever closer and I will take my training to
the next level to do my best to stay ahead as we go to Hungary in two week
time.”
The results leave Sandy Stuvik firmly in the lead of the championship with
124 points, to Janosz’ 93 points and Palou with 87 points as the series now
moves to the Hungaroring Circuit in Hungary for the 4th round on 4-6 July.

Brass Monkey edged out
in Cup semi-final
Bangkok Casuals Football League
Paul Frain
Pattaya based Brass Monkey FC, having narrowly lost out in the
division 2 championship race earlier this month, traveled to Bangkok last
weekend to play The Londoner in the semi-final of the League Cup.
The Londoner, who were lying in second place in the first division, posed a
hard test for Brass but it was the Pattaya team who took the initiative in
the game and they put The Londoner defense under a lot of pressure, forcing
a succession of corners but they were unable to take advantage of their
early superiority. The Brass players’ profligacy in front of goal was
highlighted when Vorontzov was put clean through on goal twice and with just
the Londoner keeper to beat, he skewed his shot wide on both occasions.
Having enjoyed this early reprieve, The Londoner started putting their game
together and they took the lead when their forward out jumped a static Brass
defense from a corner kick to head the ball home.
The Londoner almost doubled their lead soon after but Brass keeper Yongui
pulled off a fine one-handed save to keep the score at 1-0. The same player
was left powerless a few minutes later however when The Londoner forward
latched onto a good cross and powered in a header to make it 2-0 to the home
team.
Despite the double setback, Brass continued to take the game to the Londoner
and they were rewarded when the ball was worked down the left and a
blistering shot by Ndjana left the home keeper clutching fresh air to make
it 2-1, which was the score at half time.
After the interval Brass continued to pressure the Londoner’s defense and
after a slow build up Dipita put the finishing touch to a good move by
slotting the ball home to make it 2-2.
A massive thunderstorm broke overhead and both defenses had to exercise
caution as the surface became slippery and was ideal for counter-attacking
moves. Brass almost took the lead for the first time in the match when
Matveen’s header smacked against The Londoner crossbar, but the home team
then broke away and a hopeful shot saw the Brass keeper agonizingly let the
ball slip through his hands and roll into an empty net for the Londoner to
take the lead 3-2.
A fracas in the Brass penalty area soon after involving both sets of players
saw Brass reduced to nine men and The Londoner down top ten for the final
period of the game. When play was restarted The Londoner earned a penalty
which was well saved by Phansak, the stand in keeper for Brass who also
brought off another couple of fine saves soon after.
A man down, it was still the Brass Monkey who attacked The Londoner’s goal
but time ran out for the Pattaya team, with the referee’s final whistle
bringing an end to a hugely entertaining match.
Brass gave their all and played some of their best football of the season
and to reach this stage was a great achievement for a newly formed club.
Manager Rick Bryant has now reached another milestone by taking two
different clubs up to the top division.

Chatwin takes Coco Lawn Bowls Club singles title
![](pictures/s28Lawn91.jpg)
Yung, Go, Darren, the Pink
Lady sponsor Kow and Num.
The Coco Club, located near Phoenix Golf Club, held its
first singles title campaign recently with 28 competitors taking part in 90
matches on the weekend of 21st and 22nd June. Those competing came from
Australia, England, Thailand, and Holland and with 22,000 baht at stake it
was all to play for.
The four league system, where everyone had 6 matches, produced only one
player with maximum points - Yung from RBSC Bangkok - closely followed by
Num, Go, Darren, Bus and Coco’s own Sue, who were all unbeaten in five
games. So it came down to the semi finals with Go winning against Num 9–7
and Darren Chatwin prevailing against Yung 13-5.
The 3rd and 4th place play-off was decided to be a share so everyone could
watch the final where Darren from Caldwell in Derbyshire - with what
appeared to be no nerves at all - held on to take it 11-1, with the last two
ends conceded as Go could not catch up. Well played to all who took part and
especially our new champion, Darren.
Coco Club is always looking for new players with free coaching and tuition.

Sproxton slaughters the field

Steve Ellison
Monday, June 16, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford
1st Thierry Danzas (23) 43pts
2nd Nate Welchert (14) 39pts
3rd Henry O’Brien (20) 36pts
It was another trip out to Green Valley and we were bracing ourselves for a
hot and muggy round of golf. The course was once again in great condition,
but the weather was stifling and it was a lot of work out there today. We
had a good low season turnout of 20 golfers and everyone showed up on time.
Our mon amis Thierry Danzas was in fine form today and beat the weather to
claim top spot on the podium. With fellow Frenchman Serge Straeten winning
here last week, mon dieu, the ‘Gaul’ of them to take it 2 weeks in a row!
Thierry is used to the heat of the kitchen so it must have benefitted him
today. You know what they say, if you can’t stand the heat, stay off the
golf course.
The recently retired Nate Welchert continues his steady form with another
round of shooting his handicap or better, and our old mate Henry O’Brien
shot to his handicap for sole third place.
Wednesday, June 18, Kabinburi (white tees) – Stableford
1st Brad Sproxton (15) 42pts
2nd John McHugh (13) 38pts
3rd Nate Welchert (14) 36pts
Thursday, June 19, Kabinburi (white tees) – Stableford
1st Brad Sproxton (15) 41pts
2nd John McHugh (13) 39pts
3rd Phil Smedley (9) 36pts
Sproxtonburi is the new name for our golfing destination as Brad completely
dominated this June road trip! TGC partner John McHugh is back in town and
tried as best he could to give Sproxton a run for his money but to no avail.
The blood/alcohol level was another contest altogether but once again, Brad
got the balance just right with the Bradcardi’s flowing at just the right
pace. Nate Welchert had his second podium placing of the week and came good
on round one to grab third place.
After golf and a short rest, it was off to meet at poolside for the wine &
cheese party we all look forward to. After a few litres of the red and some
beautiful selections of the fromage, we were all feeling little, if any,
pain from the tough old slog a few hours before. We once again stayed at the
fantastic Kantary Hotel which was also enjoyed by a record 9 ladies who
joined the golfers for this fun event. We always welcome wives and
girlfriends for our golfing getaways.
Capt. Phil Smedley did extremely well and posted a 36 for day 2 on a track
with very tough conditions. Let’s also give Phil our belated birthday wishes
as yet another year has passed by already!
We had a bit of rain on both days, so the grounds-keeping crew had to
interrupt cutting the fairways halfway through, which made for a tough old
day at the office. The rough was also wet and wild and it was one of the
more challenging rounds we had faced this year. Your only chance of scoring
was to keep the ball in the fairway and then on to those huge greens that
Kabinburi is known for.
Once again, great shooting to Brad and Johnny, ya done good boys!

Watson makes triumphant return
PSC golf from Tropical Bert’s
![](pictures/s25-Bert91.jpg)
Daryl Evans, Bob Watson and
Tom Cotton.
Dick Warberg
Tuesday, June 17, Green Valley – Stableford
A smaller than usual group met for breakfast at Bert’s on Tuesday
in preparation for the competition at Green Valley. The weather forecast
called for rain, and thick clouds overhead made many wonder if we were
wasting a morning drive. As four groups gathered on the tee anxious eyes
looked up, but lo and behold not only was there no rain, but much of the sky
cleared, and umbrellas came out not to keep dry but to keep cool.
The conditions at Green Valley were good, and surprisingly there was no
backup on the first tee as has been the case lately. With the issue of
weather put aside we could concentrate on playing golf, and play golf many
people did! Clubhouse chatter after the round indicated many good scores
were had, but who would win?
Back at Bert’s everyone eagerly gathered for the results - everyone except
one hapless group who had neither experience or a GPS, and took the little
known route of driving from Green Valley to Pattaya via Rayong. Finally
arriving back at Bert’s, they found the other golfers on their second game
of chess, just finishing War and Peace, or surrounded by empty bottles. Oh
well, it happens sometimes.
When the results were announced two facts became obvious – you had to shoot
your handicap to be even considered for a mention, and Bob Watson is back in
town! Not only is Bob back but he is better than ever. They say Tiger Woods
not only wants to win but destroy and demoralize his opponents, and Bob sure
did that with a fantastic 43 points off a handicap of 7. All we can say is
hats off and congrats to Bob!
Tom Cotton’s (22) 38 points was good for second place (still 5 shots back),
Daryl Evans (22) nabbed third with 37 points, then we had four players tied
with 36 points and when all was done Barry Elphick (23) won the count back.
Where are all these good golfers coming from?
Near pins went to Mashi Kaneta, John Anderson, Bob Watson, Ted Morris.

Barrie’s back with a bang
PSC golf from the Billabong Golf Bar
![](pictures/s24-Billa91.jpg)
Owen Walkley & George Barrie.
Monday, June 16, Silky Oak - Stableford
Silky Oak was our venue today and the course was in great shape, with super
greens and no bad lies anywhere on the fairways.
Our first group caught up to a four-ball of Japanese players who graciously
called them through after about 5 holes, and because Mal Farquharson is still
suffering from a broken paw and didn’t get to finish every hole that group were
in the showers in 3 hours.
We played from the shorter white tees today to make some of the long water
carries a bit easier, but that didn’t seem to help as only two players beat
their handicap. Coming in third today was Phil Waite with 34 points while second
went to Owen Walkley with 39. But taking the top spot was George Barrie with a
fantastic 40 points. There were two 2s coming from Brian Maddox and George
Barrie.
Wednesday, June 18, Green Valley - Stableford
Under threatening skies we teed off on the left side of the water, a
tee I might add the Billabong has never started from before here at Green
Valley. With nine groups we got away early and were all on the course by 10 a.m.
Even with all the recent rain the course was in great shape, with the greens as
fast as usual.
George Barrie couldn’t quite make it into the prizes today as his mere 34 points
didn’t even get a mention is dispatches. We had three groups of girls playing
and one little lady gave us all a lesson in golf. Boribun (Oh) Bangbon was the
winner with a great round of 40 points, just edging out Bill Marsden on count
back. Brian Orr took third spot a point further back and John Anderson and John
Player had a private battle for fourth and fifth on 38 points, with the former
prevailing on count back.
There were three ‘2’s coming from Bob Finley, J.B. Russell and Bob Philp.

Evans & Henderson
take the plaudits
PSC golf from Café Kronborg
Thursday, June 19, Khao Khew A & B –
Stableford
A Flight (0-18)
1st Anna Henderson (12) 35pts
2nd John Swanson (18) 33pts
3rd Ian Henderson (17) 30pts
B Flight (19+)
1st Daryl Evans (22) 37pts
2nd Graham Buckingham (22) 37pts
3rd Tom Cotton (23) 35pts
Khao Kheow was the test today and we teed off on B1 some 30 minutes early under
sunny skies and in hot and humid conditions.
The course was in fairly good shape with slowish greens even though 9.5 on the
stimp-meter was advertised. The round took about 4 hours and 30 minutes, with a
Thai 5-ball in front slowing us down a bit.
Back in the clubhouse welcomes went out to Ian and Anna Henderson along with Tom
Cotton while we also had to bid farewell to Marie and Lionel Rowles.
We had enough for two flights today with the cut set at handicap 18. The lowest
handicap player in the field, Anna Henderson, took top spot in A Flight with 35
points, two ahead of John Swanson in second while Ian Henderson completed the
podium in third.
Daryl Evans edged the B Flight honours on count back over Graham Buckingham,
both with 37 points, and tom cotton took third with 35.

Sunday swingers hit ‘Roaring Forties’
PSC golf from Lewiinski’s Golf Society
Nick Odnoral & Terry Mangan.
Sunday 15th June Green Valley
A Flight
1st Nick Odnoral (15) 46pts
2nd Dave Stockman (6) 40pts
3rd Bob Watson (7) 39pts
B Flight
1st Terry Mangan (16) 44pts
2nd Pierre Bietry (17) 43pts
3rd Peter Henshaw (16) 40pts
Near Pins: No 5 Nick Odnoral, No 8 Lawrie McBride, No 12 Ed Wyckoff, N0 16
Phil Davies
I have said it before - every golf day in every bar in Pattaya is filled
with stories of hard luck and “what ifs”. That is as much of the game as
playing. But in terms of bad luck it would be tough not to offer some
consolation to some of the B Flight players on Sunday. It is well known that
the Green Valley course can be made quite short if the tees are up and they
were this day. However, none of that fully explained the performances of the
golfers in B Flight.
You can imagine the looks of confidence that Terry ‘pork chop’ Mangan,
Pierre ‘the Magician’ Bietry and Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw were
portraying as they strode off the 18th hole with 44, 43 and 40 points
respectively. That was until they found out that Nick ‘Ned Kelly’ Odnoral
had carded a unbelievable 46 points for the man of the match and top step on
the A Flight podium.
It is no secret that Nick’s dedication to the driving range is now paying
off and he was six clear of Dave Stockman in second, who found himself in a
Aussie sandwich as Bob Watson’s steady play gave him the bronze with 39
points.
Terry Mangan, with his marvelous 44 points, took the gold in B Flight while
Pierre Bietry found himself in a Irish sandwich as Peter Henshaw’s rock
solid 40 points closed the flight and a share of the 2’s pot. Colin Davis
and Freddy Starbeck also slotted home 2’s.
Tuesday, June 17, Greenwood – Stableford
A Flight
1st Jacob Olsen (8) 39pts
2nd Freddy Starbeck (12) 34pts
B Flight
1st Terry Mangan (16) 36pts
2nd Jorn Finnerup (22) 35pts
The man of the match today was Jacob Olsen whose A Flight39pts was five
clear of Freddy ‘the quite one’ Starbeck. Jacob was also the only player to
better his handicap on the day.
Terry ‘pork chop’ Mangan made it two B Flight wins on the bounce as he edged
Jorn Finnerup by a stroke with an even par round.
No 2’s were recorded so a rollover to Wednesday.
Wednesday, June 18, Burapha A & B - Stableford
A Flight
1st Jacob Olsen (8) 37pts
2nd Rod Brown (15) 37pts
B Flight
1st Walter Baechli (17) 36pts
2nd Martin Allard (23) 36pts
Both flights were left to the perils of count back today and the man riding
a purple patch, Jacob Olsen, made it two wins in as many games as his 37
points counted up better on the inward nine.
Walter ‘the man of leisure’ Baechli, always a welcome addition to the
society ranks, made off once again with the biggest bag of loot in B Flight
as he edged Martin Allard, both with steady even par rounds.
Monsieur Serge Straeton pocketed the rollover 2’s pot and a missing person’s
alert was issued shortly after the presentation.
Friday, June 20,
Silky Oak - Stableford
1st Aiden Murray (20) 41pts
2nd Tom Gorey (15) 39 pts
3rd Mike Jeffreys (18) 39 pts
With a large group of regulars opting to play the PSC monthly medal, the pay
window was left unprotected on Friday. Sensing an opportunity, and not
unlike a hyena stalking a lion’s prey, Aiden Murray nipped in and took the
biggest bag of loot on offer. His man of the match 41 points was three clear
of a trio of players on 39 points, of which Irelands’ Tom Gorey emerged top
of the heap to grab the silver, leaving Mike ‘the Welsh wizard’ Jeffreys to
close the flight.
Ireland’s Christy ‘midnight cowboy’ Knight rode back to the darkside pot
less.
Mike Jefferys was the sole heir to the 2’s pot.
Note: Lewiinski’s is situated on Pattaya land Soi 1, Beach Rd
Soi13/13 near Walking Street. Anyone wishing to play with us just pop in and
add your name to the list or call Colin on 089 826 0764. Transport is

Allidi scoops low gross as PSC golf sees change at the top
PSC 133rd Monthly Golf Tournament
![](pictures/s21-PSC91-1.jpg)
Mike Allidi – Low gross winner.
Report: Nigel Cannon/ Photos: William
Macey
Following the previous week’s AGM, former Golf Chairman Joe Mooneyham was
elected Vice President of the PSC and Mark West took over as Golf Chairman, so
today’s tournament on Friday June 20 was the swan-song for Joe and an
introduction for Mark.
Jeff
Wylie – ‘A’ Flight winner.
It being the low season, the numbers signed up was less than normal but those
who took the opportunity to play here at Pleasant Valley had an enjoyable day,
with the weather not too hot and the course in good shape. Despite the
infiltration of a couple of 5-balls, all rounds were completed in around 4
hours.
On the reception desk was Joe, Mark and Nigel and many took the opportunity of
meeting Mark and wishing him well, acknowledging that Joe would be a hard act to
follow. Later Joe and Mark received the cards and clearly there had been some
good scores posted.
The low gross winner on the day was Mike Allidi (H/cap 3) with a great score of
72 gross. Jeff Wylie (6) topped the ‘A’ Flight with a net 74 and an unusual
situation occurred in ‘B’ Flight when 3 players all finished on 41 points; the
count back went to the last 3 holes with Wolfram Krueger (17) being declared the
winner.
![](pictures/s21-PSC91-3.jpg)
Wolfram Krueger –
‘B’ Flight winner.
‘C’ Flight produced the best stableford return of the day with Malcolm
Farquharson (26) coming in with 43 points.
We had just a few ladies playing today but with 41 points Rungratree Puangsal
(12) was the clear winner.
It was an early finish so many went home before going to The Player’s Lounge
where the day’s presentation and buffet was held. Most of the players came for
the presentation, with many bringing their partners and families to enjoy the
excellent food provided as well as the excellent drink service.
Nigel then called order and introduced Joe Mooneyham and Mark West, with Joe
expressing his appreciation for the support the PSC members had given him over
the last 4 years and he said he was sure Mark would enjoy the same support. He
also thanked the PSC office staff, namely William, Noy, and Nigel for their help
during his term of office. Thanks also went to the management and staff of the
Players’ Lounge for their hospitality.
Malcolm
Farquharson – ‘C’ Flight winner.
Mark then took over and said he looked forward to the role he would be playing
as Golf Chairman and announced he had already appointed a golf committee to
assist in his task. He paid tribute to Joe and wished him well in his new role
of Vice President.
Nigel then announced the winners and Joe presented the prizes. The lucky draw
followed and then the 50/50 draw which was won by a delighted Bryan Neal. Many
stayed on to enjoy the banter with fellow members and guests well into the
evening.
The next PSC monthly golf tournament is scheduled for Friday, July 25, at
Pattana Golf Course, with the buffet and presentation being held at Shenanigans
in Jomtien.

Same old... same old
The Pattaya Golf Society at the Elephant Bar, Soi Buakhao
![](pictures/s20-PGS91.jpg)
Friday hero, Alan Walker.
On Wednesday, 18th June the Pattaya Golf Society visited
Mountain Shadow to play a stableford competition from the blue tees on a day
which saw very little other action at the course. The course presentation
was reasonably good, bunkers were a little scruffy but the greens were true
and millionaires’ golf lay ahead of the group which teed off way before
time. A strong breeze was evident all day but the day remained dry.
In a share of third place was the old Aussie warhorse Alan Walker, freshly
returned from a break back home and a very solid 33 points gave him a good
score on his return to action. On the same score was Tomas Nilsson and the
“deja vue” feeling continued as the winner was Brian Beaupre, all
consistency as well as skill, and his gross 78 represented a points score of
35 for the win.
Peter Sanderson took the consolation beer and John Tallett suffered a “mare”
and received the Booby Bevy. But for the winners it was a case of “same
old... same old” as Beaupre and Nilsson swept all before them again. Until
the next time maybe?
Walker runs away with it
The Pattaya Golf Society ended the week in style on Friday with a
visit to the ever-impressive Pattavia to play a stableford competition on a
course which gets better by the month and represents excellent value for
money. The course was in excellent condition and if any comment could be
made, the greens were hard and difficult to play, but this is the nature of
the course.
Wayne Morrison, recently returned from Oz, sponsored four near pins and
these were won by Jesper Hansen (4), Alan Flynn (7), David Thomas (13) and
Paul Whitnall (17). In addition David Thomas managed the only ‘2’ of the
day.
For the places proper, Tomas Nilsson continued to impress with a third
placed finish on 35 points and Alan Flynn threw off a few feckless rounds to
take second place with an excellent 38 point return. The oldest golfer in
the field, Alan Walker, played the best round of his life in Thailand to
record 42 points on a course playing long and he amazed his peers with some
clinical golf.
The consolation beer went to Peter Sanderson and the Booby Bevy went to
Wayne Morrison for nightmare on his return. But even Wayne agreed he had
enjoyed a day at a fine course and he is seeking revenge soon!

Bruce dances to the top
IPGC golf from The Haven
![](pictures/s19-SC91.jpg)
Bruce Hilde, Hal Hart and Jon Batty.
Monday, June 16, Bangpra -
Stableford
CSS 73
1st Jon Batty (10) 35pts
2nd John Wood (25) 33pts
3rd Trevor Schirmer (15) 29pts
4th Markku Tynell (23) 29pts
5th Hal Hart (22) 29pts
With regular overnight rain throughout the week, which had left the
courses in a fairly sodden condition affording little or no run, the
best of the week was a level handicap round from just one player from
the three outings.
Monday’s test was perhaps the most taxing although the weather had also
slowed the usually very fast greens down to an almost playable speed. In
the circumstances Jon Batty’s round was an excellent performance
although it was marred with three very ugly zeros on the front nine, but
a very good recovery that garnered 21 points on the inward half ensured
a well deserved win after the final reckoning at the scorer’s table.
John Wood, after starting out with 19 points on the front half, had been
hoping for something memorable to close out his two month stay in
Thailand but he had to settle for a second place and fond memories of
other occasions.
Four shots back Trevor Schirmer won a three-way count back for third
place with a better 11 on the back six, leaving Markku Tynell in fourth
with 10 after they had halved the nine on 15 apiece. Hal Hart took fifth
as he returned just 13 inward points after a bright start to the day.
There were no 2’s in either of the divisions.
Before the presentations were made there were welcome backs for Ben
Wilkinson and John Wood, the latter playing just this one competition
before returning to the UK, so he received a farewell also.
Wednesday, June 18, Khao Kheow A & B - Stableford
CSS 72
1st Hal Hart (22) 36pts
2nd Trevor Schirmer (15) 35pts
3rd Victor Moshonkin (13) 34pts
4th Kevin Blake (8) 31pts
5th Tom McCarthy (19) 20pts
Another outing at our regular Wednesday course Khao Kheow and this week
it was found to be still improving and getting very near to its old top
class condition. There were just a couple of greens still patchy which
made the going pretty tough although the CSS for day stayed at the
standard 72. With no carts being allowed on the fairways, the local rule
of ‘lift and place’ was in play.
Hal Hart’s form has started to return to its old self as was shown by
another steady round of level handicap, which proved to be the best
score of the week’s three outings. Once again Hal achieved a
five-pointer as he birdied the last hole on the B course after receiving
two strokes, it being the most difficult of the back nine, which enabled
him to close out the inward half with 19. It proved to be just
sufficient to deny playing partner Trevor Schirmer the win when he was
two points in front with just the last to play. In fact Hal secured nine
points from the last three holes even with a zero pointer on the
seventeenth.
Victor Moshonkin claimed third place another shot back after looking a
likely winner following an outward nineteen points but faded right at
the death, taking just two points from the last two holes.
Kevin Blake took fourth spot three more behind, with Tom McCarthy in
fifth after finding it not so quite plain sailing following a three shot
cut in handicap from the previous week’s outstanding round when he won
by a street.
Once again there were no 2’s in either of the divisions.
Prior to the prize giving there was a welcome back for Kevin Blake.
Friday, June 20, Eastern Star - Stableford
CSS 72
1st Bruce Hilde (17) 34pts
2nd Trevor Schirmer (15) 33pts
3rd Markku Tynell (23) 30pts
4th Russell Gilroy (14) 29pts
5th Terry Hodgkiss (23) 28pts
Eastern Star is long enough when it is playing normally but when the
wind blows and the fairways are wet then it gets even longer. Today,
with the greens playing extremely slow and long putts almost impossible
to get to the hole, it was quite surprising to find that the CSS stayed
at a level 72.
The full lakes were proof that there had been plenty of rain over the
last few days and ‘lift and place’ in the fairways was once again the
order of the day.
Bruce Hilde, having spent the previous evening and most of the night
dancing the ‘heavy’ fantastic and wowing the audiences down at the
Bamboo Bar, arrived late to sign-in, seemingly with little chance of
success, and after topping up with one or two snifters on the way round
the course any chance of a win looked an even less likely outcome. But
in spite of all the early signs to the contrary, as he gathered just
fifteen points on the outward nine, he ran out the winner by a single
point to deny Trevor Schirmer, one of his playing partners, for the
second time in the week. Trevor was outscored over the last three holes
by two points, having to watch at close quarters also being Bruce’s
marker, and having to settle for second place once again.
Markku Tynell was again to be found among the podium places in third,
three points behind, after he had started slowly with only thirteen from
the first nine holes.
Russell Gilroy started even slower, with twelve from his opening nine,
to finish in fourth just ahead of Terry Hodgkiss, who in comparison was
reversing over the same nine holes with just ten points but the three of
them all came good over the last nine with seventeen each to bring some
cheer on the journey back to The Haven.
For a record third time in a week there were no 2’s in either division
leaving a couple of swollen pots to be claimed.
Note: If you would like to play with The Haven group, you can
contact mobile 094 567 5726 or call in to The Haven Hotel, at 185 Soi
13, between Beach Road and 2nd Road. All transportation to the course is
arranged and you do not need to sign up prior to the day, but you should
be there by 8.15 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on the days that you
wish to play. A schedule of courses to be played can be found on our web
site at www.thehaven-hotel.com.

Yves comes to the fore
at Pattavia
PSC golf from Siam Country Resort
![](pictures/s18-SC91.jpg)
Yves Philibert.
Tuesday, June 17,
Pattavia Century - Stableford
Tuesday was a visit to Pattavia, where we played from the white tees at
about 6,600 yards. The course was in generally good condition although the
greens have been neutralised a bit, to make them a little more user
friendly. Personally I think this is a bit of a shame as the greens are
Pattavia’s key defense - they are on the small side and the pace, combined
with the slopes, is what provides the major challenge.
Yves Philibert (H/cap 33) was best able to come to terms with the challenges
of the day with a fine 38 points, helped in part by a spectacular birdie 2
on the par-three 17th which netted him a 5-pointer. Jeff Wylie (6) was the
best of the rest with 35 points, to go with his 2 near pins. As mentioned
before, Yves got one of the other near pins, while Neil knocked the flag out
on 13 to make a nice birdie also.
Thursday, June 19,
Pleasant Valley - Stableford
Pleasant Valley was our Thursday venue, from the blues at about
6300 yards, with the course in just fair condition as it was a little damp
following some heavy overnight rain. Having said that, my group only
required 1 or 2 casual water drops for the round, most of the damper spots
being before the fairways started.
The best score of the day was 34 points from Jeff Wylie (6), ahead of Martin
Hayes (15) with 32. Near pins went to Neil, Paddy & Jeff.
Friday was the PSC tournament which SCR supports every month, with Pleasant
Valley again being the venue. A flight were off the blue tees and it was
Jeff Wylie who led the way with an unspectacular 80, net 74 while in the B
flight from the whites, Willem Lasonder (18) was 1 of 3 players to sign for
41 points, eventually getting second spot after losing on the last 3 in the
count back process. I must shout out a congrats to all winners on the day,
but a special mention to Mike Allidi who won the Low Gross with 72, an
outstanding score compared to the rest.
Note: Siam Country Resort, Restaurant & Bar is located just off Siam
Country Club Rd, after going under the arch past the 7/11, turn right after
50 metres, with the venue on the left another 200 metres along. Golf from
here is generally played on Tuesday & Thursday, with the Resort hosting
prompt presentations on both days. As a PSC affiliated venue we welcome ALL
golfers, including ladies & seniors (>60s) who have opted for the “Silver”
tee option. Call 089 094 1841 for scheduling or enquiries. Hope to see you
there, cheers & good golfing!

Ken Hole blitzes Bangpakong
PSC golf from The Growling Swan

Rocky Lawson, Peter McDonald & Ken Hole.
Peter Blackburn
Monday, June 16, Pattana – Stableford
Overcast skies and drizzling rain greeted us as we
arrived at The Growling Swan in readiness for our departure to the
classy Pattana Golf Course and we had an excellent field of 26 on
the starting sheet. Everyone was on time so our 2 mini vans left the
GS right on schedule at 8.30 am and we headed off up number 7 and
then the busy 331, arriving at the golf course 52 minutes later.
The course was not really busy so after a swifter than normal
check-in we were told that we would be playing the B & C nines in
that sequence and the groans could be heard as we assembled at B1
and viewed the water left and right and in front of the green.
![](pictures/s17-GS91-2.jpg)
Patrick Poussier, Adrian Schmidt & Bill
Steinman.
Our first group, a four-ball teed off 35 minutes ahead of schedule
at 9.55 am and as we walked down the first fairway the rain came but
thankfully only lasted about 10 minutes and there was no
interruption to play. There was a fair bit of wind around which was
making things a bit tricky but I have to say this terrific golf
course was in magnificent condition with lush fairways and perfectly
manicured greens.
Our pace was quite steady and initially we had no-one in front of us
but we did catch up to the groups in front on the second nine which
slowed us down somewhat and our full round was completed in four
hours & twenty five minutes. It had been another enjoyable round of
golf with very good company.
The outstanding score of the day was carded by “Big” Bill Steinman
who had 39 points and was easily the winner in Division A, with Gerd
Reidler coming second on 35 points. A count back was required as
there were 3 golfers on 34 points which resulted in third place
being awarded to Phil Taylor (21 point back nine) with your writer,
Peter “Blacky” Blackburn (19 point back nine) finishing in fourth
spot and Walter Baechli (16 point back nine) just missing out.
Division B was won by Patrick Poussier who had a fine 37 points,
with Nolan “Notso” Wise finishing second on 36. Another count back
was needed as there were 2 players with 34 points and it was Dick
“Reverend” Braimbridge (21 point back nine) who finished third from
Frank “Woody” Donnelly (18 point back nine) in fourth place.
The Growling Swan NAGA Award for the worst score on the day was won
by Adrian Schmidt.
Division A (0-17)
1st Bill Steinman (9) 39pts
2nd Gerd Riedler (7) 35pts
3rd Phil Taylor (16) 34pts
4th Peter Blackburn (12) 34pts
Division B (18+)
1st Patrick Poussier (23) 37pts
2nd Nolan Wise (36) 36pts
3rd Dick Braimbridge (35) 34pts
4th Frank Donnelly (24) 34pts
Near Pins: B3 – Dennis Steele, B7 – Mike Gosden, C2 – Ebrahim, C7 –
Peter Bye
Long Putts: B9 – Rocky Lawson, C9 – Alain Taddei
Thursday, June 19, Bangpakong – Stableford
It was once more time for our “mini road trip” to
Bangpakong Riverside Country Club and we had 17 golfers on the
starting sheet who were keen and certainly not fazed by the extra
few minutes drive. Our journey took just over an hour and when we
arrived the course was reasonably busy with a few Bangkok golfers
having a hit.
Our first group, which was a four-ball, got away 5 minutes ahead of
schedule and with a Thai five-ball a couple of holes ahead of us we
proceeded at a steady pace. After recently receiving reports that
the course was “not good” I must say that these reports were
exaggerated although there were two temporary greens and the other
greens were in the late stages of being cored & sanded, which made
them slow but the rest of the course was in great shape and posed no
problems.
The weather was great as a nice breeze was present to cool things
down and at the start of the second nine we caught up to the group
ahead, which brought our good run to an end after a two hour front
nine. We took a good drinks break after the 11th green to let the
five-ball get away but soon caught up with them again and we
finished the round in four hours & twenty minutes after enjoying the
course and the good company.
There were 2 golfers on 38 points in A Division which meant a count
back was needed and the result was that Rocky Lawson (22 point back
nine) was declared the winner from Bob Akapita (20 point back nine)
in second spot and Alain “Inspector Clouseau” Taddei finished third
with 35 points.
There was an absolute bolter at the top of B Division with veteran
Ken Hole having the round of his life in scoring a massive 49 points
and of course was the winner. Sandy Leiper came second 12 shots
further back and third place went to Nolan Wise with 35 points.
The Growling Swan NAGA Award was won by the visiting Peter McDonald
(after commenting that he had not yet won anything on this trip) and
he accepted the award like the good sport that he is.
Division A (0-18)
1st Rocky Lawson (17) 38pts
2nd Bob Akapita (18) 38pts
3rd Alain Taddei (15) 35pts
Division B (19+)
1st Ken Hole (20) 49pts
2nd Sandy Leiper (34) 37pts
3rd Nolan Wise (36) 35pts
Near Pins: 4th – Geri Crilly, 13th – Bob Akapita
Long Putts: 9th – Alain Taddei, 18th – Ken Hole
Note: Growling Swan Golf welcomes golfers of any persuasion –
low & high handicappers alike, female golfers and beginners. We
generally play Mondays & Thursdays, meeting at The Growling Swan in
Soi Chaiyapoon at 8.00 am with transport departing at 8.30 am. For

Bless flies into first
Jomtien Golf with the IPGC
![](pictures/s15-1091-1.jpg)
Tony Bless and Paul Hartley.
Monday, June 16,
Pattana – Stableford
Upon arrival we were told the A course was now shut for two months of
green renovations so we were allocated the B and C nines.
The cut today was 5-21 in division 1, and playing off 7 Mika Viljakainen
shot 38 points to win the top flight ahead of Chris Voller in second
with 30.
In division 2 Roar Berger, playing off 30, came in with 37 points to
head the field and Peter Grant took second with 33.
Near pins went to Sid Ottaway and Roar Berger but nobody managed to
record a ‘2’.
Wednesday, June 18,
Treasure Hill - Stableford
This was our first visit here for quite some time and we
found the tee boxes to be in immaculate condition and the rest of the
course also measuring up well.
Frank
Kelly.
The best score of the day was returned from the Chinese Airlines captain
Tony Bless to win division 1 (0-19) with 37 points. Paul Hartley claimed
second spot on 30 and always in the reckoning Chris Voller was third
with 28.
Thirty five points was the winning score in division 2 for Rod Howett
while Pepo Frick rolled in second on 30 and in third place with 26 was
Bryan Priestley.
Rod Howett was the only near pin winner of the day and Tony Bless picked
up four rollovers in division 1 ‘2’s pot while Paul Hartley also
recorded a birdie on the 17th for the only winner in division 2.
We said bon voyage to David Taylor today, going back to the UK before
returning here in mid October.
Friday, June 20,
Eastern Star - Stableford
It was a very busy course here today with quite a few groups
in front of our regular allocated tee time and two societies also teeing
off just after us. We had six groups out today with the cut set at 10-17
and 18+.
Still in form, Tony Bless won Division 1 with 40 points ahead of Frank
Kelly in second four points behind and Eiichi Matsumoto beat Terry
Madsen 19/18 on the back nine for third as they both came in with 34
points each.
Bryan Priestley topped division 2 with 34 points and Andy Baber beat Ray
Gott on a 17/16 back-nine count back for second after they both came in
with 32 points.
Near pin prizes were won by Tony Bless (2), Arthur Hancock, Bryan Rought
and Frank Kelly.
There were no ‘2’s recorded so all to play for on June 27 in the 1-2-3
stableford event here.

Cooney conquers the Mountain
PSC golf Bunker Boys @ The Ranch
![](pictures/s14Bunker91.jpg)
Gerry Cooney (left) gets a
winner’s hug from the “Boss”.
Monday, June 16, Mt. Shadow -
Stableford
The weather looked distinctly unpromising as we headed up the 7
motorway, and when we reached the turnoff at Khaow Keow it appeared that
heavy rain was falling on the hills. There were still heavy clouds
around as teed off on schedule but the overcast skies and fresh breeze
meant the temperature was as cool as we’ve experienced recently.
There were other golfers a couple of holes ahead of our leading group,
but the pace of play was good and there were no hold-ups until we
reached the 16th green, and even then it was only a couple of minutes.
Gerry Cooney is something of a specialist here having won two previous
annual championships on this course, and once again he produced the best
score of the day carding 38 points. Gerry’s round included an impressive
eagle on the par five 11th hole where a driver and a three-wood left him
with a straightforward 8-foot putt – easy game!
Mashi Kaneta finished one point behind Gerry to take second place and
there was a four-way tie on 32 points with Tony Robbins once again
winning the count back to take third.
Not a single drop of rain fell throughout the round, so all in all it
was an excellent day’s golf on a challenging course which was in
generally in good condition apart from a couple of bunkers which hadn’t
seen a rake in months. Steve Durey had the misfortune to land in one of
those with his ball ending deep into a dog’s footprint, but the shot was
made even more daunting by the presence of a snake, which Mashi
eventually managed to encourage to move away!
Only three near pins were claimed, by Paul Corner, Sean Murphy and Steve
Durey.
It’s good to be able to report that the renovation work in the changing
rooms is nearly completed, so the after game shower was much more
pleasurable than before.
1st Gerry Cooney (13) 38pts
2nd Mashi Kaneta (14) 37pts
3rd Tony Robbins (13) 32pts
Wednesday, June 18, Burapha A & D – Stableford
Our last half dozen games have been played on courses which
were virtually empty, but it was no real surprise when we arrived at
Burapha to find the course was busy. The Sports Day rate attracts many
local golfers to play this championship course during the low season,
and the combined rate of 1,650 Baht (green fee, caddy, and compulsory
buggy) is a bargain, especially for those golfers who normally use a
buggy.
The C course is currently closed for renovations so we elected to play
the A and D courses, which present a tough challenge from the blue tees.
We teed off slightly before our scheduled time and the pace of play was
reasonable until we reached the par three 6th hole on the A course when
there were suddenly two groups waiting on the tee. Fortunately the back
nine was quieter and the round was completed in good time.
Once again the skies were overcast making the conditions relatively
cool, and although the greens aren’t currently in their normally
excellent condition, it was still a great day’s golf.
The scores on the day reflected the difficulty of the course, and it was
Geoff Parker who rediscovered some semblance of form after a recent
slump, taking the winner’s spot one point clear of a three-way way tie
on 31 points. Paul Corner won the count back (17 points on the back
nine), with Colin Greig taking third place ahead of the unlucky Barry
Murnin who had the misfortune to put his drive O.B. on the 18th hole,
putting him out of the prizes.
Only three near pins were claimed, by Sean Murphy (2) and Colin Greig.
1st Geoff Parker (14) 32pts
2nd Paul Corner (13) 31pts
3rd Colin Greig (7) 31pts
Friday, June 20, Eastern Star – Stableford
We had a better than expected turnout of golfers for our
visit to the Eastern Star course, which is not everyone’s favourite
since the greens are always problematic (slow) and any wayward shots are
often severely punished.
The game was made even more difficult today with the majority of
fairways having been treated with weed-killer, which has left large
areas of bare earth, producing some horrible lies and punishing what
would normally be good tee shots.
The weather was bright and sunny bringing the temperature back up after
our previous couple of rounds which had been played in much cooler
conditions.
The round progressed at a reasonable pace throughout, but once again the
numerous hazards and O.B.’s took their toll and only Sean Murphy managed
to play to his handicap to take first place, four points clear of Gerry
Cooney in second. Sean’s day was almost made complete when he narrowly
missed scoring ace on the par three 17th hole, but managed to miss the
birdie putt from less than two feet in what was clearly a case of
handicap protection!
The remaining scores were disappointing and the wooden spoon was closely
contested between two regular golfers who both had nightmare days (and
shall remain nameless to save their embarrassment) finishing on 15 and
16 points respectively!
For the third game in succession only three near pins were claimed, this
time by Sean Murphy, Geoff Parker and Paul Carey
1st Sean Murphy (16) 36pts
2nd Gerry Cooney (13) 32pts
3rd Geoff Parker (14) 29pts
Note: The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society who play
out of The Ranch bar on Pattaya 3rd Road (in front of the fire station,
and almost opposite the Buffalo Bar). We play on Mondays, Wednesdays,
and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but
competitive golf competition why not come and join us. We meet at The
Ranch at 9 a.m. and new players are always welcome.

Bramley bests the field at Navy
Travellers Rest Golf Group
![](pictures/s13-TR91-1.jpg)
Mod Chaviraksa, winner
at St Andrews, with her pet dog.
Andy Rich
June through to September is supposed to be the Low Season for
tourists visiting Thailand, and in previous years the average
turnout on any golf day has struggled to reach double figures. This
year is proving to be an exception however and last week the numbers
turning up to play were been nothing short of amazing, especially as
tuning into the World Cup is keeping them up half the night.
Monday, June 16, Plutaluang - Stableford
Today was lottery day and a case of ‘déjà vu’ for the
TRGG as for the second Monday running they headed off to play the
Navy Course at Plutaluang (North and West courses).
Jim
Cooper, winner at Pattana.
Two divisions were required because of the increased numbers and in
Division 1 it was the usual suspects heading the field. Neil Bramley
is proving very difficult to shift from the No.1 slot on most days
and so it proved once again, with him shooting the best score of the
day over the two divisions. Another top player, Daryl Ottaway, came
second and Thomas Nilsson slotted into third place.
As I said it was lottery day and some of my so called friends have
told me more than once that I have more chance of winning the
lottery than winning a golf competition. Guess what? I didn’t win
the lottery but I did win the golf. The old Scotty Cameron was on
fire and I hardly missed a putt all day. It was also good to get the
better of two Aussies, Bob Cannon and Derek Thorogood, although they
gave me a good run for my money.
Div.1 (0-13)
1st Neil Bramley (9) 38pts
2nd Daryl Ottaway (5) 36pts
3rd Thomas Nilsson (11) 35pts
Div.2 (14+)
1st Andy Rich (21) 35pts
2nd Bob Cannon (18) 34pts
3rd Derek Thorogood (17) 33pts
Wednesday, June 18, St. Andrews - Stableford
On Wednesday it was off to St Andrews, the Thai version
that is, not the Scottish one, and it was a Thai and a lady to boot
who showed all the boys her tail to lead them to the winning post.
The newly built Mod Chaviraksa (she doesn’t actually have a tail by
the way) jetted into first place, leaving Noel Pittard, in second
and Jon Dean in third to pick up the lesser prizes.
1st Mod Chaviraksa (12) 35pts
2nd Noel Pittard (8) 33pts
3rd Jon Dean (10) 32pts
Friday, June 20, Pattana -
Stableford
The TRGG rounded off a good week with a trip to Pattana.
Scotsman Jim Cooper, the Aberdonian with a voice straight out of the
Glasgow Gorbels (it certainly frightens me), was first past the
winning post. Derek Thorogood had another good day to finish in
second place and Jim Ray took third spot.
1st Jim Cooper (14) 35pts
2nd Derek Thorogood (17) 34pts
3rd Jim Ray (21) 32pts
Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would
like to play a round of golf with the TRGG, please phone Fergus
Brennan on 086 056 7019 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee
and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice
board.

Nixon sets the mark at Burapha
PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar
![](pictures/s12Outback91.jpg)
The lovely Nuan divides Friday’s winning
teams of Martin & Muzza (left) and Sugar & Dennis.
Monday, June 16, Burapha -
Stableford
We were expecting a better than average field for this low season at
Burapha today of 25 players having arranged to meet our four guests from
Melbourne on the tee at about 9 a.m. However, the starter had other
ideas and sent them out on the C & D loops, where they were the only
players on the course, leaving our comp on A & B from the blues with 21.
There was a strong wind blowing which kept both the temperature and,
with one exception, the scores low. The exception was Peter Nixon who
won the top division with an outstanding 38pts from Andre Coetzee (32)
and Mark Kembrey third on c/b with 31.
31pts was the winning score in the second division from Bob Lindborg,
with Barry McIntosh in second, beating Tim Knight on c/b, both on 29pts.
The only ‘2’ on the day was by Peter Nixon.
Div A (0-17)
1st Peter Nixon (11) 38pts
2nd Andre Coetzee (08) 32pts
3rd Mark Kembrey (17) 31pts
Div B (18+)
1st Bob Lindborg (20) 31pts
2nd Barry McIntosh (19) 29pts
3rd Tim Knight (27) 29pts
Tuesday, June 17, Laem Chabang - Stableford
In order to avoid the confusion of Monday at Burapha, we sent
our own minivan to Pattaya to collect the Melbourne visitors, Martin,
David, Mark & Simon – and welcome to you guys. Unfortunately, Simon
couldn’t make it as he was crook but the other three made up the field
of 10 playing the beautiful Laem Chabang A and B course on a fine hot
day.
Tony Garnett excelled on his home course to win with a fine score of
37pts, from Andree Coetzee (35) who had to be content again with second
place following his surprise second at Burapha. Third went to Mark
Middleton with 30pts on c/b from Rusty, and Mark also had the day’s only
‘2’.
1st Tony Garnett (13) 37pts
2nd Andre Coetzee (08) 35pts
3rd Mark Middleton (13) 30pts
Wednesday, June 18, Bangpra - Stableford
Once again the same story everywhere, millionaire’s golf with
very few other players on the course, although it did get a little
busier as we were finishing our round. 13 players today, with the three
3-balls shooting round in double quick time; the course was in excellent
condition and the greens were the fastest they’ve been of late.
Andre Coetzee at last went one better to secure first place with 35pts,
booming out some of his drives somewhere near 300 yards. Barry McIntosh,
playing in the same group, said jokingly, “I’m not playing with Andre
again. I thought I could play golf until I played with him; it took me
nearly two shots to catch up with him!”
Second place went to another of our visitors, Russ Rylance, who was
having his last game with us before returning to Aus on Thursday and
Tim’s interesting 32pts, with 5 wipes and eight 3-pointers surprisingly
put him in third.
There was just one ‘2’ from Tom Byrne.
1st Andre Coetzee (08) 35pts
2nd Russ Rylance (15) 33pts
3rd Tim Knight (26) 32pts
Friday, June 20, Green Valley - Stableford
Today we had a playing field of 35, which was very good
considering that we had a few regulars playing with the PSC at Pleasant
Valley.
This was the first in a series of our new better-ball events which will
take place near the middle of each month on Mondays at Burapha and
Fridays at Green Valley, alternating on a monthly basis. During the low
season we have an arrangement with both courses which allows the caddies
to play with us, in most cases with their regular golfer, for a
discounted fee and today was the first of its kind; although we have
done similar events in the past, pioneered mainly by Bob Lindborg and
previously also at Pattaya Country Club.
We had seven caddies playing with us today plus two other special
invitees and I am sorry to say that I forgot to take a picture of the
girls as they looked absolutely stunning and were very pleased to be
playing and not caddying for their regular players. It was a lot of fun
out there and the course was once again in good condition with the
greens reading nine on the stimp meter, which is slightly faster than
normal.
With the odd number of players, there was a blind draw to make up the
final three teams, resulting in a competitive field of 20 teams, which
was a really encouraging turnout, so well done to everybody and
especially to the Outbackers who put their hand in their pocket to make
it possible. Well done guys!
The top two winning teams came from the same four-ball, all regulars if
not members at Green Valley. Murray Hart & Martin Kingswood, both of
whom were having their first game for some time having literally just
returned from overseas, edged out Dennis Pelly & The Sugarman on count
back – both teams with 45pts.
Gerry Roche, although playing with his caddie Saeng and scoring 43pts
for sixth place, was drawn also with Nuan Keddie, a PSC member and over
here on holiday. They ended up also with 45pts to take third. The last
two podium places went to Barry McIntosh & David Davies (43) and Tim
