Arm Wrestling Championship
Magzhan Shamyiev defeats
Thailand’s Suthiwas Kohsamut for the under 75 kg. crown in this year’s
Pattaya International Arm Wrestling Championship. Shamyiev was one of three
Kazakhstani brothers who won all 3 divisions.
Jetsada Homklin
Kazakhstanis held an iron grip on this year’s Pattaya International
Arm Wrestling Championship, taking first place in all three divisions.
Magzhan Shamyiev, 21, won the under-75 kilogram division while Thailand’s
Suthiwas Kohsamut, who won the bracket last year, placed second. Valen Low
of Singapore grabbed third.
In the under-85 kg. class, Kazakhstan’s Raikhanov Shynbolat, 23, bested
Pavel Lunev of Russia for first place. Mark Luis Ben of the Philippines
placed third.
And in the over-85 kg. division, Kazakhstani Ongarbayev Kypyrgali, 19, took
first, with second place going to Roman Abramov from Russia.
(L to R) Magzhan Shamyiev,
winner of the under 75 kg. division; Raikhanov Shynbolat, winner of the
under 85 kg. division; and Ongarbayev Kypyrgali, winner of the over 85 kg.
division.
The contest adhered to international rules set by the
Thailand Arm Wrestling Association. Wrestlers competed in three divisions
with the winner of each taking home 50,000 baht. Second-place finishers
received 15,000 baht and third place got 5,000 baht.
The young Kazakhstanis were the crowd favorites, especially among women in
the audience. All are college students studying sports science.
“Some of us started training and preparing to become athletes since we were
seven to ten years old, training two hours a day and three days per week,”
Raikhanov Shynbolat said. “All our competition expenses are paid by the
government, which sends us to international competition very often, causing
us to travel a lot, meaning that we have to work harder on our studies.”
Ongarbayev Kypyrgali beats
Roman Abramov from Russia for the over 85 kg. trophy.
Raikhanov Shynbolat, 23,
bested Pavel Lunev of Russia for first place in the under 85 kg. division.

Continuity assured as Ocean
Property confirms ownership
of Top of the Gulf Regatta
Organised by Ocean Property,
the 2015 Top of the Gulf Regatta Presented by Ocean Marina will take place
30th April to 4th May, hosted by Ocean Marina Yacht Club, Jomtien, Pattaya,
Thailand.
Following the successful 10th Anniversary Top of the Gulf
Regatta, the dates have been set for next year - 30th April to 4th May 2015
- and organisers are planning for a strong fleet of boats ranging from
dinghies to large keelboats and multihulls hosted at Ocean Marina Yacht
Club, Jomtien, Pattaya.
Racing for the keelboats and multihulls will take place 1st to 4th May while
the Optimists, competing in the Thailand National Optimist Championships,
dinghies and beach catamarans will race over three days, 1st to 3rd May.
Registration for the keelboat and multihull classes, together with a
practice race and opening party will be on Thursday 30th April.
Ownership of the Regatta has been vested in Ocean Properties PLC, owners of
Ocean Marina, while the organising committee structure remains the same with
co-founder and long-serving chairman, William Gasson, appointed co-chairman
with Ocean Property’s Kirati Assakul, also a regular competitor at the
Regatta on his multihull Sonic.
Reflecting the ownership change, the regatta sees a change of name: Top of
the Gulf Regatta Presented by Ocean Marina.
Ensuring continuity, the regatta format remains unchanged and over the
coming years will evolve in response to competitors’ needs, as it has over
the past 10 years.
Home of the regatta since its inception, Ocean Marina has undergone
significant expansion in recent years and is now the largest marina in South
East Asia. In addition to the expansion in berthing, dry storage and onshore
facilities, a new 75 ton Travel Lift has been added and extensive dredging
taken place. The dredging will allow for more of the larger keelboats, such
as the TP52s - of which organisers have received new enquiries already - to
berth and join the regatta, and with the favourable berthing rates for
yachts proceeding to the Samui Regatta this bodes well for an increased
participation in 2015.
Ten years on, the Top of the Gulf Regatta Presented by Ocean Marina has
become firmly established on the sailing map, is one of the 12 five-star
regattas selected to be a part of the prestigious Asian Yachting Grand Prix
circuit, and today welcomes sailors of more than 35 nationalities each year
to compete.
The largest multi-class event of its kind in Asia, the Top of the Gulf
Regatta Presented by Ocean Marina regularly welcomes over 250 boats and more
than 650 sailors to compete across 10 or more classes, and incorporates the
Coronation Cup - competed for by one-design Platus - and the Thailand
National Optimist Championships.

Jimmy White highlights ‘whirlwind’ charity pool & snooker fundraiser
Jimmy White plays for the side
pocket in one of his many charity games played last week to raise money for
the Father Ray Foundation.
Paul Strachan
Veteran snooker ace Jimmy White was in Pattaya recently where he
gave up his time to play against local pool and snooker enthusiasts at
different venues, and all for charity.
Players paid 1000 baht to take on the ‘Whirlwind’ at four bars across the
city for the Father Ray Foundation educational fund. This was hot on the
heels of a press conference announcing a high profile snooker event that
will take place in August 2015 which will also raise funds for Father Ray.
Jimmy has a long affinity with Pattaya and recently purchased a unit at the
Palm Condo, so for him Pattaya is like a second home and is a familiar and
friendly face around town.
On Sunday the 7th of September Jimmy first played a number of regulars at
the Sportsman Bar where 13,840 baht was raised.
The following night Jimmy played at the Kilkenny Bar on LK Metro where a
further 20,660 baht went into the pot.
On Tuesday he ventured out by Mabprachan Lake to the very popular Brasshouse
where things started to get a bit crazy. 68,000 was pledged to play Jimmy,
then there was an auction for a signed snooker cue which went for 51,000
baht, which was then doubled by a generous guy making it 102,000 for the cue
- so a total of 170,000 baht was raised.
Jimmy Deakin from the Brass
House and his lovely wife present Jimmy White with flowers as a small token
of appreciation.
And finally, on Wednesday the 10th Jimmy went to a small
bar off of Soi Khao Noi which used to be called the Golden Gate but recently
changed hands and has been rebranded as The Dukes Lounge. 26 players took on
Jimmy raising 26,000 baht. This was followed by a raffle which made 5,400
baht, which Jamie Saunders from the Dukes Lounge and Jimmy Deakin from the
Brasshouse doubled to make it 31,400. An auction followed that raised a
further 22,000, and finally, to top it all off, some very generous donations
of 42,000 made a total of over 126,000 baht for the night.
In an exclusive interview with PMTV Jimmy stated that some of the most
competent opponents were Thai women who play a lot of pool and are confident
and determined.
Jimmy also stated that for him it was a pleasure to be involved in events
like this and that he was amazed at the generosity of people.
Over the four nights, over 330,000 baht was raised for the Father Ray
Foundation, a charity that is well loved here in Pattaya and that takes
cares of over 800 children across its various communities. With Jimmy
White’s help these children are promised a brighter future.

New Charity Golf Tournament
Derek Brook
Golf is, without a doubt, the most popular sporting activity among
expats living in Pattaya and regular visitors to our city.
Local newspapers give over several pages each week to announce results, show
photos of competition winners and also announce tournaments.
There are several prestigious tournaments each year that regularly see more
people wishing to play than can actually play, and now there is a new
tournament that will raise much needed funds for one of Pattaya’s largest
charitable organizations, the Father Ray Foundation.
The inaugural Father Ray Charity Golf for Good Tournament 2014 will take
place on the afternoon of Saturday 18th October at the newly opened Siam
Country Club Pattaya Waterside course. There will be a shotgun start at
12:00.
The cost of entering at team of four, in what is hoped will become an annual
tournament, is 40,000 baht, ten thousand baht per player.
This price will cover the cost of playing in the scramble tournament, an
invitation to the awards ceremony dinner and a souvenir gift bag, and a
percentage of the price will be given as a donation to the Education Fund at
the Father Ray Foundation.
As an extra bonus, the first player to achieve a hole-in-one will win a
brand new Nissan Almera.

Bob Watson and his merry men put on a show at Eastern Star
Travellers Rest Golf Group
Billy Allan, winner at Burapha
(on the right in the orange shirt).
Andy Rich
On Friday 12th September the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse rode
into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee, which just happens to be the
headquarters of the TRGG. Bob Watson and his merry men armed to the teeth
with their trusty golf clubs glistening in the sunlight stood there steely
eyed and challenged all around to take them on at Eastern Star. Now this is
the same Bob Watson who is probably the best middle aged scratch golfer
playing in Pattaya. Upon finding he is now playing off a four handicap the
rest of the congregation stood by and being sorely afraid raised their hands
to the skies in submission. And lo and behold some six hours later at the
aforementioned Eastern Star, Bob Watson once again was able to ride off into
the sunset laden down with all the spoils with the rest of us mere mortals
crying in our beer.
Anyway I am getting ahead of myself as I firstly need to tell you about the
TRGG annual tour to Hua Hin which took place during the first week of
September. Reports from those who attended were that it was a truly awesome
experience, much fun was had by all and everyone stated they will be
returning again next year. So that sounds good doesn’t it?
Tuesday, September 2, Sea Pines Hua Hin - Stableford
1st Tim Dalton (19) 38 pts
2nd Daryl Ottaway (6) 35 pts
3rd Rungratree Puangsal (10) 34 pts
Wednesday,
September 3, Springfield (A and B courses) Hua Hin -
Stableford
1st Tewin Poopay Lamthong (13) 37 pts
2nd Robert Cannon (20) 36 pts
3rd Rungratree Puangsal (10) 35 pts
Thursday,
September 4, Black Mountain Hua Hin - Stableford
1st Billy Allan (16) 40 pts
2nd Neil Bramley (8) 37 pts
3rd Jim Cooper (15) 37 pts
Friday, September 5, Banyan Hua Hin - Stableford
1st Robert Cannon (20) 41 pts
2nd Rungratree Puangsal (10) 38 pts
3rd Jeff Boylan (21) 37 pts
It was good to see the prizes being shared around with a different winner on
every day.
Wednesday,
September 10, Burapha (C and D courses) - Stableford
With everybody suffering a bit of jetlag after Hua Hin it was
Wednesday 10th September before this week’s competitions started with a trip
to Burapha (C and D courses). Billy Allan showed he had made a complete
recovery from the tour by taking top spot from two guys who had stayed at
home. Welsh maestro Alun Webber finished in second with Irish Lock Forward
Seamus Farrell showing he is not just a pretty face coming in third.
1st Billy Allan (15) 35 pts
2nd Alun Webber (20) 30 pts
3rd Seamus Farrell (29) 28 pts
Friday, September 12, Eastern Star - Stableford
So we are back to Friday 12th September and the Bob Watson show.
You have to admit Bob Watson is a good golfer and whether he is playing off
a handicap of plus 1 or seven, which he has done in the past year, there is
no stopping him, he always wins. Alun Webber played out of his skin on a
very tricky Eastern Star golf course to run him a close second and Bob’s
playing partner David Stockman strode in right behind in third place. There
was only one two on the day and there are no prizes for guessing who won the
two’s pot.
1st Bob Watson (4) 38 pts
2nd Alun Webber (20) 37 pts
3rd David Stockman (6) 36 pts
Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to
play a round of golf with the TRGG please phone Fergus Brennan on
(0860567019) or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name
to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.

Shuichi Kodaka tops the week
IPGC golf from The Haven
(From left) Don the nearly man, John Carlin & Shuichi Kodaka.
Monday, September 8, Greenwood B & C
Courses - Stableford CSS 72
1st Mathew Badman (11) 37
2nd Bruce Hilde (17) 36
3rd Allen Raaen (7) 33
Three great courses were on the schedule for the week, all at very affordable
prices, so the group set off from Soi 13 in high spirits expecting great things.
Most were disappointed on this day but Mathew Badman took full advantage of
Greenwood’s B & C nines, after finding them in tip top shape. But with a
variable wind seeming to be against whichever way the tee was facing, his final
score was a much better result that it would appear at first glance. A solid
start to his round set the tone for the day as he ended the front nine in one
under handicap and followed that up with a level handicap back nine to run out
the winner by one point.
Second place man Bruce Hilde was ahead after nine and still in front standing on
the fifteenth tee but then slipped in a couple of single pointers to allow the
winner to catch up. He could then only garner the standard four points from the
last two against the winner’s five points, which left him in second place but
well ahead of third placed Allen Raaen on three over handicap.
There followed a count back for fourth which Rod Crosswell won with 18, which
left Don Everett in fifth with 16 and Terry Hodgkiss in sixth with 15.
There were no 2’s in either of the divisions.
Before the presentations were made there was a welcome for new member Walter
Panichi together with a welcome back for Vincent Gras.
Wednesday, September 10, Khao Kheow C & A courses - Stableford
CSS 72
1st John Carlin (18) 36 cb 20
2nd Vincent Gras (16) 36 cb 19
3rd Rod Crosswell (15) 35
On the previous occasion that the group had played the course just a couple of
weeks ago the winner, Phil Cass, had strolled in with 45 points with second
placed Shuichi Kodaka amazingly only second with 43. But this time around it was
business as usual as the course bit back to leave the hopefuls a lot less
ecstatic at the end of a grinding eighteen that saw a level handicap score
return to the top of the podium.
John Carlin was the player standing on the top tier after winning a close fought
count back by the slimmest of margins after a strong 20 points on the C course
which was in fact the first nine to be played. But tradition is, count backs are
taken on the back nine on the card and so with 19 on the back Vincent Gras had
to settle for a second place having had one too many zeros on his card.
Rod Crosswell took third place after he had started extremely well on the first
nine returning 21 points, but a weaker back nine saw him slip down the pecking
order after gleaning just two points from the last three holes.
That left Kevin Townsend and Don Everett contesting a count back which Kevin won
with a better 16 to 12, as Don finished strongly on the course but had begun the
day a little too slowly, scoring just 12 points, as he creaked into action. That
left Allen Raaen in sixth but once again amongst the notables.
Prior to the presentations there were welcome backs for Jens Gunnarsson and John
Carlin and a farewell for Rod Crosswell.
Once again there were no 2’s in the first division but Jens Gunnarsson having
moved divisions recently took the roll over pot in the second division.
Friday, September 12, Mountain Shadow - Stableford CSS 71
1st Shuichi Kodaka (17) 43
2nd Don Everett (19) 37
3rd Bruce Hilde (17) 36
Following his close encounter with the winners step a couple of weeks earlier
when the same score was not quite enough, Shuichi Kodaka was much relieved at
the post-event press conference as he discussed his concerns that once again
seven under, on a tight and tough course that is renowned for not giving up good
scores easily, might not be enough as he waited for the rest of the field to
arrive at the scorers desk. But on this occasion five under handicap on the
front and another two under on the back, after having been cut two shots for his
previous efforts, ensured that his best ever return in competition would this
time be well rewarded with the winner’s accolades.
Don Everett rounded out a good week, during which he appeared three times
amongst the podium places, in second place with a score that on many other times
would have proved to be the winner but with Shuichi in such sparkling form it
was not to be.
Bruce Hilde almost took second spot away from Don but a misjudgment of holing
out from the green with the flagstick still in the hole meant a two shot penalty
and third place, and a hard learnt lesson to add to the experience bag.
Vincent Gras took his podium tally to two out of three with a one over handicap
round as he prepared to pack his bags once again and head of for a few days in
Darwin, finishing in fourth at one over. This left previous winner John Carling
in fifth and Trevor Schirmer in sixth after he had won a count back with John
Yarrow with a better 19 to 16.
Allen Raaen made up for what was for him a disappointing week, having had no
wins and just three long drives, as he took the triple roll over in the first
division 2’s.
Don Everett added to his day’s pot when he almost denied Allen with a hole in
one, and missing out the Golf Bag on offer as always from the IPGC, as he just
slid past the hole to leave a four incher for his two.
Back at The Haven before the presentations, there was a welcome back for Alwyne
Burley and a farewell for Jens Gunnarsson after a flying visit.
Note: If you would like to play with The Haven group, you can contact
mobile 094 567 5726 or call in to The Haven Hotel at 185 Soi 13, between Beach
Road and 2nd Road. All transportation to the course is arranged and you do not
need to sign up prior to the day, but you should be there by 8.15 on Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday on the days that you wish to play. A schedule of courses
to be played can be found on our web site at www.thehaven-hotel.com

Friday, August 22, Green Valley Golf Club
Green Valley was the venue for PSC 135th Monthly tournament and what
fine choice that was with a course presented in great condition, efficient
booking in and just the right weather for golf!
With a 2 tee start and 108 players (111 signed up there were 2 late withdrawals
and a ‘no show’), it was an early start for the advance party of Golf Chairman
Mark West, Peter Blackburn and Nigel Cannon to prepare for the arrival of the
players. Following registration it was off to the 1st and 11th tees where André
Van Dyke and Gerd Riedler were waiting as starters to ensure a smooth start from
the correct tees!
With no infiltrators it was just over 4 hours for most and Mark, Peter and Nigel
were on hand to calculate the results.
With both Mike Allidi (3) and Max Scott (5) returning an 80 gross it went to
count-back with Mike declared the winner.
‘A’ Flight from the - Blue Tees - also required a count-back with Jim Brackett
(8) and Bob Newell (8) both coming in with 74 Net - it was Jim who secured the

This month’s buffet and presentation was at Lewiinski’s where Colin and his team
produced an excellent spread catering for all tastes and appetites!
At presentation time, Nigel called order and welcomed all. H also announced the
sad passing of popular PSC member Jack Robertson, prompting glasses being raised
to ‘Absent Friends’. Nigel then introduced Golf Chairman Mark West. Mark
expressed his appreciation for today’s competitors and his team of helpers,
Peter, André, Gerd, Nigel, Noi and Kit with special appreciation for the PSC
office staff led by office manager Mai. Mark thanked Colin for producing
excellent food and service. He went on say he was continuing to have meetings
with all local golf course managers to secure competitive rates for PSC members.
Nigel then announced the winners and Mark presented the prizes. This was
followed by the lucky draw and the 50/50 draw which included 5 additional
vouchers. Andy Makara was the 50/50 winner on a day when he was a late entry and

Wichai back in charge... just!
IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at the Elephant Bar
The Pattaya Golf Society’s week began with a visit to Bangpra to play a
Stableford competition on a course which was splendidly presented with well
grassed fairways giving quite a good deal of run and consistent and quick
greens. The day was fine and all things made for a tight competition. The
group got away before time and the whole round was completed in under four
hours.
Sharing third place with 31 points were Larry Ang, shaking off the mantle of
mediocrity which had dogged his golf recently, and David Thomas, who has
also suffered a reaction to his excellent rounds of a week or so ago. In
second place was Mr Len with 33 points and for the first time in many a golf
day he managed to complete a round without three putting anywhere on the
course. The winner by the narrowest of margins was Wichai Tananusorn and he
stole the day’s glory with the only birdie two, on the seventeenth as well.
Thirty four points was an excellent return for the eight handicapper on a
course as testing as Bangpra.
The Booby Bevy went to Alan Walker for the lowest score of the day but it
had to be decided on countback! Days don’t get much better than this one on
a course a special as Bangpra.
Pattaya’s toughest test?
Some courses are known to be tough, such that experienced golfers
go there with mind and attitude prepared. Treasure Hill has, over many
years, had the lowest winning score of all courses on the PGS regular rota;
making it the hardest course on which to accumulate a good score. Our visit,
with five groups on Wednesday 10 September, was to prove no exception.
The course appeared very well presented with fairways offering excellent
lies. Bunkers were evenly raked and reasonably compact. Putting surfaces
were, we had been told, consistent and true. All this, combined with what
looked like perfect weather, suggested we take on the course from the white
tees; all 6726 yards of it.
Within the first few holes two hitherto unknown conditions revealed
themselves. One was the fact that despite their visual appeal the fairways
were not providing run, as many drives stopped abruptly on landing. The
second issue took a little longer to work out. The humidity was high -
rather like playing in April - and increasing as cloud cover increased. The
resulting effect on ball flight became significant; perhaps as much as two
club lengths. With the completion of the first nine came the realisation
that we were, in effect, playing the equivalent of a course measuring
perhaps 6900 yards; then the storm arrived. The scores say the rest.
There was one two, achieved by Masashi Iizumi on the 6th, which guaranteed
he would enjoy the outing regardless of score. As for the four who made the
podium, none are likely to regale their grandchildren of their golfing feats
on this particular day!
Back at the Elephant bar we welcomed new member Kim Hewton from Australia,
and bid farewell to Paul Whitnall, returning to the UK. Mr Len drew Dave
Edwards’ name for the lucky beer draw, whilst the booby bevy was awarded to
newcomer Kim as part welcome and part commiseration for his ‘mare of a
round.
Notwithstanding the difficulty of the test, the lowness of the scores and
the decision to play from the whites (the yellow tees would have been wiser
in hindsight), the opportunity to play this beautiful test of golf, at a
mere 900B green-fee/caddie fee was appreciated by most. Asked if they would
like a chance to repeat the experience, from the same tees, 11 of 17
indicated they would. Perhaps the others would also reply in the affirmative
if they knew the yellow tees (6377 yards) would be used. Whatever the case,
any return trip to this excellent golf course should see us use the yellow
tees, at least until the dry season arrives.
1st: David Thomas (8) 29 points
2nd: Gary Bolger (17) 28 points
3rd: Ian Wilson (23) 27 points
4th: Akifumi Tate (14) 24 points.
The course won!
More tough times on a testing track
The Pattaya Golf Society left Soi Buakaow on Friday, 12th
September, under heavy skies, anticipating a Stableford competition
punctuated by showers at Pattavia. Whilst conditions remained very humid for
the whole day the rain stayed away and a long course, well presented and
empty, awaited the group at tee off time.
Scoring would not be special as the previous round at Treasure Hill had
shown, with flight distances restricted by the heavy air and only a little
run on the fairways. However, a tight competition lay in store.
Sharing third place with 34 points were Jon Batty for whom “the wheels came
off” on the back nine after an excellent two under front nine, and two
handicapper Chris Smith who recorded the best gross of the day, 76 shots.
The win was shared by Murray Edwards and Mr Len with 35 points each. Chris
Smith and Andrew Purdie recorded birdie twos on the thirteenth to share the
bonus pool and Bryan Brown’s nineteen points on the back nine complemented
his nine on the front to give him a deserved Booby Bevy for the day’s
largest split figures. Larry Ang again enjoyed the non-winners’ beer
courtesy of Shane and Peter, mine hosts of the Elephant Bar.
It had been a tough week on the course with the PGS but nevertheless golfers
had enjoyed the challenges that the wet season can present at this time of
year.

Team 1-2-3 proves to be enjoyable
game going down well with everyone
Jomtien Golf with the I.P.G.C.
Colin Phillips & Alan Bissell.
Monday September 1, Pattana - Stableford
As we drive towards the course up the 331 the clouds in
the distance look very threatening and as we pull into the clubhouse and
congregate the conversations are shall we play today or call it a miss. In the
end we check in with five groups. The A course is still shut, so we are
allocated the B and C courses with a tough tee off for all on the first hole.
Ricko, alias Steve Richardson the Siam Cats lover boy, playing his last game
with us comes in with 36 points to win division 1. Colin Phillips, also with his
last game, comes in second three points behind and keep it in the family his
older brother Lindsay finishes third with 28 points.
In division 2 Alan Bissell wins the division with 30 points, Chris Reed is
second one point behind and Glen Martin is third on 25.
We were very lucky with the weather today, there were rolling dark clouds moving
in as the first group reached the 10th tee and a light drizzle lasted for 10
minutes, so we all continued.
Near pins: Div 1. Terry Madsen, Lindsay Phillips, Steve Richardson and Chris
Voller. Div 2. Colin Phillips (2), Gill Phillips and Chris Reed.
In the two’s today a rollover to Burapha in division 1 but in division 2 Colin
Phillips birdies B3 and Chris Reed B7 to split the box in division 2.
Wednesday September 3, Burapha - Stableford
We booked the A and B nines and that was what we played
today off the white tees. An equal cut in the cards with division 1 at 9-18 and
division 2 at 19 plus. Harry Vincenzi records the best score of the day winning
division 1 with 36 points. Ted Morris is second two points behind and Bob Poole
beats Lindsay Phillips 16/14 on the back nine after they both came in with 32.
Nobody likes to see that!
Wilf Latham & Karl Flood.
Chris Reed with a 16/15 countback wins
division 2 beating Rod Howett after they both shoot 36 points. Tom Novak is
third on 34.
Near pins: Div 1. Lindsay Phillips (2) and Harry Vincenzi. Div 2. Bob Poole and
Mario Semmens.
Lindsay Phillips birdied A6 for the only two of the day in division 1 and also
takes a Pattana rollover as well. Mario Semmens also birdied A6 in division 2.
Friday September 5, Eastern Star - Stableford 1-2-3
There are ten groups out today in an individual Stableford
competition as always but with a 1-2-3 team competition as well sponsored by the
rollover kitty. The equal cut today was 9-17 and 18+ and playing off 17 with 20
points on the front nine and 20 on the back Paul Butler wins division 1 with 40
points. Harry Vincenzi knocks Chris Voller off the second position with a 21/16
back nine countback after they both come in with 37 points.
Playing to his new handicap over the past two weeks Rod Howett is the winner in
division 2 with 34 points. One point behind, Bristol Bob is second and in third
place Iain Walsh beats Chris Reed and Glyn Evans 19/14/13 as they all come in
with 32 points.
Near pins: Div 1. Karl Flood, Grenville Hill and Khalifa Nasser (2). Div 2. Alan
Bissell and Paul Butler (2).
In the technical prizes today on each hole for two divisions, on the first
nearest the pin in two shots Chris Voller and Bryan Priestley; on the eighth in
three shots, Chris Voller and Chris Reed; the 11th in three shots Harry Vincenzi
and Andy Crabb; and on the 12th nearest the pin in 2 shots Karl Flood and Bob
Poole, and finally the straightest drive on the 16th Khalifa Nasser and Glyn
Evans.
In the two’s two rollovers in division 1 and Grenville Hill is a happy chappy
after a birdie on the tough 3rd hole today while in division 2 Paul Butler
birdies the 6th and 17th to grab the lot.
In the team 1-2-3, Bill Bertram, Karl Flood and Chris Voller are the winners
with 79 points. Paul Butler, Alan Hansen and Tony Thorne are second beating Glyn
Evans, Rod Howett and Lindsay Phillips 49/45 on the back nine after both teams
come in with 75 points. A really enjoyable team game that went down well with
everyone.

Small turnout results
in pleasant round
PSC Golf from Tropical Bert’s
Winners Brian Parish and Ted
Morris.
Derek Brook
Tuesday, September 9, Mountain Shadow - Stableford
This morning at Bert’s we were in ‘find me if you can mode’ as
our normal group all went on holiday somewhere else in Thailand. Normally I
get annoyed that for weeks we have many and then suddenly have few. However,
never mind the width and feel the quality, so it was with a smile we lifted
off for Mountain Shadow.
With just a couple of groups it is so easy to get away, and I did not even
have to have a start list, just you and you and you first and then rest
last. Not even a need to get the near pin markers out, and as my group all
were in carts it made for a really pleasant round on a course that was in
fine condition.
Round over it was a pleasure to get into the showers. This for many years
has been one of the golfers’ main crib about this course, so it was a
pleasure to see that at last this area is nearly finished. Mind the towels
are old friends but one cannot have everything.
So, on the day the winner was Brian Parish with 35 points, with Ted Morris
second with 34 points. All in all a fine day with the pressure off the
organiser, but they will all be back next week, Such is life.

Another beautiful day in golfing paradise
PSC golf Bunker Boys @ The Ranch
Geoff Cox models the latest
line of golf wear!
Monday, September 8, Laem Chabang G.C.
- Stableford
It was a bright sunny morning as we had breakfast at The Ranch, but your
scribe was suffering from a heavy cold and decided not to play, leaving only
8 players for the trip to Laem Chabang.
It was a perfect day for golf, sunny, not too hot, with no hint of rain and
we elected to play the Valley (C) and Mountain (A) courses off the white
tees. The course was in good condition as always, with the greens true and
running at 9 on the stimp meter. But there had been strong overnight rain
and the superintendent had put some of the tees on the C course well
forward, almost on the red tees on some holes. This didn’t suit the low
markers but there was little roll, with many drives stopping dead, and the
decision to play preferred lies on the fairways was well justified.
Fortunately, the tees on the A course were in the normal position and there
was a bit more run as the course dried out.
We expected Paul Smith, who has been playing well lately, to tear the course
up but he struggled on the front nine, clearly not enjoying the shorter
course. Only three shots separated six players after 9 holes, but a strong
back nine of 21 points by Geoff Hart (hcp.25) saw him win comfortably with
37 points from Keith Hemmings (hcp.17) on 34 points and Raleigh Gosney
(hcp.16) playing his last game before returning to work in Japan in third
with 32 points.
This will probably be our last visit here for this year because the special
low season discount finishes next month, and the novelty of playing here has
begun to wear off, particularly when the compulsory buggies are restricted
to cart paths only.
1st Geoff Hart (hcp. 25) 37 points
2nd Keith Hemmings (hcp. 17) 34 points
3rd Raleigh Gosney (hcp. 16) 32 points
Near Pins: Ron Dickie (2), Colin Greig and Paul Smith.
Wednesday,
September 10, Green Valley G.C. - Stableford
There were heavy clouds gathering as we drove to the Green Valley
course, but no rain was falling and we teed off a few minutes early, with an
apparently empty course ahead of us.
As the leading three-ball were playing the 4th hole they were warned by the
marshal to slow down because they were rapidly catching up to a very slow
group (that has to be a first!), and sure enough on the 5th tee they found
two groups waiting. Fortunately the marshal must have found a way to speed
up the tardy culprits and the pace of play picked up again on the inward
nine so that the round was completed in reasonable time.
No rain fell throughout the round and the overcast skies kept the
temperature at a reasonable level, which made it a pleasant day out for all
concerned on a course which is in great shape at the moment.
The best performance of the day came from Colin Greig who was leading Geoff
Parker by a single point on the front nine, but then produced a three over
par gross score on the inward nine to comfortably take first place. Dave
Ashman also had a good back nine (19 points) to snatch second place on a
countback from the unlucky Geoff Parker, who suddenly found he couldn’t get
the ball to the hole on the back nine greens, leaving three separate putts
one inch short!
We were welcoming back an old friend, Bob St. Aubin, who hasn’t played with
us for a couple of years, but the pressure of the occasion proved too much,
and a disastrous start to the round (2 blobs in the first 3 holes) scuppered
his chances before he got going - never mind Bob it was good to play with
you again.
1st Colin Greig (hcp. 7) 37 points
2nd Dave Ashman (hcp. 15) 34 points
3rd Geoff Parker (hcp. 15) 34 points
Near pins: Bob St. Aubin, Geoff Parker and Keith Hemmings.
Friday, August 12, Khaow Kheow G.C. (C and A courses) -
Stableford
Another bright sunny morning as our three groups of golfers teed
off on the daunting first hole on the C course, a few minutes ahead of
schedule. The course was quiet and in good condition with the greens running
true, if a little slow.
The round progressed smoothly and everyone was back in the clubhouse in a
little over four hours, but as usual here the course had won the day over
most players, and only Paul Smith managed to play to his handicap. Paul had
a disappointing front nine by his standards, but his back nine score of one
under par gross saved the day to secure first place two points clear of
Geoff Parker.
Paul wrapped up a good day by taking three of the four near pin prizes with
Colin Greig taking the remainder.
It should be mentioned that using the green fee vouchers currently available
from the PSC office, that Khaow Kheow offers good value for money at the
moment and is well worth a visit.
1st Paul Smith (hcp. 4) 36 points
2nd Geoff Parker (hcp. 15) 34 points
3rd Ken Young (hcp. 26) 33 points
Near Pins: Colin Greig and Paul Smith (3).
Note: The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society, who now play
out of The Ranch bar on Pattaya 3rd Road (in front of the fire station, and
almost opposite the Buffalo Bar). We play three times per week on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but
competitive golf competition why not come and join us. We meet at The Ranch
at 9 a.m. for breakfast and transportation, and new players are always
welcome. Contact “Buff” on 086 046 5091 or 080 605 5663 for all enquiries.

Kabinburi classic combo
Steve Ellison
Monday, Sept. 8, Rayong Green Valley -
Stableford - White tees
1st Mark Wood (7) 37 points
2nd Jack Grindvold (3) 35 points
2nd Anders Pedersen (10) 35 points
If you’re reading this from overseas, this may be a little hard to
believe. We have hardly had any rain at all so far in September, the
rainiest month in Pattaya. The weather has been pleasantly overcast
on many days providing perfect conditions for golf so we have been
taking advantage of this most fortunate weather condition and
getting out while we can. It’s bound to come sometime soon, but up
until now it has been fantastic.
Green Valley got a bit of rain the night before but by the time we
got out conditions were just fine. As usual, the course was in great
shape so off we went at our 09:28 tee time for another round of
superb golf.
The dandy Scandies were out in full force today with Anders and Jack
both at that same magic 35 number on the cards. Today’s win went to
TGC regular Mark Wood, no stranger to the podium, as he was the only
golfer to best his handicap with a 37. We must also thank Mark for
stopping off at the duty free and picking up a 15 year old Penfold’s
“Grandfather” Tawny Port that capped off the evenings celebrations!
I could really get used to that vintage.
Thursday, Sept. 11, Kabinburi Sports Club -
Stableford - Yellow Tees
1st - Ron Robertson (25) 36 points
2nd - Phil Smedley (11) 34 points
2nd - Brendan Cope (28) 34 points
We love going up to play the Kabinburi Sports Club and staying at
the Kantary Hotel. The rooms are fantastic and the only complaint is
that we don’t get to spend enough time there! After we got checked
in and the girls settled in with a quick lunch downstairs, we headed
up the 33 for the 12 k drive to the golf course.
We had the course all to ourselves, but there was a local tournament
that teed off earlier that morning. Lift, clean and place was on the
tee box announcement from Capt. Phil as is the proper system for
this time of year. The yellow tees gave us a 6,250 yard test and
that was plenty of course for us to handle.
Brendan (playing off 28) had a huge 9th hole as his approach from
150 yards landed 10 inches from the pin, so his tap in birdie scored
5 for 3! The other highlight was on the signature “Crocodile” hole
with all that water as we all walked off with everyone scoring pars!
Condition of the course was just about perfect, and the bunkers are
now really good.
Phil and Brendan had good, consistent rounds of 34 points, but the
steady play of Ron Robertson surprised us all as he turned in a 36
point card for the only level handicap of the day.
Back to the Kantary for our traditional wine & cheese poolside party
before the buffet dinner and we actually still had the energy to get
over across the road to the Sweet Palm Home cowboy bar for a few
songs. I guess we can thank little Ally for that one.
Friday, Sept. 12, Kabinburi Sports Club -
Stableford - Yellow Tees
1st - Brendan Cope (28) 35 points
2nd - Ron Robertson (25) 34 points
3rd - Terry Dyer (15) 33 points
Day 2 of the Road Trip for September and after a light rain last
night, the course beckons us once again. With full tummies from that
great breakfast buffet, we were looking forward to another great day
of golf back at KSC. Today actually turned out to be a hot one as
the clouds burned off halfway through the round and forced our
excellent caddies into umbrella duty.
No one shot to their handicap today but the ducks were all lined up
as 35, 34 and 33 points were paraded on the podium. Our Kiwi mate
Terry Dyer, on a quick trip over from Australia’s Central Coast, now
has the moniker “The Sandman” as a dozen shots in the bunkers all
were put to within 6 feet (ish) of the pin! Ronnie (R2) had another
cracking round with 34 points for second. Today it was the high
handicapper Brendan who shot the best with his 35 pointer for a well
deserved win. Thanks to all who joined us for another fun time on
the road!
The Golf Club is “The Home of Golf in Pattaya” and is located on Soi
LK Metro. We broadcast all English Premier League, UFC, NFL, MLB and
AFL games live. Our kitchen is open from 07:00-22:30 with our famous

Paul Greenaway wins inaugural KCL Tournament
PSC golf from the Billabong Golf Bar
Alan, George and Gary.
Friday, Sept. 12, Silky Oak - Stableford
Another successful day out at Silky Oak for our first annual
KCL (Kerwin Company Ltd.) Tournament. With nine groups playing we were
all away by 9.15.
Having been warned the greens had been sanded just a few days ago and
that they would be a little slow, we were pleasantly surprised as they
were in good shape although a little bumpy on some of them.
George, Bob and J.J. Harney.
A big thank you for Mick Williams for the major prizes from the Baan
Tong Tong resort, which included dinner for two, two night’s
accommodation for two people at the resort including dinner and
breakfasts, four 1000 baht vouchers for drinks at the resort, all prizes
well worth winning. If you have friends coming from overseas and they
don’t want to stay in town, check out this place.
KCL
Tournament winner Paul Greenaway.
It was a fun day out and everyone enjoyed themselves. The prizes went
down to 15th place, and the card draw sorted out the rest of the players
all went home with something.
The near pins were won by Jeff North on hole 5 and seventh, Mal
Farquharson got the 14th and William Macey got the 16th, all won a mini
radio for their shots.
There were five two’s coming from Alan Cassin, Jeff North who should
have got two, Brian Maddox, William Macey and Mal Farquharson.
The NAGA award went to Tony who’s last name will remain a mystery to
save any embarrassment.
KCL
Tournament 2nd place J.J. Harney.
The day was won by the scribe’s good mate Paul Greenaway with a
fantastic one over gross 73 for 44 Stableford points. It was a true
pleasure to watch Paul - thanks for the lesson. Second place went to
J.J. Harney with 39 points, his second in succession at the Billabong
this week but he won with his last 39. Graham Beaumont got third with 39
also. Fourth went to William Macey with 38, Joe Mooneyham got fifth with
37 points then it went to count backs for the rest of the placings from
36 down to 33, and a sole 31 for fifteenth.
The weather stayed good with a rain cloud that went right around us. So
we had a day of overcast pleasant conditions.
Monday, Sept. 8, Emerald - Stableford
With a small field, we left the bar for the Emerald, it being
a lovely day for golf. Thank you to my mate George Barrie for looking
after the lads in my absence.
We welcomed Gary Hartshorne, Alan Cassin and Abe Gurman to the Billabong
today and they then proceeded to show all and sundry how to play the
game.
KCL
Tournament 3rd place William Macey.
The course was in great condition with all the work they have done on it
coming to fruition. The course was too good for some by the look of the
scores, as only four players managed to get 30 or more points. It must
have been tough out there and I’m kind of glad I couldn’t make it.
There was one good player out there, though, Gary Hartshorne, who won
the day with a fine 38 points. It was a five shot lead over his good
mate Alan Cassin who took second with 33 points, and coming third but
with no pay day was Abe Gurman with 31 points.
There were two twos coming from Mal Farquharson and Brian Maddox.
Wednesday, Sept. 10, Green Valley - Stableford
Playing our usual venue of Green Valley today, and the course
was as busy as, but still in great condition even with all the traffic
on it. We were joined by some of the teams from Karratha over here to
play in Rosco’s Green Jacket and his invitational tournament down in Hua
Hin - and a colourful lot they are too. All the best to all who are
playing.
We had 10 ladies playing today, which is great. If it keeps growing like
this we will have to have a separate ladies division. With nine groups
playing and no rain to speak of we got away right on time and were all
in just on four hours later, but it was hot in places.
There were some good scores today with most of the players scoring in
the 30s. It was a three way count back for the minor placings today with
Bob Philp getting the forth spot with 37 points, coming in third was Bob
Finley, also 37, and taking second spot was Nichawan Khiaophuang (Sa)
courtesy of 22 points on the back nine, also 37 points. Taking out the
top spot was the man from the Emerald Isle, J.J. Harney, with a great 39
points.
There were three twos coming from George Barrie, Barry Williams and
Nichawan Khiaophuang.
Note: The Billabong is situated just off Siam Country road
looking down Lake Mabprachan or call Bob on 0822043411 if you are
looking for a game.

Karl Beter comes closest to taming Pattavia
PSC from Cafe Kronborg
Karl Beter.
Dave Richardson
Thursday, Sept 11, Pattavia - Stableford
The test today was Pattavia, 1 hour up the 331 in light
traffic with work being done on the pineapple road almost fully
passable without potholes. Quick check-in and off the first tee 10
minutes early under overcast skies and a nice breeze all day.
The course on the day was in fine condition but a little wet with no
restriction on carts. The bunkers as a whole were in the finest
condition seen in years anywhere in Thailand.
Back in the clubhouse after a round of 3 hours and 50 minutes,
welcomes went out to Steen Habersaat and Lan Lovgreen back for the
winter from Denmark.
With the course in such fine condition the scores were the worst
ever, with Karl Beter the winner on countback from Mike Winfield
second, both 26 points, and Dave Richardson third on a countback
from Jan Lovgreen, both 25 points.
1st Karl Beter (30) 26 Points
2nd Mike Winfield (21) 26 Points
3rd Dave Richardson(26) 25 Points

Jack Moseley wins this month’s DeVere Monthly Medal
PSC Golf from Outback Golf Bar
Mike Missler (left), low
gross winner, with Greg Hirst from DeVere and Jack.
Monday, Sept 8, Burapha C & D -
Stableford
I don’t think I have ever seen Burapha C and D in better
condition than it was presented to us today; although apart from the six
groups of Outbackers, there were very few other to enjoy it.
The tough rough must have been a big factor in the low scoring as the
best score that anyone in Div A could muster was a lowly 33pts, attained
by Mr Consistent himself, Bob Finley. Second was another Bob, Bob St.
Aubin (32) squeezing a quick game in here and there between work
schedules. Third was Martin Kingswood on 31, beating Murray and Brad on
countback.
Surprisingly, Tim Knight found himself at the top of Div B with the
day’s best score of 35pts, as Tim has been struggling of late getting
all 18 holes to count but at last today he was a bit nearer the mark.
Second was Martin O’Neill (31) and Sugar (30), third.
Welcome back again to Rob Wode from Australia and also to Martin O’Neill
back from the UK for a few weeks or so.
There were five ‘2’s from Murray Hart & Geoff Stimpson on C5, Dennis
Pelly (C8), Bob Finley (D2) and Jim Brackett (D8).
Div A (0 - 14)
1st Finley, Bob 33 pts (14)
2nd St. Aubin, Bob 32 pts (13)
3rd Kingswood, Martin 31 pts (13)
Div B (15+)
1st Knight, Tim 35 pts (24)
2nd O’Neill, Martin 31 pts (24)
3rd Handford, Sugar Ray 30 pts (18)
Tuesday, Sept. 9, Bangpra C & D - Stableford
Only two groups played at Bangpra, affectionately known as
the Monkey course which is now showing the results of the recent rain by
being in excellent condition, although the greens were slower than
usual. This course is right up there with the best of them at the moment
and is always a good challenge.
Brad Jordison continues to strike the ball well and the extra length of
this course contributed hugely to Brad’s 35pts to win the day with
another excellent ball striker, Geoff Stimpson, taking second with 31.
Third was a new player to the Outback and welcome to him, Usman JanJua
with a distant 25pts, beating both John Fitzgerald and Rob Wode on
countback.
There were no ‘2’s.
1st Jordison, Brad 35 pts (06)
2nd Stimpson, Geoff 31 pts (08)
3rd JanJua, Usman 25 pts (14)
Wednesday, Sept 10, Laem Chabang A & B
Whilst there were five groups playing at Laem Chabang on A &
B, the day belonged to Brad Jordison who had a fantastic one under gross
off his six handicap to amass an unbeatable 43pts. Well done Brad.
Playing with Ron Dickie, also a six marker, Brad left him in his wake
making Ron’s 37pts look rather ordinary, leaving him in second place
which probably on most other days, would have been enough to win. Club
member Tony Garnett rounded off the podium in third with 34.
Andy Stewart (Brad’s mate) celebrated his new teeth by winning the
second Div with 37pts from John Fitzgerald (35) and Steve Durey (34).
John leaves on a high after his second place today as he and his wife,
Maggie, are off back to Ireland tomorrow and we shall see you here,
perhaps more permanently, when you both return in December.
Once again there were no ‘2’s.
Div A (0 - 14)
1st Jordison, Brad 43 pts (06)
2nd Dickie, Ron 37 pts (06)
3rd Garnett, Tony 34 pts (14)
Div B (15+)
1st Stewart, Andy 37 pts (15)
2nd Fitzgerald, John 35 pts (18)
3rd Durey, Steve 34 pts (19)
Friday, Sept 12, Green Valley - DeVere Monthly Medal &
Day 1 of the Outback Decanter
This is a strange old place I find myself in after a very
long absence, after seeing my handicap slip out over the last 5 years
from 7 to 22, to be at the top of the pile, in a medal competition of
all things, not only winning this month’s DeVere Monthly Medal,
presented by Greg Hirst but also leading the two day 7th Anniversary
tournament going into Burapha on Monday.
A fantastic turn out to celebrate the Outback’s birthday, originally of
44, but with a couple of no shows reduced to 42, and a few regulars away
back in Aus or on holiday - so give yourselves a pat on the back for all
turning up on time which makes the starter’s life easier (thank-you
Suzi) and your support is really appreciated.
Day 2 kicked off on Monday, Sept. 15, at Burapha, where all those within
8 shots of the lead (net 75’s) competed in another round of stroke play
for the coveted Outback Decanter (Frank O’Neill Memorial) donated by
Martin O’Neill. The day culminated in complimentary food and live music
from The Band of Smiles (results next week).
Long time no see Gary Saunders was in second, just one shot back on 68;
followed home by a five way tie for third on 70 involving Tony Aslett,
Geoff Stimpson, Barney Clarkson (who left for Aus last night), Bob
Mattes and Mike Missler.
Special thanks also go to Tim Knight, who has helped out enormously with
organising the golf in recent months and cannot play on Monday as he
left for Aus immediately after the round today and by the way Tim, you
owe all three of us 100 baht.
Finally congratulations to Mike Missler as he won the Low Gross Medal
with his 76, well done Mike!
There was only one ‘2’ which came from Suzi on the 5th hole.
DeVere Monthly Medal
1st Moseley, Jack 89 - 22 = 67
2nd Saunders, Gary 84 - 16 = 68
Tie 3rd Aslett, Tony 94 - 24 = 70
Tie 3rd Stimpson, Geoff 78 - 08 = 70
Tie 3rd Clarkson, Barney 94 - 24 = 70
Tie 3rd Mattes, Bob 93 - 23 = 70
Tie 3rd Missler, Mike 76 - 06 = 70

It’s Nyborg’s week
PSC Golf from Lewiinski’s Golf Society
Thomas Nyborg.
Sunday, September 7, Green Valley -
Stableford
A Flight
1st Simon Kendal (11) 37 pts
2nd Jim Brackett (5) 37 pts
3rd Eddy Beilby (14) 36 pts
B Flight
1st Thomas Nyborg (19) 39 pts
2nd Peter Terry (19) 39 pts
3rd Colin Davis (16) 37 pts
Near Pins: No 5 Ian Jones, No 8 Peter Terry, No 12 Dave Bill Peach, No 16 JP
Maffray.
You cannot fault Peter Terry’s 39 point effort but unfortunately it’s not as
favorably distributed as Thomas Nyberg’s, but it was good for a share of the
bragging rights, and the silver in B Flight on the day. Thomas started the
week as he fished last week with a top place finish. Tomas and Peter were
one clear of the Colin ‘the Donkey’ Davis.
It needed a count back in A Flight to sort out the top two podium spots, as
Simon Kendal and Big Jim Brackett were locked on 37 points, but Simon was
the better when he compared his back nine score to that of Jim. Eddy ‘the
Eagle’ Beilby swopped in to fill the flight with a steady even par round.
Leo Hosting, William Peach and Bob Fagan split the 2’s pot.
Tuesday, September 9, Laem Chabang B+C - Stableford
A Flight
1st Ron Dickie (6) 38 pts
2nd Freddy Starbeck (13) 38 pts
3rd Dave Stockman (6) 36 pts
B Flight
1st Alan White (18) 41 pts
2nd Christian Boysen (18) 37 pts
3rd Colin Davis (16) 35 pts
C Flight
1st Thomas Nyborg (19) 34 pts
2nd Jorn Finnerup (21) 32 pts
3rd Bill Broschart (21) 27 pts
A large crowd made their way to Jack’s Masterpiece Laem Chabang to receive
the usual warm welcome from the staff. After a quick check in, it was off to
the first tee for a prompt start on a sunny day with a slight breeze making
for comfortable conditions.
It was very comfortable for Alan White as he amassed a staggering 41 points
for the top spot in B Flight and the match honours. The inform Christian
Boysen took the silver with 37 points leaving the Donkey to tidy up the
flight with 35 points.
The A Flight laurels went to Ron Dickie but Ron needed the aid of a
favourable count back decision over Freddy, ‘the very quiet one’ Starbeck,
both with a rock solid 38 points. Dave stockman rounded out the flight with
an even par round.
It was of no surprise to see Thomas Nyborg standing a top of the C Flight
podium as his 34 points made it three wins on the bounce. Thomas was two
clear of Irishman Jorn Finnerup. The flight bronze went to a count back
between Bill Broschart and Barry Oats, with the scales of justice falling in
Bill’s favour.
Ron Dickie and Alistair Gall split a very healthy 2’s pot.
Wednesday,
September 10, Burapha A+B - Stableford
A Flight
1st Alan White (18) 42 pts
2nd Manos Volikaisk (18) 39 pts
3rd Aiden Murray 9180 38 pts
B Flight
1st Ray Fowlis (34) 36 pts
2nd Peter Terry (20) 36 pts
3rd Thomas Nyborg (19) 36 pts
Alan White, who won Tuesday’s game, stepped it up a notch to take a three
point victory in A Flight with 42 sparkling points. Alan Volikaisk was the
silver award recipient, as Aiden Murray used the ubiquitous count back to
fill the bronze spot from Paul Smith, as nothing previously sorted out their
joint 39 points.
The entire C Flight podium was separated only by count back. When the divots
had settled it was Ray ‘hud-cap’ Fowlis who emerged with the gold. The
consistent Peter Terry grabbed the silver. Guess who? Closed the flight out
- that’s right, three time winner this week Thomas Nyborg.
The happiest golfer on the day was Rune Askdal as he was the sole heir to
the 2’s pot.
Friday, September 12, Mountain Shadow - Stableford
A Flight
1st Mike Jefferys (17) 37pts
2nd Murray Aiden (18) 36 pts
3rd Thomas Nyborg (19) 36 pts
Thomas Nyborg continued his weekly climb to the top of the podium as Sundays
first was followed by Tuesday’s first which was followed by Wednesdays’
third and culminated in today’s third place. “How’s that for a week of
golf.” But the winner on the day and the only player to better his handicap
on the day at the always tough Mountain Shadow was Mike ‘the welsh Dragon’
Jefferys with a sound 37 points. Mike was one clear of Aiden Murray who does
not need to be shown where the pay window is and you know who. Aiden had the
better of the count back.
No 2’s were recorded.

Snooker’s best to complete for charity in Pattaya next year
Organizers, players and
benefactors gather for a group photo during the press conference
announcing next year’s Pattaya Snooker Open at the Amari Orchid Resort &
Tower to benefit the Father Ray Foundation.
Marcus Souksi & Urasin Khantaraphan
Some of the greatest snooker players of all time will raise
funds for the Father Ray Foundation at the Pattaya Snooker Open at the
Amari Orchid Resort & Tower next year.
The world’s top players from Europe and Thailand - including Ken
Doherty, Jimmy White, John Higgins, Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon, James
Wattana, Dechawat Poomjaeng, and Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn - will
compete over three days in the last week of August 2015, with 500 seats
available for fans to take in the action.
Funds raised will go to the Father Ray Foundation’s education fund.
The tournament will be held under the supervision and rules of the
European Billiards & Snooker Association, International Billiards and
Snooker Federation and Billiards Sports Association of Thailand.
The marquee players will bring a long list of titles and accomplishments
to the Pattaya tourney.
Thanawat, nicknamed “Thai-namite,” reached the final 32 of the 2011
German Masters and was the youngest player at just 16 years of age to
get a maximum 147 break. He was a quarter finalist at the 2013 European
Tour Events 5 and 6, and winner of the IBSF World Under-21 Snooker
Championships in 2011 and, in 2009 and 2010, a semifinalist at the ACBS
Asian Snooker Championship.
James Wattana from Thailand was relegated from snooker’s main tour after
a disappointing 2013/2014 season but will enter the Open with a special
invitation extended from World Snooker. He was the first player from the
Far East to make a significant impact in professional snooker and his
success inspired a rapid growth of interest in Asia. He enjoyed most his
success in the 1990s and his last significant win was the 2003 Euro-Asia
Masters invitation event in Hong Kong.
Dechawat Poomjaeng reached the last 32 of five world-ranking events
during the 2013/2104 season. Perhaps the highlight of his season was
scoring the first official 147 break of his career during a match
against Zak Surety in the German Masters qualifiers in December 2014.
Dechawat captured the imagination of the snooker public with a brilliant
run in the 2013 World Championship. He won four matches to qualify for
the Crucible for the first time. He became the seventh Thai player to
win the World Amateur Championship when he beat India’s Pankaj Advani
10-7 in the final in Damascus, Syria in 2010. He also won a bronze medal
in the Asian games in 2010.
Ken Doherty from Ireland saved his best until last during the 2013/14
season, finishing the campaign with a run to the last 16 of the World
Championship. After beating Dechawat 10-5 in the final qualifying round,
Doherty scored a 10-5 victory over Stuart Bingham, the first time he had
won a match at the Crucible since 2006. He finished the season at number
33 in the world rankings. In 2012 he made his first-ever official 147 at
the Paul Hunter Classic in Germany. At the 2011 Australian Goldfields
Open, Doherty beat Stephen Maguire, Liang Wenbo and Mark Selby to reach
the semi-finals, before his run was ended by Mark Williams.
John Higgins from Scotland had a promising start to the 2013/14 season,
winning the Bulgarian Open European Tour event in Sofia. He went on to
reach the final of the first ranking event of the campaign, the Wuxi
Classic in China. However, the rest of the campaign brought little joy
to Higgins. He did reach three consecutive ranking-event quarter finals,
at the Welsh Open, World Open and Players Championship, where he
suffered a 10-7 first round defeat against Alan McManus. Higgins won his
25th and most recent ranking title at the 2012 Shanghai Masters.
Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn, aka “Nook Sakol” from Thailand, was the
runner up in the 2013 Thailand Championship as well as being the runner
up in the Thailand 6-red championship 2014. Nook also won the 2014
Nakhon Pathom Cup and was a 2014 Asian Championship quarter-finalist.
Nook had a fantastic run at this year’s 6 reds in Bangkok to make it
through to the semi-finals and achieving the highest ranking of a Thai
player to date at the 6 Reds World Championship.
Jimmy White from England was in danger of dropping off snooker’s main
tour for much of the 2013/14 season, but rescued himself with a run to
the last 16 of the China Open. He won three matches before Mark Selby
ended his progress in Beijing. Still, he had to wait on results at The
World Championship to find out whether he would keep his tour card, and
breathed a sigh of relief when Michael Wasley lost in the last 16 at the
Crucible which meant that White finished the season ranked 64th in the
world. After three decades of trying, White finally landed a world title
in 2010, although not quite the one he wanted. He won the Seniors World
Championship, beating Steve Davis 4-1 in the final in Bradford. The
Londoner’s last major success came at the 2004 Players Championship at
the SECC in Glasgow.
