A traditional dance brightened up the press conference.

Thailand hammers Indonesia 6-nil, Rattikan wins weightlifting bronze

Incheon (NNT) - Thailand defeated Indonesia 6-0 on Monday to progress into the last-16 in the men’s football event at the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea.
With Monday’s victory, Thailand secured the top spot in the Group E leader board. So far at the Incheon Games, the team has scored 11 goals in three matches without giving up any goals. Thailand last met Indonesia at the 2013 SEA Games, where the former took a 1-0 victory as well as the SEA Games title. The team now is now slated for a clash with China in its next match.
The first goal came in the 6th minute by striker Chananan Pombuppha, after he was given the ball by Charin Chappui. Chananan then injured himself while hopping around in excitement as he celebrated the goal; he was replaced by Adisak Kraison.
Replacement striker Adisak then scored the second goal in the 16th minute after having been given the ball by right forward Nurun Siyankem. This was to be the final goal of the first half. Goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan did not have to exert himself even once during the half.
Throughout second half, Thailand continuously widened the lead, with the final goal by Adisak coming in the 90th minute.
The 6-0 victory earned Thailand three points, and sends them to the top of Group E. The team will next play China, on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Rattikan Golnoi won a bronze medal Monday, Sept. 22, in the women’s weightlifting 58kg Group A.

Tennis Thailand defeats Uzbekistan, Teakwondo players prohibited from surfing internet

Thailand’s Tamarine ‘Tammy’ Tanasugarn leads the way in tennis at the Asian Games in Korea.

Incheon (NNT) - Tamarine ‘Tammy’ Tanasugarn has led Thailand’s tennis team into the second round of Incheon Games, defeating Uzbekistan’s squad. Meanwhile, Taekwondo coach Choi Young-seok is to restrict players use of social media and the internet before their matches, so as to better focus on their training.
Thailand’s tennis ace Tamarine last weekend defeated Akgul Amanmuradova 2-0 sets, while Luksika Kumkhum was beaten 0-2 sets by Nigina Abduraimova. Thailand has already booked its place in the second round after Tammy and Noppawan Lertsheevagarn humbled Akgul and Nigina in the doubles event.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Taekwondo team left Thailand for South Korea last Saturday, well-prepared for the matches scheduled from September 30th to October 3rd.
Taekwondo head coach Choi Young-seok told the media that he had specifically instructed the players to stay off-line and focus their energy on practicing before their matches, adding that he might have to ask them to temporarily give up their mobile phones.
The much-respected Korean coach, however, said that the team members will be allowed to talk to their families but for no more than an hour a day.

Mercedes-Benz Junior Golf Championships join with White Ball Golf Academy to support junior golfers

The Mercedes-Benz Junior Golf Championships have formed a partnership with the White Ball Golf Academy to support the development of junior golfers in Thailand. The Championships are unique in that both “low scores and high grades” count towards qualification for the season ending Masters Final.
In order to support the technical skills development of junior golfers in the program, White Ball Golf Academy will undertake a series of technical assessment clinics both at their facility and at a number of the rounds in the Championship.

The clinics will be run by White Ball’s PGA Head Professional Gavin Long and his team and will focus on all key areas of shot making; drives, mid-irons, wedges, pitches, chips and putting.
The Mercedes-Benz Junior Golf Championships are divided into four age classes:
* Boys and Girls aged 12 and under
* Boys and Girls aged 14 and under
* Boys and Girls aged 17 and under
* Boys and Girls aged 23 and under
Winners in each of the age categories based on the accumulated points scored in the qualifying rounds, plus bonus points for educational grades, go on to compete in the Mercedes-Benz Asian Masters Final where they compete against the top junior golfers from around the Asia-Pacific region.
Full details of the 13th Mercedes-Benz Junior Golf Championship regulations and the entry form can be found under the sub-heading “regulations” on the golf home page.

Nongnam, Sawadee raise 20,000 for students in charity friendly

Sponsors, players and excited students gather for a group photo after the tournament.

Jetsada Homklin
Twenty Pattaya students received 1,000 baht scholarships each when the Sawadee and Nongnam football clubs met in a charity friendly in Pattaya.
Nongnam FC took the match 4-1, but Pattaya students ultimately were the winners when Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome handed out the 20,000 baht raised through the game at the Jake Huey Football Stadium Sept. 15.
Each side made the final after going 2-1 in the opening rounds. Then it was Nongnam FC sending down two players, Akarachai and Aphichet, to score two goals each for the win.
Nongnam took control of the first half, kicking the first goal after its goal keeper got the ball all the way to front line player Veeroj, who took the first shot, which missed. Akarachai quickly followed, however, to put the ball in the net.
Sawadee responded with a shift in strategy, which netted their first goal.
Nongnam center Aphichet Inthawongsa got two free kicks, both successful, rounding out scoring in the first half.
Sawadee swapped out most its side in the second half, but it was Akarachai that put in the next goal, giving Nongnam its final goal.

Karl Beter wins again

PSC Golf from Cafe Kronborg

Karl Beter & Jan Lovgreen

Monday, Sept. 15, Pleasant Valley - Stableford
Pleasant Valley was the game today up Route 7 for 43 minutes. Swift check-in and off the first tee 30 minutes early under overcast skies and muggy conditions for the whole round. The course was in good condition but very soggy with the big rain Sunday night. A golfer from another group did a bunker rake count and there were 2 on the front side and 3 on the back. So much for good bunkers.
Back in the clubhouse after a round of 4 hours and 20 minutes a welcome went out to Oddur Olafsson from Iceland.
The winner was Karl Beter with a fine 38 points. Mike Winfield was second with 34 points, whilst Oddur Olafsson came third with 32 points, and Niels Hansen fourth on a countback from Steen Habersaat both with 31 points.
1st Karl Beter (30) 38 points
2nd Mike Winfield (21) 34 points
3rd Oddur Olafsson (14) 32 points
4th Niels Hansen (13) 31 points
Thursday, Sept. 18, Bangpakong - Stableford
Bangpakong was the game today, up Route 7 in the rain most of the way for about 70 minutes. Easy check-in and off the first tee on time under overcast skies and a sprinkle or two for the round. The course was very wet but in fine condition, as there was not even a plugged ball or mud on the ball the whole round.
The course is celebrating its 24th anniversary giving a B300 green fee voucher to each golfer, good until 30 November.
Back in the clubhouse after a round of 4 hours and 30 minutes (5 balls ahead) the winner was Jan Lovgreen with a fine 40 points. Oddur Olafsson came second with 37 points and Mike Winfield third with 34 points.
1st Jan Lovgreen (17) 40 Points
2nd Oddur Olafsson (14) 27 Points
3rd Mike Winfield (21) 34 Points

Roger Ison shoots gross 72 at Green Valley

PSC golf from the Billabong Golf Bar

  Bob and Owen at Burapha.

Wednesday, Sept. 17, Green Valley - Stableford
Its not often you can see a golfer shoot gross 72 and 73 unless they are pros, but that has happened at the Billabong over the last week, with Paul Greenaway shooting 73 off his 8 handicap at Silky Oak starting with 3 birdies in a row, then Roger Ison shot 72 off his 11 handicap at Green Valley on Wednesday, a great effort lads.
With seven groups playing today, of course Roger’s 47 points would take the top spot and he brought all the players a beer in celebration. John Player marked his card and was heard to say this is boring writing down pars all the time, but he did manage to have a hick up when he double hit his ball and finished up with a double bogie on one of the holes. It makes you realize just how great his round really was.
The course is in great condition but I am still getting the grumble about how the course is laid out. I think all players would like the management to put the course back to the configuration of what it used to be regardless of the extra couple of minutes it takes that to play.
There were some good scores today with Neil Harvey taking 5th place on a count back over Bob Philp with 36 points, coming in 4th was Nitchawan Khiaophuang (Sa) with 38 points being beaten by Jonathon Pratt, also 38 points taking 3rd. Second place went to Bill Marsden with a great 40 points, and taking top spot as previously mentioned in the report was Roger Ison with 47 points. Thanks from all the golfers for the drink mate.
There were two 2s coming from J.J. Harney and Jonathon Pratt.
If you are looking for a game give Bob a call on 0822043411 or call into the bar and put your name on the sheet and enjoy a cold beer.
Friday, Sept. 19, Burapha A and B - Stableford
It was a small field full of quality today rather than quantity, playing Burapha A and B off the whites. The course is in grand condition with the greens being lightening fast, and the way the staff welcome you with a big smile is always a pleasure to be there.
It was a fast round of golf - only 3 and ¾ hours and we were in the showers. It just seemed to flow even though the course had a lot of players on it.
The scores were quite good, in saying that Capt Bob playing with a new driver which didn’t miss a fairway won the day with 38 points and he managed to get the only two of the day. Owen Walkley, one of his playing partners, got the second spot with 36 points and the scores went down hill from there.
It was extremely hot but no rain threatened us so all in all a great day out.

Don Everett bows out with a win

IPGC golf from The Haven

Bruce Hilde, Don Everett & Phil Groves

Monday, September 15, Eastern Star - Stableford
CSS 72
1st Don Everett (19) 40
2nd Kevin Townsend (12) 34
3rd John Carlin (18) 33 cb 17
A return to the “Burma Road of Pattaya”, as some players view the Robert Trent Jones Jnr. designed course in Banchang, is always a challenge not least due to the length and the proximity of the out of bounds on many holes. But on this occasion the winning score was well above the average scored by non members generally, being six shots better than the second place.
Don Everett obviously saved the best for last as he played his final game in Pattaya before returning to Oz for a well deserved period of R & R. His evenly spaced two under handicap on each of the nines proved to be easily the best of the day and even with the CSS for the day remaining at 72; it earned him a two stroke cut in handicap for his return. Seven three pointers were the basis of his best round for a couple of months. A very creditable result from such a difficult test.
Next best in second spot was Kevin Townsend whose slow start took him out of contention early in the day but a much stronger back nine ensured his position on the podium just ahead of the count back for third. That count back was won by John Carlin with a better 17 to 16 from Shuichi Kodaka who is still managing to compete having lost four shots over the last three weeks.
Trevor Schirmer, back in the driving seat but not quite firing on all cylinders, took fifth a couple of points in front of the week’s most consistent performer Bruce Hilde in sixth.
There were no 2’s in either of the divisions.
Before the presentations were made there were welcome backs for Benny Hansen and Vincent Gras, who had left for the airport the previous week, but unfortunately missed the plane forcing him to endure yet another few days of golf in the Kingdom. There was also a farewell for Don Everett who was leaving earlier than Vincent to ensure he caught his flight to Perth for his well earned rest.
Wednesday,
September 17, Green Valley - Stableford
CSS 72
1st Phil Groves (10) 38
2nd John Carlin (18) 34 cb 20
3rd Trevor Schirmer (14) 34 cb 16
Another day at Green Valley where, as is now usual, the group teed off some fifty minutes early as many earlier reserved tee times failed to show up to play. The group started the first hole teeing off from the old positioned placement on the far left of the hole and whilst that position takes the water out of play directly forward of the tee, it is a more difficult shot to hold up the hill and against the run off into the trees, plus having the advantage of playing the hole as it was originally designed.
Phil Groves came back to form with his first win following his return from Australia with a solid two under handicap return that was good by four for the top step.
John Carlin again showed strongly as he took second spot after a count back with Trevor Schirmer, winning it with a better 20 to 16 when he had missed out on two holes on the front and Trevor faded over the last nine.
Terry Hodgkiss took fourth place ahead of Bruce Hilde in fifth.
Once again there were no 2’s in the second division but Phil Groves took the first division together with the roll over with the sole one in the first division.
Prior to the presentations there was a welcome back for Mike Hill who had been visiting the far north on a ranch and stock inspection trip which involved a bit of personal Picasso work on some of the cows, a London version of cattle branding minus the lassoing.
Friday, September 19, Bangpra - Stableford
CSS 75 NC
1st Bruce Hilde (17) 32
2nd Jon Yarrow (16) 30 cb 17 b6 13
3rd Hal Hart (21) 30 cb 17 b6 12
The trips out to Bangpra are always looked on with some trepidation by most of the hopefuls and on this visit, with the results and subsequent movement of the CSS out to 75, and the day becoming a non counting one for handicap purposes, many of their fears were confirmed. With the greens at their fiercest, especially for putts from above the hole, even the great condition of the course could not stop the day’s scores spiraling upwards.
Following his two earlier appearances on the podium during the week, Bruce Hilde finally made it to the top step. But it required a decision on the rules for the second time in the week to determine that he remained in the day’s competition after insisting, against all advice to the contrary, on using another player’s wedge to chip to one of the greens, and thereby having fifteen clubs at his disposal. Fortunately for Bruce he only used the club once, incurring a two stroke penalty on the hole, and a subsequent zero point return. This had been the second time in the week that he had collected a two shot penalty after putting with the flag in earlier, which had on that occasion cost him some places. But even with the penalty his score was good enough by two to be declared the winner, but with yet another lesson learned.
Jon Yarrow took second place after he had won a count back on the back six with a better 13 to 12 after tying the nine on 17 apiece with Hal Hart. This left Hal in third, but pleased to be once again among the podium placements.
Phil Groves did enough to take fourth ahead of Kevin Townsend in fifth after the latter had also won a count back with Shuichi Kodaka by 13 to 11.
Shuichi Kodaka dropped in the only 2 in the first division whilst John Carlin did the same in the second division.
Back at The Haven there was a welcome back for Fred Smith and a real and second farewell for Vincent Gras as he had actually caught the plane this week earlier in the day.
Note: If you would like to play with The Haven group, you can contact mobile 094 567 5726 or call in to The Haven Hotel, at 185 Soi 13, between Beach Road and 2nd Road. All transportation to the course is arranged and you do not need to sign up prior to the day, but you should be there by 8.15 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on the days that you wish to play. A schedule of courses to be played can be found on our web site at www.thehaven-hotel.com

Paul Smith edges Mike Allidi for low gross honours

PSC 136th Monthly Golf Tournament

Flight winners.

Nigel Cannon
Photos by Peter Blackburn

Friday, September 19, Greenwood Golf Course
There were 113 members signed up for today’s tournament at Greenwood - which was presented in fine condition. There were 2 no-shows, leaving 111 - a phone call to the office is all that is required. Checking in was swift, with the Greenwood office staff being most helpful, together with sunny weather all was set for a fine golfing day.

50 - 50 winner - Panomporn.
With Golf Chairman Mark being unwell it was down to the international team of Dick Warberg, Peter Blackburn, Andre Van Dyk, Tom Herrington and Nigel Cannon to take care of registration - marking the technical holes, and acting as starters on both the 1st and 10th tees. As the players returned in a little over 4 hours it was Peter and Nigel who checked the cards and calculated the results.
The low gross winner was Paul Smith (4) with a score of 75 gross winning on count-back from Mike Allidi.
Recently returned from Australia it was Bob Watson (4) winning ‘A’ Flight, playing stroke play from the white tees, with 73 net on count-back from Mike Allidi.
‘B’ Flight also from the white tees, but playing Stableford, saw regular monthly player Bryan Neal (14) take top spot with 40 points.
In ‘C’ Flight, from the yellow tees, with 42 points, the best Stableford of the day, it was Christian Boysen (17) who took the honours.

B Flight winner - Bryan Neal.
Clive Mullins (26) secured ‘D’ Flight with a fine 41 points.
The Seniors were joined with the Ladies today but it was the Ladies who showed the way with (Oy) Suphattra Dulkys (25) scoring an excellent 39 points with PSC Lady Champion Yui Bietry (8) runner-up with 33 points.
This month the presentation and prize giving was at Shenanigans in Jomtien with great freshly cooked food by Dave of the Sportsman and excellent service provided by the Shenanigans’ staff. Those who attended, which was fewer than was hoped, had an enjoyable evening which was over by 8 p.m.
Golf Chairman Mark West had recovered enough be at the presentation and following introduction by Nigel, Mark expressed his appreciation to today’s players and the team at the course, Dick, Peter, Andre, Tom and Nigel for taking care of the administration and to Noi Emmerson for the selling of the 50/50 lucky tickets. He also commented on the excellent work that happens before the day by Mai and PSC office staff - it does make running the day much easier.
Mark went on to inform members of the current situation reading the voucher arrangements PSC had made with a number of courses.

D Flight winner - Clive Mullins.
Nigel then announced the winners and Mark presented the prizes. This month there was an extra long putt prize - donated by Tip Briney to celebrate his 68th birthday and won by Larry Deverdenne - who promptly returned his winning back to PSC. This was followed by the lucky draw. It was time for the 50/50 draw which this month had additional prizes with 4 x 1000 baht vouchers kindly donated by Mark of Shenanigans and 2 x 1000 baht vouchers kindly donated by Freddy Starbeck for his new restaurant D’ablo. The final ticket for the 50/50 was won by a very happy Thai lady Panomporn.
Important! Note the next PSC Monthly is on Wednesday 22nd October at Treasure Hill -with the first tee time at 0900 and the presentation is at Lewiinski’s.
Sign up early!

Greenwood Hole B9 - Green.

Greenwood Hole C3 - Green.

Watson and Poussier tame soggy Bangpra

PSC Golf from Tropical Bert’s

Flight winners Bob Watson and Patrick Poussier with one of Bert’s finest.

Derek Brook
Tuesday, September 16, Bangpra - Stableford
The peace and quiet of Bert’s on a Tuesday morning was shattered as the ‘Boys’ returned from where ever they had been. You know sometimes it is nice just not to make out the start sheet and for the few to know who they are playing with without me having to resort to actually thinking.
However, as I entered Bert’s, there they all were including some who had come in at the last minute. Never mind in all honesty it was nice to see the list full and their holiday from a holiday played out. It was also good to smell the breakfast and coffee as many ate Bert’s brekkers and drank the coffee.
Arriving at Bangpra it was not surprising to see the ground soaking wet and some of the bunkers had water in them. So with carts not allowed off the path we played PSC rules. We were off a little early, and with the first three groups being 3 balls a gap soon developed ahead of us as we were the first 4 ball. Still we got around in good time.
The Course was wet and in some places very wet. Still, the weather was fine and all the players thoroughly enjoyed their day out. Soon back, a nice cool shower and up to the restaurant saw many of the players enjoying the food. Then it was into cars and back to Bert’s.
One of the things I usually find is that when the going gets tough, the good golfers perform better than the higher handicappers, and so it proved on this day. With the scribe slowly sinking in the West as a golfer, the B Flight is most comforting.
So in the A Flight, 0 to 18, the winner was Bob Watson with 39 points - that meant a gross 73. Great round in very trying conditions. In second was Brian Parish with 36 points and in third was Max Scott with 35 points.
So to the needy, the B Flight, and here the scores were most modest. I really am glad to say, I do like the B Flight. So the winner in the B Flight was Patrick Poussier with 34 points ahead of Derek Brook in second with a magnificent 29 points and Nigel Perry in third with 28 points.
Near Pins: Mike O’Brien, Max Scott, Mashi Kaneta, and Brian Parish.

Colin Greig KPK Foods sponsored tourney at Plutaluang

PSC Golf with Bunker Boys @ The Ranch

Colin Greig receives the KPK voucher from The Ranch girls.

Monday, September 15, Pleasant Valley G.C. - Stableford
We haven’t played at Pleasant Valley for a few months, and it’s fair to say it isn’t the most popular venue with several members. But with the current green fee at 650 baht (with the PSC voucher) we decided it was worthwhile to pay another visit.
The morning was overcast but fine, and unsurprisingly it was a smaller turnout of golfers that assembled at The Ranch, but we set off in good spirits. The course was empty when we arrived, but we were fortunate to get away before a group of Thai golfers who eventually ended the round several holes behind our final group.
There had been heavy rain overnight, and buggies were confined to the cart paths so we elected to play pick, clean and place on the fairways, which proved to be a wise decision. Apart from a few pools of standing water the fairways were in good condition and the greens were also in good shape, if a little bobbly in places.
The leading group didn’t encounter any other golfers ahead of them throughout the round and were back in the clubhouse in double-quick time. We played from the blue tees and several of the par 4’s play very long when there’s almost no run on the fairways, but generally the scores were good, with Colin Greig taking first place on 36 points, one point ahead of Geoff Parker and Dave Ashman who had to be separated on a count back for second place.
The general consensus after the round was that the course is in good condition and offers better value for money than several other local venues at the moment, and was well worth the visit.
1st Colin Greig (hcp. 7) 36 points
2nd Geoff Parker (hcp. 15) 35 points
3rd Dave Ashman (hcp. 15) 35 points
Near Pins: Colin Greig, Dave Ashman, Geoff Parker, and Steve Durey.
Wednesday,
September 17, Burapha G.C.
(A and B courses) - Stableford
Burapha has understandably been a popular venue for local golfers with the current low season rates, and when we arrived at the car park, it once again appeared to be busy. However, when we assembled on the first tee, we were able to tee off a few minutes early with no other golfers in sight ahead of us.
We normally play the A and B courses here off the blue tees (6,733 yards), but today we decided to play off the shorter white tees (6,218 yards), in deference to passionate requests made by some of the higher handicap golfers.
The sky was overcast and the fairways and greens were in excellent condition, so everything looked perfect for another great day’s golf.
The first few holes were completed smoothly until the leading group caught up with a group of Korean golfers on the 4th hole, and they appeared to be oblivious to anyone behind them, as they took an eternity to putt out on each hole. Fortunately, the Korean golfers disappeared after the 9th hole (otherwise we wouldn’t have finished before dark!) and the inward nine was completely clear, so we were still able to complete the round in four hours.
Peter Habgood had made a habit of winning our medal competitions earlier in the year, but his golf has been in the doldrums recently, so it was a welcome surprise to see him come romping home six points clear of the field, securing his first win in four months (maybe that was why he wanted to play off the shorter tees).
Ken Young and Geoff Parker had to be separated on a count back for second place, with Geoff this time being the unlucky golfer to miss out. The highlight of Ken’s round was on the tricky par three 8th hole on the B nine, when crafty use of his driver on this 155 yard hole (a ploy which we’re sure he learned from his mate Neil Griffin), put his ball within four feet of the pin, only to see him miss the birdie putt.
1st Peter Habgood (hcp. 19) 38 points
2nd Ken Young (hcp. 26) 32 points
3rd Geoff Parker (hcp. 15) 32 points
Near Pins: Colin Greig, John Graham, Ken Young and Peter Habgood.
Friday, August 19, Plutaluang (Navy) G.C. (East and South courses) - Stableford - Sponsored by KPK Foods
When we arrived at the Navy course today the clubhouse was heaving with golfers and caddies, as preparations for a Navy tournament were underway. The tournament was scheduled for the West and North courses so we were allocated to play the East and South nines which we haven’t played for quite some time.
We teed off on schedule in bright, sunny conditions, but it was soon obvious that the pace of play was going to be slow, as our first group arrived at the 2nd tee to find two groups already waiting there. The outward nine was played at a snail’s pace but fortunately the groups ahead disappeared after nine holes and we were able to complete the inward nine in good time.
The lack of familiarity with the course or the grainy greens might account for the disappointing scores on the day, which ended with Colin Greig and Geoff Cox being tied on 33 points, with Colin being awarded first place on the count back. Dave Ashman took third place with 31 points and no other golfer broke the thirty point barrier, so maybe we’d better start playing these two nines more often.
Resident Scotsman and pro-unionist, Colin Greig, was presented with the KPK Foods voucher back at The Ranch and generously bought a round of beers to celebrate the results of the Scottish referendum.
1st Colin Greig (hcp. 7) 33 points
2nd Geoff Cox (hcp. 14) 33 points
3rd Dave Ashman (hcp. 15) 31 points
Only 3 near pins were claimed: Colin Greig, Geoff Cox and John Graham,
Note: The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society, who now play out of The Ranch bar on Pattaya 3rd Road (in front of the fire station, and almost opposite the Buffalo Bar). We play three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but competitive golf competition why not come and join us. We meet at The Ranch at 9 a.m. for breakfast and transportation, and new players are always welcome. Contact “Buff” on 086 046 5091 or 080 605 5663 for all enquiries. You can find all the news, schedules and results on our website at http://www.bunkersociety.com.

Willem & Trev Stars of the East

PSC Golf from Siam Country Resort

Near the pin winner K with Mam.

Tuesday saw the group visit Eastern Star, under clear skies, with the course in generally good order, with a small number of greens having some patches replaced. The gents played from the white tees at a testing 6500+ yards, providing a good test for all.
Despite the good golfing conditions, scores were modest, with golfers having difficulty putting 2 good 9s together. Willem Lasonder (18) & Trevor Taylor (34) led the way with 31 points, Willem getting the nod after signing for 19 points on the back 9 to Trev’s 16. NTPs went to K, Jonathan & Jeff with 2.
Thursday saw a small field play Greenwood, with the C & B combination the allocated test of the day. The weather was terrible, with the rain starting after a few holes, and continuing through most of the day, before abating with only 2 or 3 holes to go. The course was very wet tee to green, with the greens holding up very well, considering the amount of rain falling. No competition was completed due to ongoing withdrawals as the poor weather continued.
Friday was the PSC tournament at Greenwood, and the conditions could not have been more different, as we had clear skies, and the course had dried out considerably. Willem got edged from the prizes on a countback in C flight, while Jeff scored a NTP in A Flight, but Jim & Willem did not go home empty handed, as both scored a lucky draw.
Siam Country Resort, Restaurant & Bar is located just off Siam Country Club Rd, after going under the arch past the 7/11, turn right after 50 metres, with the venue on the left another 200 metres along. Golf from here is generally played on Tuesday & Thursday, with the resort hosting prompt presentations on both days. As a PSC affiliated venue we welcome all golfers, including ladies & seniors (>60s) who have opted for the “Silver” tee option. Call 0890941841 for scheduling or enquiries.

Davis & Neal get the chocolates at Pattaya CC

PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Dave Neal, Brad Todd & John Davies.

Peter Blackburn
Monday, September 15, Pattaya Country Club - Stableford
After a week of golfing in Hua Hin I must say it was good to be back in Pattaya with the Growling Swan crew, although it was a very enjoyable trip away. It was time to return to Pattaya Country Club to see how the course was progressing and we had 19 golfers signed up to make the short journey to the course.
As we assembled at The Growling Swan welcomes were handed out to Brad “Bad” Todd from Perth, Western Australia and John Coombs & Ron Grafton from Mandurah, also in Western Australia. Everyone was on time which enabled us to depart the GS 5 minutes early at 8.25 a.m. and after a 25 minute drive we arrived at the course where we had plenty of time to prepare and relax as our allocated tee time was 10.24 a.m.

Andrew Allen & Graham Rice.

We made our way to the first tee and after waiting for a few groups to tee off we got our first group, a three ball, away 46 minutes ahead of schedule at 9.38 am. The weather was fine but overcast with a nice breeze and although a few specks of rain were felt early on we had a completely dry round.
The course was in very good shape and the back nine, which was a bit ordinary a couple of months ago is now coming along very nicely and a pleasure to play. Being a three ball we had to wait several times which slowed things down a bit, but all in all it was a very enjoyable round of golf which took four hours & fifteen minutes.
We had 2 divisions - Division A for handicaps 0 to 14 & Division B for golfers on handicaps of 15 and over, with three places in each division. There were also rewards for nearest the pin on two of the par threes and longest first putts on the 9th & 18th greens.
One of my fellow golfers in Hua Hin, John Davis, was the winner in A Division with a steady 36 points, one point ahead of your writer, Peter “Blacky” Blackburn in second place, with Kevin “Wayco” Waycott finishing third with 33 points.
In B Division it was Dave Neal who easily won with 39 points. With 3 golfers on 33 points a count back was required to determine second & third places. The result was Thientong Charoenrung (17 point back nine) finishing second from the colourful Walter Baechli (16 point back nine) in third spot with John Anderson (15 point back nine) just missing out.
Division A - 0 to 14
1st John Davis (14) - 36 points
2nd Peter Blackburn (13) - 35 points
3rd Kevin Waycott (7) - 33 points
Division B - 15 and over
1st Dave Neal (25) - 39 points
2nd Thientong Charoenrung (18) - 33 points
3rd Walter Baechli (16) - 33 points
Near pins: 5th Thientong Charoenrung & 12th Nolan Wise
Longest first putts: 9th Mike Gosden & 18th Ron Grafton
The Growling Swan NAGA Award (awarded to the golfer who has the worst score on the day and discreetly their score is not made public) was won by Brad Todd and he accepted the award like the good sport that he is and wore the red cap in the bar for a while afterwards. Geri then kindly paraded Deefa the Dog and of course collected many donations for the needy in Pattaya from our generous Growling Swan Golfers. Back at the bar afterwards there was plenty of humorous chatter and we were subjected several times to Geri Crilly’s “blow by blow” account of his three for five on Hole No. 17. Another excellent day out with good company on a fine golf course.
Note: Growling Swan Golf, the home of friendly golf in Pattaya welcomes golfers of any persuasion - low & high handicappers alike, female golfers and beginners. We generally play Mondays & Thursdays, meeting at The Growling Swan in Soi Chaiyapoon at 8.00 a.m. with transport departing at 8.30 a.m. For bookings or more information please contact Peter on 0806 351 386 or email to [email protected]
We also play bowls out of the Growling Swan every Wednesday and Sunday. Sunday is Lawn Bowls and Wednesday is Indoor Bowls. All are welcome and for anyone that is interested the transport leaves The Growling Swan at 10.00 a.m. on each of those mornings. For more information please contact Paul Rennison on 0843 454 005.
Thursday,
September 18, Burapha, A & B - Stableford
It was a very overcast morning as we made our way to the Growling Swan in readiness for the journey to the Burapha Golf Course. As we gathered there the rain started to fall but as usual we were confident of a game of golf at one of Pattaya’s finest venues.
We had 24 on the starting sheet but this number was reduced by one when a certain person who drives himself to the golf courses went to Bangpra instead of Burapha, and I am not going to mention who it was except that his initials are J J Harney.
We welcomed Graham Rice from Gove in the Northern Territory of Australia and sadly said farewell to good friend Dave Neal who will shortly return to the UK and his lady Thientong. All were punctual so we were able to depart the GS 2 minutes early at 8.28 a.m. and as we headed off up number 7 the rain became very heavy. By the time we arrived at the course 33 minutes later it was “bucketing it down”. There were a few “water babies” who declared that we wouldn’t be able to play but those of us that know better just sat around quietly for twenty minutes or so and lo and behold, the rain stopped and it was all systems go.
We changed and then checked in at reception before proceeding to the assembly area where we were informed that we would be playing the A & B nines, much to the delight of several of us. There was plenty of time as the rain had put everyone in front of us behind and we were able to send our first four ball away 12 minutes behind schedule at 10.10 a.m. It was still overcast but fine and we knew that we wouldn’t see much sun all day but we were playing golf and the course was as usual in great condition with the greens beautifully prepared and quite slick having drained very quickly after the downpour. We proceeded at a reasonable pace with very few hold ups ahead and a very enjoyable round of golf was completed in just over four hours & ten minutes.
We had 2 divisions - Division A for handicaps 0 to 19 & Division B for golfers on handicaps of 20 and over, with three places in each division. There were also rewards for nearest the pin on the four par threes and longest first putts on the A9 & B9 greens.
The visiting Graham Rice was the winner in A Division with a steady 36 points and John Coombs from Mandurah Country Club in Western Australia came second with 35 points. There were three golfers on 34 points vying for third place and it was veteran Ken Hole (16 point back nine) who prevailed over John Davis (15 point back nine) and Thientong Charoenrung (15 point back nine).
In Division B the winner was Andrew “Turtle” Allen with a fine 38 points, 3 points ahead of Geri “Birdy” Crilly in second spot and Sandy “Cindy Lauper” Leiper finished third with 32 points.
Division A - 0 to 19
1st - Graham Rice (13) - 36 points
2nd - John Coombs (12) - 35 points
3rd - Ken Hole (14) - 34 points
Division B - 20 and over
1st - Andrew Allen (33) - 38 points
2nd - Geri Crilly (25) - 35 points
3rd - Sandy Leiper (34) - 32 points
Near pins: A3 - Graham Rice, A6 - Ron Grafton, B3 - Ken Hole, and B8 - Alain Taddei.
Longest first putts: A9 - Graham Buckingham and B9 - Ron Pierrel.
The Growling Swan NAGA Award (awarded to the golfer who has the worst score on the day and discreetly their score is not made public) was won by Growling Swan Mine Host Peter Grey and he accepted the award like the good sport that he is. Andrew then kindly paraded Deefa the Dog and of course collected many donations for the needy in Pattaya from our generous Growling Swan golfers. It was then back to the bar for several Aussie cold, low priced drinks and many stories of what could have been on the day. Another good day’s golf on a terrific golf course.

Silky Oak debut win for Bolger

IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at the Elephant Bar

Winner Gary Bolger with runners up Rob Lamond, Wichai and Charlie Landrebe.

Friday, September 19, Silky Oak - Stableford
The Pattaya Golf Society visited the oft maligned course at Silky Oak on Friday, 19th September to play a Stableford competition on a well grassed track with bunkers in fine condition and greens running just a little slower than elsewhere. The course was also empty, making progress swift.
Many in the field had not played the course before and thus scores were moderate. Taking a share of second place were Wichai, Rob Lamond and Charlie Landrebe, all finishing on 33 points whilst course newbie Gary Bolger took the win with 36 points.
There were two birdie twos on the fourteenth hole with Kevin Pross and Gary Bolger sharing the bonus pool.
Back at the Elephant Bar in Soi Buakaow, Dave Robinson won the non-winner’s beer draw whilst Masashi Iizumi, on his last round this trip, savoured the Booby Bevy for the longest drive of the day, a journey to Green Valley via Khao Mai Khao and Emerald.
Most golfers visit Ban Chang after golf, allegedly, not before! Silky Oak was a good choice and more golfers are seeing it as an interesting track on which to play competition golf.
Monday, September 15, Mt Shadow - Stableford
On Monday 15 September the Pattaya Golf Society took four groups to Mt Shadow to compete in a Stableford competition. Despite much recent rain, the course was well-presented with fairways offering good lies. Notwithstanding that carts were permitted on fairways, the amount of pooling indicating overnight rain convinced us to allow preferred lies.
Bunkers and greens were also well-presented, if a little wet, with approach shots often stopping in their own pitch-marks. Even so, the course remained very playable and at a green-fee/caddie-fee of 1050B, it remains very good value for money.
Twos were recorded on the 8th by Bryan Brown and the 15th by Tony Campbell.
The podium was a tight affair, with only one shot separating all three place getters. Joint winner, Murray Edwards, appears to have benefitted by doing away with his near-daily visit to the driving range, whilst fellow first place getter, Masashi Iizumi, was due a good one after a recent drop in form. Mr Consistency, Jon Batty, continues his fine form of late.
Back at the Elephant Bar Mr Len drew Ian Wilson’s card out for the lucky beer draw, whilst it was noted that the Booby Bevy would go unrewarded. Mr David, golfing organiser for the day, believed nothing occurred that warranted such a revered prize, including his modest 25 points - the lowest of the day!
T1st: Masashi Iizumi (20) 34 points.
T1st: Murray Edwards (22) 34 points.
3rd: Jon Batty (9) 33 points.
Wednesday,
September 17,
Khao Kheow - Stableford
The Pattaya Golf Society took a large group of golfers to Khao Kheow on Wednesday, 17th September to play a Stableford competition on the C and A nines which were expected to be in good condition. Indeed, two weeks ago there was no finer place to be, but the recent rains have taken their toll and on the A nine in particular there were many unmarked areas on the fairway which anywhere else would be considered GUR. Khao Kheow must be out of white paint, however, and problems were caused by not being told before we teed off.
Nevertheless, the PGS are an adaptable bunch and everyone made the best of a bad job. Sharing second place with very good scores of 35 points were Andrew Purdie and the returning Rob Lamond, for whom memories of bad health and injuries must be fast disappearing after this display. The winner was the in-form English golfer Jon Batty and he battled well to overcome the state of the course to post an impressive score of level par 36 points.
Greg Gawron recorded the only birdie two of the day, on A5, and the non-winners beer draw went to Wichai Tananusorn. Willie Barbour had one of those days we al have from time to time and his golf merited his first Booby Bevy in a while. Enjoy the occasion Willie, it’s someone else’s turn next time!
Finally a plea to Khao Kheow, we all know heavy rains can wash away GUR markings but do you have any other signs or markers? It would help immensely ...really.

Monkeys messing around with distance markers

Travellers Rest Golf Group

Robert Cannon winner at Bangpra.

Andy Rich
Scotland, the home of golf, has been in the news this week when they voted not to dip their toe into the sea of independence. Most people who have ever dipped their toe or any of their other parts into the North Sea probably fairly quickly decided it was not a good idea to immerse themselves completely.
Far better to sit beside the fire and down a wee dram or two of the amber nectar. Mind you, I know a few Scotsman in Pattaya who were not enamoured by the outcome, but I guess only time will tell if it was the right decision.

John Baxter winner at Laem Chabang.
The only decision the patrons of the TRGG had to make this week was whether to take on the monkeys at Bangpra on Monday, the water at Laem Chabang on Wednesday or the out of bounds at Emerald on Friday. Some bravehearts did all three.
Monday, September 15, Bangpra - Stableford
On Monday 15th September it was off to Bangpra and it must have been playing tough on the day because only the winner, Bob Cannon, came anywhere near playing to his handicap with a final score of 35 pts. Bob, however, is armed with a distance calculator so he could be certain of the exact distance to the flag. As I have mentioned previously I am of the opinion that the monkeys have messed around with all the distance markers and that is why so many good golfers come up short of the target.
Jim McNeill, who came second and Ito Akitoshi in third only just crept over 30 pts.
1st Robert Cannon (18) 35 pts
2nd Jim McNeill (15) 31 pts
3rd Ito Akitoshi (7) 30 pts
Wednesday, September 17, Laem Chabang - Stableford
Wednesday 17th September was the turn of Laem Chabang to host the TRGG and an increase in turnout suffered the same fate as Monday’s participants with good scores hard to come by.

Fergus Brennan winner at Emerald.
John Baxter with 35 pts managed to head the field with Bob Cannon and his distance marker in second and David Booth, the most relaxed man in Pattaya despite losing out to Bob on count back, in third place.
1st John Baxter (15) 35 pts
2nd Robert Cannon (18) 33 pts
3rd David Booth (14) 33 pts
Friday, September 19, Emerald - Stableford
After the Bob Watson show of the previous Friday, this Friday 19th September we had the Fergus Brennan Show at Emerald. Now respect where it is due, Fergus has suffered some terrible health issues over the last few months which he may have told us about on the odd occasion, but on the day he put all his ailments to one side and smashed 40 pts round Emerald. Whilst us other mere mortals were struggling to put a decent score together Fergus was skipping around making it all look very easy. Good to see the smile back on your face Fergus now go and lie down, you don’t want to over exert yourself.
Scotsman Alan Murray voted himself into second place with a very respectable 36 pts and Ito Akitoshi from the land of the rising sun outshone all the rest by making it into third place.
1st Fergus Brennan (14) 40 pts
2nd Alan Murray (14) 36 pts
3rd Ito Akitoshi (8) 34 pts
Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG please phone Fergus Brennan on (0860567019) or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.

Geoff Stimpson wins Outback Decanter

PSC Golf from the Outback Golf Bar

Geoff [left] the overall winner with the Sugarman
[Runner-Up].

Monday, September 15, Burapha - Day 2 of The Decanter
There were 35 players continuing on from the first round on Friday at Green Valley in the Outback 7th Anniversary 36 hole tournament. They were joined here at Burapha on the A & B nines by another seven, leaving us with a field here today, after one ‘no show’, of 41. To keep it friendly, we played from the white tees with the benefit of a two tee start; the course was in excellent condition, particularly the greens but the fairways were a bit soggy in places so ‘winter rules’ were in operation. Of those seven who joined us today, we say welcome back to Abe Gurman, John Mills and Jim Graham.
In a move away from the usual format, General Jack mixed up the players instead of the leaders going out last, so that no-one would really know who had won until presentation later in the day; he knew he hadn’t as the beer and tiredness caught up with him on his 17th hole, where he recorded a ‘nine’ after putting two in the water and the third only got over the water by bouncing on the bridge!
The daily Stableford comp today was split into three divisions, with Div A being won by J P Maffray [40pts] from Geoff Stimpson [39], Murray Hart [38] and Peter Nixon 37. Sugar Ray won Div B, also with 39pts from John Lawton [37], who beat Andy Stewart on countback, with Kim Danboise getting the nod over Harry Vincenzi, both on 35.
In spite of Jack’s ‘9’ he still mustered 35pts, losing out on c/b in Div C to Bob Mattes, who had been playing in the group immediately in front of Jack & John Lawton, leaving them a beer each at every drink-stop - now I know why Bob, but thanks anyway. Third and fourth places went to Martin O’Neill [[34] and Barry McInstosh [33].
The 2 day cut from Friday was made at 75, resulting in 17 players in the ‘plate’ Stableford comp and the same number in the main medal comp. After the scores were converted to points; Martin Kingswood found himself to be the leader with 35pts from Bob Lindborg on 34; however, JP’s 40pts today was enough to give him a 2 day total of 70pts, putting him in a share of first place with Martin, who shot another 35 today.
The overall winner turned out to be the consistent Geoff Stimpson on a total of 139 [5 under] playing off a handicap of 8, winning by three from the Sugarman & Andy Stewart on 142. Jack had to be content with a three way share of fourth with John Lawton and Bob Mattes, all on 143.
After the presentation and a superb spread of complimentary Outback food, the live music from the “Band of Smiles” started and they were absolutely brilliant, with the players and guests rising to their talents with an increasing applause. They [the band] were enjoying an ample flow of amber nectar as they played on into the night non-stop for an incredible four hours! These boys will be back!
There were nine 2’s from Kerry Beck, Murray Hart, Jean P Maffray, Dennis Pelly, Geoff Stimpson [A3], John O’Keefe [A6], Suzi Lawton & Bob Lindborg [B3] and Andy Stewart [B8].
Div A [0 - 13]
1st Maffray, Jean P 40 pts (11)
2nd Stimpson, Geoff 39 pts (08)
3rd Hart, Murray 38 pts (12)
Div B [14 - 18]
1st Handford, Sugar Ray 39 pts (18)
2nd Lawton, John 37 pts (18)

2nd Kingswood, Martin 35 35 70
3rd O’Neill, Martin 32 34 66

2nd = Stewart, Andy 71 71 142
Wednesday, September 17, Laem Chabang - Stableford
A very quiet Laem Chabang hosted the 19 Outbackers today, so much so that they were trying to get us to tee off almost 40 minutes ahead of our allotted tee time. It is a shame the routine start seems to be always on C which is about as tough as it gets for any golf course. A comes before C and B comes before C; it is quite a known fact that this course was designed by “Jack” to have the C loop as the back nine. We will have a chat with the management but I don’t really expect them to listen, but you never know. One only has to look at the scores in each of the opening holes to see that the opening four holes are spoiling many a card.
Nevertheless, this is still a class course in great condition. Oh how I wish we could get a sensible rate to play here in the high season, for sure we would be here.
Ron Dickie flew back to work today without having the time to pick-up his first prize for his top score of the day 36pts. That was enough to turn the tables on playing partner, Brad [35] who beat Ron last week, with a new guy to the Outback, Frenchman Thierry Petrement in third, on 34.
Div B was won by a surprised John Mills, on a visit from Aus with just 33pts from Greg Hill [32] and another Frenchman, Thierry Temime with 32.
There were two ‘2’s from Thierry Petrement [B5] & Mike Missler [B8].
Div A [0 - 16]
1st Dickie, Ron 36 pts (07)
2nd Jordison, Brad 35 pts (05)
3rd Petrement, Thierry 34 pts (12)
Div B [17+]
1st Mills, John 33 pts (18)
2nd Hill, Greg 32 pts (17)
3rd Temime, Thierry 32 pts (21)
Friday, September 19, St Andrews - Stableford
Our seven groups were moved over to St Andrews today as Green Valley was having a competition. It was a good turnout, considering that we were not playing at our normal venue.
The course was in much better condition than in the past with a lot of new work going on, which includes cutting down trees on the first so that the green is in full sun, making a mini car park just before you tee off on the first so it is less congested, putting new sand in the bunkers making them more playable and user friendly; as if a bunker can be user friendly? Also the greens had vastly improved and were running a little bit slick if you had a downhill putt. Well done St Andrews team, keep up the good work.
All in all it was a pleasant day to play golf and generally there were many comments of approval. The scoring was quite good with Geoff Stimpson, hot from his Decanter win on Monday, picking up the reins again where he left off, to record another win with 39pts ahead of Paul Greenaway and Brad Jordison on 36. Peter Nixon filled the remaining podium place in Div A with 35.
Even with a dreaded ‘R’ against my handicap, I was still able to win Div B with 36pts from Bob Mattes in second [35] and took great delight in beating my husband, who could only manage 33; fourth was Barry McIntosh [32].
There were four ‘2’s from Dennis Pelly [3rd], Jim Brackett & Geoff Stimpson [5th] and Peter Nixon [10th].
Div A [0 - 16]
1st Stimpson, Geoff 39 pts (08)
2nd Greenaway, Paul 36 pts (08)
3rd Jordison, Brad 36 pts (05)
Div B [17+]
1st Lawton, Suzi 36 pts (25)
2nd Mattes, Bob 35 pts (23)
3rd Lawton, John 33 pts (18)

PSC Golf from Lewiinski’s Golf Society

Aiden Murray - medal winner.

Near pins: No5Thierry Temime No 8 Jim Brackett No 12 Bill Peach No 16 Bob Watson
Aiden Murray was well contested to the very end, having to rely on count back to edge A Flight’s inform golfer Christian Boysen, both on net 70, to win the monthly medal for September 2014. The victory qualifies Aiden for entry in to the Lewiinski’s Wall of Fame as with every monthly medal winner, he also qualifies himself for the year end Gold medal competition held after the December medal winner is determined. Aiden also won the lead crystal cut whiskey glass and a bottle of Jameson’s Irish whiskey.
Jim Elphick and Akikmoto Yamamoto were both a shot adrift with Jim getting the nod in the count back. Because it was a rather large turnout, a fourth podium spot was added, which Nicoulas Fauroux was very grateful for, with his even par round.
Christian’s gallant effort filled the top spot in A Flight. Four players were log jammed on net 71, and when the divots had settled ‘Jimmy two shots’ Elphick emerged out on top, with Aussie star Bob Watson picking up the bronze. As Ireland’s Tom Byrne rounded out the flight, Big Dave Stockman was left at sea level and pot less.
Nicoulas Fauroux, Bill Peach and Colin Davis shared a very healthy 2’s pot.
Back at Lewiinski’s and after the presentation Aiden very kindly shared his bottle of Jameson’s with his new found friends.

2nd Aiden Murray (17) 32 pts
Freddy ‘the quiet one’ Starbeck was man-of-the-match and tops in A Flight as he put his best competitive effort for some time to lap the field with a best on the day 38 points. Freddy was also the only player to better his handicap, this coupled with the only 2 of the day. John Pierrel threw a handy 35 points at the always difficult Khao Kheow layout to fill the silver spot.
The inform pair of Christian Boysen, 35 points, and Sunday’s top man Aiden Murray, 32 points, filled the gold and silver places in B Flight but Aiden did need to gain a count back decision over the unlucky Nick ‘Elvis’ Shaw.
Wednesday,
September 17, St Andrews - Stableford
A Flight
1st John Pierrel (11) 43 pts
2nd Odur Olafsson (14) 39 pts
3rd Mark Wood (7) 37 pts
B Flight
1st Terry Dyer (16) 39 pts
2nd Christian Boysen (17) 39 pts
3rd Ron Grafton (15) 35pts
C Flight
1ST Darren Doyle (20) 39 pts
2nd Ed Delaney (26) 34 pts
3rd Brian Davison (23) 32 pts
John Pierrel, second on Tuesday, took no chances and no prisoners with his man-of-the-Match 43 points. That was four more than his A Flight compatriot Odur Olafsson with a fine 39 points, and a further two from Aberdeen’s favourite son, Mark Wood.
Terry Dyer, continuing to play effectively despite an ever decreasing handicap topped B Flight with a sound 39 points. But he needed a count back decision over Sunday’s Medal runner up Christian Boysen (not having much luck in the old count back department is Christian). The bronze spot also went to a count back as Ron Grafton and Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Beilby were tied on 35 points, the former filled the flight spot as Eddy was left at sea level and pot less.
C Flight was not to be out done as it had a 39 pointer in the form of Darren Doyle. Darren was five clear of Irishman Ed Delaney. In the final count back of the day, Brian Davidson edged Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw, both on 32 points. Peter joined Eddy on the beach.
John Coombs and Eddy Beilby shared the 2’s pot with John Pierrel.

Sports Bag: State of golf courses

Sports Editor;
P.S.C. members have recently written up an article about the very poor state of the Emerald Golf Course and its very high fees. They moan and say they will “place balls” on the course until it improves. But if it is that bad, why continue to support the club? Articles in newspapers will mean nothing to the course’s Thai owners, but action by loss of business will get their attention. Why not get other members of P.S.C. to help by supporting a blockade against playing at all clubs of very poor quality and high fees?
Thai golf course fees have gone up around 50% on average since 2010 but the courses have not improved by that much, and in some cases have got worse. Why not set up an info page on P.S.C.’s web site with updates on courses for all to see so they will be in the know and can make a decision as to where they play next? This might help improve things.
