Eye patches, a skull and crossbones, and pieces of eight all made up an action-packed Talk Like a Pirate Day at Garden International School (GIS).
GIS’s Prefects came up with a cunning plan to entertain Primary students on September 19, which is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. After gathering together the landlubbers, they led them on a treasure hunt around school, as students searched for their hidden prizes.
At lunchtime, the pirates found three scurvy knaves, in the form of teachers Mr Carson and Mr Beales, and GIS Principal Dr Tasker. After rounding them up, the pirates forced the trio to walk the plank - into the school swimming pool.
Well done to the Prefects who helped organise the event.

Ahoy me hearties! The GIS pirates on parade.

GIS Prefects became pirates for a day.

Pirates held several fun activities in Primary too.

At St. Andrews International School, Green Valley, culturally enriching field trips are a very important element of the curriculum. These enriching field trips contribute to the development of students into global citizens who possess more knowledge about art, have stronger critical-thinking skills and exhibit increased cultural and historical empathy.

On September 16th Year 10 art students from St. Andrews IS Green Valley visited exhibitions of traditional and contemporary Thai arts and crafts at Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre.
Susan Castle, the Secondary Art teacher said, “We were lucky to see some excellent two and three dimensional work by Thai artist Inson Wongsam and a range of contemporary paintings, photographs, videos and installations by artists such as Bussaraporn Thongchai. I believe that seeing these works of art first hand will have a significant impact on the students’ understanding and appreciation of Thai art and this will be reflected in the work that they produce in class.”
The visit to the Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre was followed by a visit to Jim Thompson’s House where students enjoyed taking photographs in the beautiful gardens.
