Recently opened Cartoon Network Amazone Waterpark, Asia’s
largest aqua playground, kindly entertained a group of special needs
children from the Horseshoe Point therapy riding programme.
Riding therapist Sandra Cooper explains, “It is beneficial to see our
special needs riders in a different surroundings.” This helps to further
understand their personalities and needs. Watching them process their new
surrounding can be most challenging to the child. Two young riders took the
whole morning to put their feet in the moving water, once in the water you
could see their delight. Just like therapy riding you have to keep
encouraging the child and, with time, you will get the results. Whether your
child is Autistic or Downs syndrome, change can be very hard. Patience is
needed and lots of repetition, then you see the results.
Some children found balance and co-ordination their main aim of the day,
particularly on the Surfarena. Coached by the Cartoon Network swimming
staff, our children mastered the skill to surf, much to the delight of their
parents who then couldn’t wait to try themselves. Next was the Megawave,
either using the boats or rubber rings to ride the waves.
At lunch time under the cabanas the Cartoon Network mascots came to
entertain. The ever popular Ben 10 along with Princess Bubblegum and the
Powerpuff girls. A huge chocolate cake was presented to the children in
celebration of their special day. It was wonderful to see the parents have
the opportunity to relax and switch off in this incredible water park.
For the afternoon’s entertainment everyone headed for the Cartoonival,
shooting down curly slides and getting soaked by the giant tipping bucket.
We would like to thank all the staff of Cartoon Network Amazone for their
kind hospitality on Friday 26th September. Bonding days like these build
better relationships allowing more trust from our riders.
