Sue K.
On the 29th of November, the first pool lift in Pattaya was installed at the Diana Garden Resort for the disabled.
Introduced and recommended by Jens Maspphul, this pool lift helps the wheelchair users and also older customers to be able to access the pool without difficulties. It’s indeed a big step to provide a better quality of life to those who otherwise may not have a chance to enjoy a dip or a swim in the pool.

Dusit Thani Pattaya appoints new executive chef

Chef Jens Heier.

Dusit Thani Pattaya GM Chatchawal Supachayanont recently appointed Jens Heier as the new executive chef of the 457-room Dusit brand hotel.
A German national, Chef Jens brings with him a wealth of experience of more than 26 years in the culinary profession. In the span of his career, he worked in several Michelin Starred fine dining restaurants in Europe as he ventured out of Germany where he began his culinary passion.
In 2002, he decided to experience the gourmet evolution in Asia where he found his niche and excelled in places such as South Korea, Vietnam, China and Thailand.
In his new role, Chef Jens will oversee all aspects of culinary operations of the hotel’s three restaurants, a gourmet bakery, two pool bars and two lounges. He will also play a major role in its outside catering business providing banquet support for clients and its renowned MICE capability.
Prior to his appointment, Chef Jens worked in the corporate office of the Onyx Hospitality Group as culinary director in charge of corporate operations of all Onyx properties.
Chef Jens’ work has been recognized with two prestigious awards - as Chef of the Year for two consecutive years in Germany for his outstanding contemporary Pan-Asian cuisine and in South Korea in 2003 for his contemporary French cuisine. In addition, he has had the honor of preparing a meal for Queen Silvia of Sweden and celebrities like Madonna, Kate Moss, Jamiroquai and others.
Chef Jens believes in using only the freshest and best local products, adding that simplicity is the ultimate challenge. “To be a chef is not just a job; it is a mission to create with passion. A good chef would need to have interaction with guests to find out new trends in order to create new dishes. Nowadays, it’s a must to meet guest expectations. Menu is just a guideline for the guests and chefs must be able and willing to follow individual food ideas and creations to satisfy them. Being a successful chef means you have to know what your guests would want to eat tomorrow,” adds Chef Jens.

Gov’t moves to make Thailand regional trading hub

The government hopes that it could propose a plan to the National Legislative Assembly before year-end to make Thailand a regional trading hub which could help push national economic growth to more than 4 percent annually, said Deputy Prime Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula.
Concerned authorities have already completely amended regulations, while it needs a slight adjustment of tax procedures, Pridiyathorn said, adding that he hoped the plan could be tabled to the Assembly sometime this month.
It is hoped that several foreign private firms would seek to establish trading headquarters in Thailand after the proposal is approved because the country could manufacture various products for trading, he said.
It would be difficult to see Thailand’s annual economic growth at over 4 percent in the future if the plan to make Thailand the regional trading hub did not materialize, he said.
Investment in the country could not expand much due to high labor costs and labor shortages and they would negatively affect national economic growth.
Pridiyathorn said he is optimistic that economic growth could remain above 4 percent in “just over a year” if Thailand could become a regional trading hub.
The private sector has recently expressed that the plan, if materialized, could boost several activities, including increasing the number of conferences and boosting tourism in the country.
The cabinet recently approved a proposal to promote the setting up of international headquarters as well as international trading companies in Thailand.
Under the proposal, procedures on applying for promotional privileges offered by the state-run Board of Investment (BoI) would be streamlined along with a reduction of registered capital requirements to not less than Bt10 million, as well as adjusting issuance of visa procedures and work permits in the kingdom.
