All knotted atop Mickey Mouse Darts

Seven weeks into the Mickey Mouse Friday Night Darts League’s season and, count ‘em, four teams are tied for the lead. In one of the closest races to date, Rising Sun, Palmers, Pleasure Dome and Mick’s Place all sit atop the leader board with identical 4 and 3 records and 4 beer legs won. Rising Sun has the edge in the ultimate tie breaker, most under tens, and therefore can claim the bragging rights of being on top of the league.
Beer Put, meanwhile, continues their slide. After starting the season with 3 straight wins, Beer Put has now lost 4 in a row to slide down into 5th place.
Dave from Pleasure Dome has achieved the league’s highest check out so far this season, 129.
Results from week 7: Rising Sun won the match and the beer leg over Beer Put away. Palmer’s also won the match and the beer leg over Cheers at home. Pleasure Dome won the match but lost the beer leg to Mick’s Place at home.

Pattaya Golf Society changes format

At the conclusion of their committee meeting on October 24, the Pattaya Golf Society decided to revert back to their “old” format of playing venues. This will mean that starting this month, the Pattaya Golf Society will hold 3 stroke play tournaments a month at Pattaya Country Club, and one Stableford competition every month at one of the many other courses in the area. All competitions will be held on Tuesdays.
Pattaya Golf Society members felt that since Pattaya Country Club is their home venue, more of the club’s competitions should be held there. Therefore, in the near future, the PGS Championships Pairing and the PGS Club Championships will be played at Pattaya Country Club as well.
For more information about joining the society or just playing a round of golf, contact Peter at First House Hotel, Soi Buakao.

Along the way, Jack’s has not only been winning most of their matches, but they have been winning them big. Sunday Quiz

Who composed Alexander’s Ragtime Band? (Look for the answer at the end of this write up.)
It will take a miracle now for Wild Chicken to not set the all time record for futility in the tough Sunday Night Quiz League. Wild Chicken is now 465 points behind leaders Palmer’s Bar, and are no where close to breaking the thousand point barrier for the season. They are, however, most likely quite near breaking the thousand “pint” barrier for the season.
The only “race” left this season is for the uneventful finish of fourth place. Rising Sun leads Mick’s by 7 points, with Fawlty Towers third in the race for fourth, 8 points back.
The end of season awards presentation party is scheduled to be held at Pleasure Dome on Sunday night, November 11.
Results from week 16: Cheers defeated Wild Chicken 74 to 53 away. Pleasure Dome squeaked by Fawlty Towers 73 to 72 at home. Mick’s Place beat Rising Sun 85 to 80 away. Bob’s Bar and Viking Beachcomber played to a 69 all tie. Palmer’s scored 73 points at home.

The answer to this week’s question; “Who composed Alexander’s Ragtime Band?” Irving Berlin.
The public is invited to join the fun every Sunday night in the Quiz League. Interested parties need only show up Sunday nights at 8:30 p.m. at the venues listed n the Sports Roundup column of Pattaya Mail.

Members of the Hydro Gym at the Royal Garden share their comments:
“It helps to free me of tensions, both physically and mentally.”

Previous leaders, Bob’s and Rising Sun, won their matches against Shamrock and Aussie ken’s respectively, but in relatively low scoring rounds. Britannia defeated Palmer’s by a single point. The average score across the league, converted to a percent, is 71%.

Harry Riley wins Diana Group Monthly Medal

Harry Riley took B flight honors and overall low net to win the Diana Group Monthly Medal on a soggy Friday, October 25 at Green Valley (Rayong) Golf Course. Harry shot a net 75 off his ever falling 19 handicap in the wet conditions.
Arthur Busch shot a net 78 to finish second in the B flight.
Mark Thomas shot a net 79 to win the A flight of the monthly competition. Tony Collins also shot a net 79, but lost out on count back, to finish second in the A flight.
Jean Blank won nearest the pin honors on hole #4. Brian Imrie, always good with his short irons, won closest to the pin honors on holes #7 and #15.
The overall scores were quite good considering the dampness of the course. The extra long rainy season this year is taking its toll, leaving most golf courses, Green Valley included, on the damp side. A few of the competitors in this month’s Diana Medal opted not to complete their rounds due to the rain. Adding to the difficulties, the pins were back, making for hard going for all golfers.
Splinter Group members wish to give a special thanks to the Diana Inn/Green Bottle for the extra bottles of beer donated as draw prizes.
The Diana Group Monthly Medal will be held on the last Friday of every month at Green Valley (Rayong). The competition is open to all Pattaya golfers. For more information, contact The Splinter Group at the Green Bottle or the Diana Golf Centre at the Diana Inn.

Splinter Golf Group at the Green Bottle

October 21 - Monday Eastern Star
Texas Scramble
1st place team: Steve Ross, Tony Odlum, Mick O’Meara 69.8
2nd place team: Jody Mazerat, Arthur Bailey, Eddie Wong 71.1
The rainy season seems to be taking its toll on Eastern Star Country Club. The course has been in better shape, and the greens are “not good” at best. Despite the conditions, Splinter golfers Steve Ross, Tony Odlum and Mick O’Meara teamed up to win the monthly “Splinter Scramble”. The top team managed to get around the course in 69.8.
Jody Mazerat, Arthur Bailey and Eddie Wong (an American import) finished just 1.3 strokes back in second place with a team score of 71.1.
The Wednesday, October 23rd edition of the monthly Pleasure Dome Medal at Pattaya Country Club fell victim to the remnants of tropical storm Beth. Although the group attempted to get the competition in, heavy rains caused a washout halfway through. Better luck next month.

Ray Leopard takes Hare House Medal

Despite awesomely bad conditions at Pattaya Country Club on Wednesday, October 23, Ray Leopard managed to finish atop the leader board in the monthly Hare House Medal. Ray finished with a net 74, a remarkable score considering the conditions.
The remnants of typhoon Beth played havoc with the golfers who braved the storm and finished their rounds. At times, rain was so heavy competitors couldn’t see much further than the lady’s tee. Nonetheless, the hypothermic golfers got around, despite occasionally needing to “bail” out the cups.
Glen “Lassie” Dragland, in what must be one of the highlights of his golfing career, finished tied for second with Mats Mueller. Both golfers came in at net 80.
Malcom rounded out the top four with a net round of 84, which included his first ever birdie.

George Meigh wins PGS trophy

George Meigh won Pattaya Golf Society’s monthly trophy at Great Lakes Country Club on Tuesday, October 22, 1996. Playing off a 22 handicap, Meigh put together 35 Stableford points to win the monthly medal competition.

Colin Morgan earned closest to the pin honours after he landed his tee shot nearest the pin on hole #12.
The Pattaya Golf Society meets weekly on Tuesdays, with regular tournaments at Pattaya Country Club and monthly medal rounds at several different courses in the greater Pattaya area.
