Pattaya’s Mayor, Pattaya
Police, and many local people rallied to promote the use of helmets
while riding motorcycles.
Under Thai law, all persons either driving or riding
pillion on any type of motorcycle must wear a helmet. It has been proven
over and again that this law, when enforced, saves lives.
Pattaya police have now begun a new campaign to enforce this law and
encourage the public to use crash helmets when on motorcycles. The
campaign was kicked off with Pattaya police officers and the mayor of
Pattaya leading a rally around town wearing crash helmets while riding
motorcycles. Members of the public and civil servants wearing crash
helmets also took part in the rally, all done to encourage the general
public to do the same.
Through this campaign, local police hope to curtail the increasing
number of head injuries from motorcycle accidents in Pattaya. The police
also wish to remind people that those who do not wear helmets will be
dealt with severely.
This is being done to honour His Majesty the King on the occasion of His
Golden Jubilee.
