Fitness Tips

by David Garred,
Club Manager Dusit Resort Sports Club.

Hi readers, welcome back to Fitness Corner. How is the Festive season treating you? Are you eating and drinking the things you want? Well, you should be. Remember what we covered last week, you are much better off satisfying your hunger, rather than depriving yourself of what you want. The reason being that you WILL over-eat to compensate. This then leads to an overall increase in appetite and a compounding higher than necessary calorie intake.
Now for the hard part. How do we stay “healthy” during this period. People who exercise regularly (3-5 times per week) already will be happy now for I have some good news. Your fitness / strength level will not drop by any appreciable amount over a 2 week period. Those of you who don’t exercise (that is even walking for 20 minutes a couple of time per week) regularly need to ask a question of yourself: “Do I want to make that change?”
The six keys to change:
1. True Desire: Wanting something enough to be willing to face the fears you have about achieving it. Saying to yourself, “I have had enough of this, I WILL do something about this.”
2. Strong Belief: Having the confidence to believe that you can and WILL have what you want.
3. Knowledge: Under-standing the legitimate means by which you can accomplish what you want. If you don’t know for sure you simply ask someone who is qualified.
4. A plan for change: Plotting the specific methods and techniques for achieving your desired results. If you are unsure, once again the best and quickest way is to ask a professional.
5. Setbacks: Recognising that the path of change is not a straight road and that it’s only guilt and feelings of failure that stop your progress. You will get plateau’s and setbacks on your way, have the strength and get the support to go above and beyond the hard times.
6. Progress: Learning to acknowledge and reward ALL accomplishments. Treat yourself when you improve, when you overcome a plateau or achieve a small goal on the way to the big one. What all this comes down to is a question: “Do you want it badly enough?” What ever it is you can have it—if you really want it. Start slow and get some help if you aren’t sure how to get there. Don’t put it off any longer, do it now, seize the day.
Have a Very Merry Christmas. Thank you for reading.
