Pianist Giovanni C. Ardito performing at Zeppelin 2
Remember the old song, ‘Love a Piano’, by Blossom Seely?
Well, if you don’t remember the song you’ll still love the piano as played by
Giovanni C. Ardito.
Giovanni will be playing at the Zeppelin 2 daily from 7-11 p.m. starting January
24 and finishing on February 12th.
The piano was invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori and since then it has been the
non plus ultra of musical instruments. In the 19th century great pianists
enjoyed the same success that rock stars do today.
Giovanni has had no little success himself. He began studying the piano at an
early age and with the blessings of his teachers he went on to gain a diploma in
advanced piano from Palomar Junior College in San Diego. No long hair music
freak, he feels that the piano should be used to communicate and enhance one’s
quality of life. Aside from being resident pianist on many of the world’s great
ocean liners, he has thrilled diners at many of the world’s great hotels.
Giovanni’s repertoire is made up of his own unique, crisp and exciting
arrangements, influenced by George Shearing, Oscar Peterson, Peter Nero, Bill
Evans and Ahmal Jamal. His exciting execution of piano vibrates with passionate
intensities and rich melodic textures. His forte is incorporating jazz and
classical technique to the world’s best loved melodies.
The Zeppelin 2 is proud to have Giovanni C. Ardito to entertain you in his
inimitable fashion.
See you there!

Hot Jazz at the Amari Orchid Resort
There is not much for Jazz fans in Pattaya’s rather arid
cultural climate. But relief is coming for those who enjoy good Jazz.
On January 31st and February 2nd, the Amari Orchid Resort will once again
present the Australian Storyville Jazztet. The group, which was a big
success in Pattaya last year, will be bringing a “Tribute to Louis
Armstrong” program to Pattaya music lovers. Featured is singer Beverly
Sheehan.
This Queensland based group has an international following and appears
regularly at music festivals throughout Australia. Comprised of some of the
top Australian jazz musicians from Queensland, N.S.W. and Victoria, these
talented performers specialise in mainstream Jazz ranging from early
traditional jazz and blues of New Orleans, through the hot Chicago Jazz
School to the exciting sounds of the Swing era and beyond. Quality and
versatility are the hallmarks of their work.
The group consists of Dennis Ashton (bass), Allan Leake (drums), Lachie
Thomson (clarinet and saxes), Johnny Adams (piano), Mike Hallam (trumpet),
Vern Moore (trombone and tenor sax), and Trevor Rippingale (saxes and
clarinet).
This tour, called “Satchmo Remembered”, will bring back some of “The
Satch’s” greatest hits. Louis Armstrong is and was one of the most revered
musicians in the jazz world and has given us many perennials and evergreens
such ‘Basin Street Blues,’ ‘Hello Dolly’, ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’, ‘What a
Wonderful World’ and many more. His warmth of personality and projection of
an individual music are warmly remembered.
The Jazztet jammed in Pattaya last year and the Amari was packed on one of
the hottest days of 1996.
This year, the group will be playing a Tropical Garden Jazz night with
dinner beginning at 7:00 p.m. on January 31, and a Tropical Garden Jazz
Brunch from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on February 2.
The long line-up of sponsors include the Pattaya Mail, Coca-Cola, Carlsberg,
and the Italthai Cellar.

Calling all Pattaya/ Ban Chang Netballers!
Front Row: Sylvia Hanbidge, Charissa Sassen,
Andrea Whitehead. Back Row: Marianne Hobbs, Sarah Heard, Karen Pennock,
Denise Blair, Tanya Griffith, Brooke Mussared, Michelle Thurgate.
The newly formed Pattaya/Ban Chang Netball team really showed potential
by winning two out of three games in its first competition at the
Pattana School, Bang Na recently. The team played in a round robin
tournament in which four teams participated. It was really a great day
of competition for all those rusty netballers who have been denied a
game for so long.
Training has been taking place at the Garden International School, Ban
Chang. The team has ten players and is looking for further interested
people to make up two teams. Training will continue on a regular basis
every Thursday. The next tournament will be held in February - our local
team is out to topple the undefeated Bangkok side.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Michelle on 306
199 or Carissa on 306 131.
