Heinzi’s in Pattaya
An open letter from a German visitor
In earlier days, some could see the “Heinzi’s” (or
Charlies) everywhere, especially during summer vacations. Later on, since
workers on the third shift of big factories were allowed to take vacations
during the winter season, they appeared at every airport in the world.
London, Frankfurt, Vienna or Munich - they stood in line at check-in wearing
jogging suits or shorts and an alcohol-red head. Heinzi’s always came in
groups - could it be that one alone wouldn’t find the airport? Before one
can see this species of homo-sapiens, one can already hear them telling
stupid jokes and insensitive proverbs at the top of their voices. Yes,
Heinzi’s do have a complex (or more) and are afraid of flying, but they like
to compensate their fear with a loud mouth. The first time I came to
Thailand, with my wife, more than ten years ago, the airplane was still in
Heinzis’ hands.
Now, Heinzi’s are going to disappear more and more - most probably they have
had no time to breed, being too busy talking about their past adventures -
but nobody is listening anymore; or trying to buy T-shirts with intelligent
prints like “Beer Tour 1997” - but nobody takes notice anymore. The
VD-Clipper is out, airlines transport mainly couples in all age groups to
Thailand. Could it be that Thailand is not the roofed brothel anymore as
some media people still try to make us believe?
Still, Pattaya is a pavement where Heinzi’s, even now-a-days, are able to
make fools out of themselves. Fat-bellied men with thin hair, or such men
who look like they insist on a seat in a subway and let pregnant or older
women stand, are strolling along the beach with very young Thai girls. Some
of them look like they are not going to survive their next intercourse.
Those are the guys who don’t realize the signs of the times: Pattaya itself
has changed over the last 5 years. Its infra-structure is better as in so
many big cities in Europe. We people from the so-called developed countries
shouldn’t dare to point a finger - we should see this country with open eyes
for we still can learn a lot from its culture. Or, is it by accident that so
many families are coming to Pattaya for their vacation, as one can see at
swimming pools and at the beaches, where a lot of European children are
playing around?
By the way, the first children’s playground I found was in “heinous” Pattaya
at the Thai Garden Resort. With a lot of Farang children playing in it. The
managers there, a German couple, were one of the early inventors of family
holidays many years ago.
Now this hotel became quite infamous in Germany because three of those
Heinzi’s had the great idea to brings girls into their room without
registering them. They got drugged and robbed. The girls were definitely not
working in a bar in Pattaya. They usually don’t have to get money the
criminal way. Every one of them has at least 11 “fiancees” who are naive
enough to believe that they are the only ones and who not only pay while
they are with the girls, but are also stupid enough to send them money every
month. Still, the bar girls and Thai Garden get the blame. Sorry, I do not
agree with that.
Why, I ask, isn’t the media, who writes nasty about them, coming to this
fine hotel to take a careful look? Clean, environmentally friendly and
polite, helpful staff other hotels dream about. Like I wrote, I have been
coming with my family to Pattaya for over 10 years, three times a year, and
I’m sure I’m able to judge if a hotel is good or not. The customers in this
hotel are mostly couples and return almost every year to this place. Of
course, if the media finds nothing to complain about - the story can’t be
sold. Fair play doesn’t have such a high price as dirty stories.
Thank you very much for your attention.
Yours sincerely,
Rudolph Waper, Munich, Germany

Fantastic Fantasy
Fantasy is unlimited imagination.
Most often used by younger generation.
They have wonderful ideas in mind,
Created from what & where did they find?
Take for example Santa Claus.
He flies with reindeer & comes indoors
Down a chimney but never gets stuck
And his fat tummy doesn’t get muck!
What about mischief elves & fairies?
The ones who do good never varies.
Godmother in Cinderella tale.
Tooth-fairy who leaves “dime” without fail.
The elves who work the cobbler’s shoe
The ones who live in footgloves too.
The witches who pot evil brew.
The goblins who spoil the hot stew!
What of the fairy atop Xmas tree,
With glistening wings for all to see?
All these are children’s delight
Who keeps them safe throughout the night

Enforce
traffic laws
Sir,
Your paper this week (Vol. V No. 4) was full of funny stories and jokes. One
in particular, “Politicians push to change Pattaya into a municipality”. The
solution to this whole thing is so simple that the governor, municipal
council, mayor and city manager cannot figure it all out. Let them (all)
keep 100% of the allotted budget to pay civil servants’ “salaries”. The
solution to it all to make Pattaya a first class resort is to enforce all
traffic laws through all legal process and courts.
