Pattaya Mail reporters receive meritorious awards
Somchai Khunpluen, Mayor of Saensukh Municipality,
awards plaques of achievement to Mr. Anand Kingsorn of Thai Rat Newspaper, Mr.
Boonleua Chartri, Assistant Reporter for TV channel 5 and a stringer for the
Pattaya Mail, and Kittisak Khamthong, reporter for Pattaya Mail.
National Reporters’ Day 1997 was celebrated at the Asia Hotel in Pattaya on the
1st and 2nd of March respectively.
Admiral Prasong Songkroh, Commander of the Sattahip Naval Base, honoured the
gathering of media people by being the guest of honour, MC and presenter of the
various awards at the ceremony. We cannot thank the very busy Admiral Prasong
enough for taking time from his very full roster of duties to be with us. Being
a truly disciplined Navy man, he was the first to arrive at the ceremonies.
Anusak
Rodboonme from the Asia Hotel sponsored the event.
The night sparkled with stars, such as MP Mr. Charnsak Chavalitanititham, Pairat
Suthithamronsawat, the Mayor of Pattaya, Mr. Niran Satanasartsathorn, Deputy
City Manager of Pattaya, Songsak Yomchinda, Pattaya City Manager, along with all
the commanders of the various police organisations (42 dignitaries in all).
Charnyuth Hengtrakul and Rewat Phollukin were but two of the Provincial Council
Members represented.
Mr. Viraj Kijsom, the head of the Pattaya Media Association and the As-sociation
itself would like to thank all donors who put money in the kitty and helped
sponsor the party. If we listed all these generous people it would cover a whole
page and if we listed only a few it would not be fair.
Chanyudh
Hengtrakul, Head of the Provincial Council, displays his golden voice to the
crowd of reporters.
All the members of the Pattaya Media are most grateful for all the support,
goodwill and encouragement given the media. We cannot think of anything to say
or do to thank those who know that good news reporting is totally necessary for
a society to function well. We can only say that we will continue to do our duty
as well as possible. We promise to be the watchdogs of society. This is what we
can do in return for you.
The Pattaya party had not been finished for 24 hours when the Media Association
for Thailand’s annual celebration at the Bangsaen Beach Resort began. Somchai
Khunpluen, Mayor of Saensukh Municipality, was the sponsor of this bash. This
party was for the Eastern Seaboard in particular. Phadungsak Tantravorasilp,
Head of the Association of the Eastern Seaboard, was the organiser. This was a
truly magnificently executed and extravagant celebration. This was due to the
kind support of the civil and public sectors along with the business community.
Several awards were given for outstanding achievement during the past year, and
three reporters from Pattaya received awards. Mr. Anand Kingsorn of Thai Rat
Newspaper, Mr. Boonleua Chartri, Assistant Reporter for TV channel 5 and a
stringer for the Pattaya Mail, and Kittisak Khamthong, reporter for Pattaya Mail
all received meritorious achievement awards.
After the awards ceremony, there was a lucky draw and everyone went home with a
prize.

draw numbers, giving away lots of wonderful prizes, as Past President
Dennis Stark and current president Kees Peperkamp help with the fun.
More than 450 Rotarians, families and guests from many different clubs
attended the Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya’s 10th Anniversary Party on
the 1st of March at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort.
Alois X. Fassbind, past President of the Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya
and current Executive Vice-President of the Royal Cliff Beach Resort,
opened the ceremonies with a warm welcoming speech which expressed his
great pleasure at seeing so many participants take part in this historic
event. He also en-couraged everyone to buy many raffle tickets and game
coupons so as to raise as much money as possible for needy children.
Past District Governor of the Rotary Som Indra-Payoong also gave a warm
welcoming speech, thanking the Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya for its 10
years of hard work and great contribution to ease poverty. He also
reminded Rotarians, “Do not rest, for their will always be poverty
around us and we, as a huge organisation, can do much to help solve it.”
Visiting Past President Dimi Dimitro told gathered Rotarians, “I am very
proud to be able to be here today. 10 years ago, I had the opportunity
to join the installation of this fine club. It gives me great pleasure
to see the improvements this club has achieved. Though I am a regular
visitor to Pattaya, I’ll be looking forward to attending the next
jubilee on the 20th anniversary.”

“The Park” at the Royal Cliff had just the right touch of scenery to
hold a party with such magnitude and fun. Many games were placed around
the tables and everyone had the opportunity to play and win. Food stalls
offered a deliciously large selection at more than reasonable prices.
Cold draft beer helped to cool off the gamblers and sportsmen who tried
their best at football, darts, horse shoes and volleyball. A big raffle
with fantastic prizes capped off the end of the party.
Children’s laughter filled the air. Rotarians and Rotary Anns were kept
busy working game stalls and selling tickets. “Young Interact” children
helped to keep the games going, and at the same time were playing around
as well.
As promised, the party was not only fun but also a big success. The
Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya is well known as one of the most
successful clubs in Thailand when it comes to charity. All the profits,
which were considerable, from this remarkable event went to charity.
