Pattaya Park Tower - A thrill not to miss
Ever seen those apparent maniacs gliding down the side of Pattaya Park
Tower? Having watched them a few times myself I thought it was time to give
it a go.
It may seem obvious, but the 360 degree view from the tower’s apex
observation deck on the 55th floor is utterly breathtaking. Jomtien Beach
seems to stretch on forever to one side, while Pattaya metropolis is
impressive on the other. This panorama is worth the 100 baht entrance fee
alone.
However, the 170 metre descent down the outside of the tower is totally
exhilarating, and included in the entry fee. As is the gondola ride down the
tower which caters for those who don’t want to overdo the adrenaline rush.
Nervousness started to set in as the safety officer assisted with fitting
the parachute type harness which is used for the flying-fox descent.
Waddling to the jump point at the edge of the rooftop in my harness, I was
anxious to get going. I could feel the adrenaline flood my bloodstream as I
was hooked onto the cable and sat on the edge.
Launching off the edge was as gentle as jumping into bed. Descending slowly
at an angle of about 45 degrees, I felt like a seagull floating above
Pattaya’s scenic coastline. Falling in a controlled manner, without any
structure around me can only be described as a Total Buzz! The magnificent
scenery was icing on top of the exhilaration.
As the ground approached I seemed to slow down. Before I knew it I was back
on earth being unhooked by the smiling, and I suspect envious, attendant.
Occupying only an hour, the view from the tower and the thrilling ride down
are a perfect way to spend some leisure time, perhaps before or after a
visit to Jomtien or the Pattaya Park water slides.
