Service personnel profiles
Sanya Pilong (left) and Anan
Rordphai of the Montien Hotel display their hard earned trophies for exemplary
service achievements.
A quick look at those who some consider to be artists in the
field of food preparation and service, and who make your meals most enjoyable at
some of Pattaya’s best restaurants.
Anan Rordphai, 25, currently at the Montien Hotel, has had a love of the arts
since childhood. Coming from a poor family, he never had a chance to study in
the various exalted art schools of Bangkok, and his only choice was to receive a
diploma from a vocational school in the food and beverage curriculum. Yet he
worked hard at increasing his knowledge of art by learning how to decorate
dinner plates, dinner tables and dining areas in the most artistic manner. He
soon became accepted as an expert in this area among Thai and foreign customers.
His fame has continued to grow and he has appeared on many television shows,
giving food and beverage demonstrations. Khun Anan’s dream is to have his own
business, selling fresh and dried flowers. He would also like to teach fruit,
ice and vegetable carving.
Among his accomplishments are:
1. Second prize winner in the Pattaya Fruit arranging festival in 1993.
2. Second prize winner in the Watermelon carving competition in the Best
Bartender Contest in 1995.
3. The Bronze Medal at the International Hospitality Show in the fruit and
vegetable carving division at the Sirikit Centre.
4. The Silver Medal at the International Hospitality Show ‘95 at the Sirikit
Centre.
5. The Silver Medal in the ice carving competition at the International
Hospitality Show ‘96 at the Sirikit Centre.
6. The Gold Medal in the fruit and vegetable carving competition at the
International Hospitality Show ‘96 at the Sirikit Centre.
7. The Bronze Medal in the fruit and vegetable carving competition and the
Silver Medal in the ice carving competition at the International Hospitality
Show ‘97 and the Sirikit Centre.
Sanya Pilong, 21, who also works in the food and beverage department at the
Montien Hotel, is ‘coming on strong’ in the food and beverage industry.
Sanya has attained the following achievements:
1. Grand Prize winner ‘Best Service Worker’ in the Department of Labour’s
competition a the Town in Town Hotel in Pattaya for the year 1993.
2. The Gold Medal in the lighting of fruit flambé at the International
Hospitality Show of 1997 at the Sirikit Centre.
Anyone wishing to see or taste the products of these two artists may do so at
the La Mer Grill and the other restaurants at the Montien Hotel.

Mr. Rapin Jarudul, the Assistant Director of Land Traffic, told the Chonburi

Oh, those snails...
by Ariyada
A wife and her husband, newly arrived in Pattaya, were having a
dinner party for all the major status figures of their company. The wife was
very exited about this and wanted everything to be perfect. At the very last
minute, she realized that she didn’t have any snails for this dinner party.
Being from France, snails are very important for her on an occasion like
this. She asked her husband to run down to the nearby field where she’d seen
snails before, handed him a bucket and told him to gather some snails.
Very grudgingly he agreed. He took the bucket, walked out the door, down the
steps, and out to the field. As he was collecting the snails, he noticed a
beautiful girl strolling alongside just a little further down. He couldn’t
take his eyes off her and kept thinking to himself: ‘Wouldn’t it be nice if
she’d just walk over to me and talked to me.’ After a while he went back to
gathering the snails. All of a sudden he saw a shadow falling over the
snails; he looked up to see the beautiful girl standing right over him.
They got to talk, and she invited him back to her place, very close to the
field. He followed her, still curious, but as soon as they reached her
apartment they immediately started messing around. Hot, exhausted and tired
as he was afterwards, he just passed out there. He slept through the night
and when he woke up early the next morning, he was struck by the thought of
his wife’s dinner party. He put on his clothes in a hurry, picked up the
bucket with the snails and ran back home.
He ran so fast, when he got to the top of the stairs at his house, he
dropped the bucket of snails. They were all over the stairs. At this moment,
the door opened with his very angry wife standing there. He looked at his
wife, looked at the snails, crawling on the stairs and said: ‘Come on guys,
we’re almost there!’

What’s all this about mysterious women?
Seven sure ways to become one, part one
discovered by Ariyada.
It’s a fact: Men love mysterious women. The intense rush a man feels
in the presence of a topless but untouchable sex object quickly subsides.
While a bare-it-all style has immediate allure, an easy quickly becomes
boring for them. Why? There’s nothing more to learn. The unknowable, not the
over-exposed, is what really turns them on.
How, you will ask, do you keep mystery alive when your man knows everything
about you - from the way you floss your teeth to the cute little birthmark
on your buttocks?
Here are seven strategies guaranteed to bring out the alluring, enigmatic
qualities in every woman.
1. Surprise! Although men are easily seduced by the new and fresh, they
often try to stifle mystery in their mates: “What did you do to your hair?”
“But you never wear red!” You might find that your initial attempts to
surprise him are met with intense resistance, but be persistent. You have to
convince him repeatedly that there’s a world of you left to explore.
Maybe you go ahead and paint your nails mocha or purple. Make him think he
doesn’t know what you’ll do next. That includes letting him see you without
make-up if you always wear it, suggesting a snorkeling expedition if you’re
more a lie-on-the-beach sort.
Introducing simple novelties to your man will energize him. Use a totally
different perfume as usual or invite him for a picnic at a moonlit beach,
with chilled wine and lobster rolls to spoil him. Other tactics can be as
effective. A trail of candles lighting a path to bed, love notes in his
briefcase, a rose on his steering wheel in the morning. Use your
imagination! A woman of mystery constantly surprises her man with
unpredictability. She will show up at his office party wearing a sexy new
dress, offer new thoughts on an old subject. Any woman who grows and changes
is, by definition, mysterious. Her metamorphosing will always keep him in
awe.
2. Keep some secrets to yourself! Don’t always tell your lover everything -
be conservative in revealing information. As soon as a woman tells all, the
relationship tends to end very quickly. Less is more. That doesn’t mean you
are closing off the possibility of true intimacy with your man - his
struggle to get to know the real you will actually bring you closer
together. A key to maintaining mystery involves hinting regularly at the
richness of your private life - fantasies, desires, past experiences - but
not embellishing with too much detail. A sprinkling of clues always leaves a
man with things to question about. A previous generation was thought to be
secretive as a way to catch a man, but as more women has become assertive,
some have lost their aura of mystery. Veiling yourself in a little secrecy
can simply be very romantic.
3. Preserve your independence! Independent friendships and interests and a
strong sense of autonomy are essential components of the mystery that is
you. Having a life of your own is important. Too often, women abandon their
own lives and leap into a partner’s, when in fact, a woman with a separate
life is far more attractive to a man.
How many times does it happen, that your man asks you to quit your job and
move in with him. Be there only for him. Most of the women believe in it and
toss away their own life to build one with ‘him’. But in no time, many men
feel ‘crowded’, start going out with the boys again and maybe end up having
an affair with an independent woman. Surely, when found out, they’ll blame
it on the women for having become so ‘boring’.
Many men are threatened by women who smother them with closeness. No man
really wants a woman who spends all day waiting for him to call. Most men
prefer women who can add on to their life, taking them to new heights.

Pattaya Mail next week.
