Baypoints Bouncers and Baas Bums battled through a hotly contested doubleheader on Sunday, April 5th at the weekly Pattaya Sports Club softball game. The two games could not have been more dissimilar as each team was able to claim a victory.
The first game turned into a defensive battle that stayed scoreless until the fourth when the Bouncers Dandy Dan and Harry Carey Darry each smacked a two run homer putting them up four zip.
The Bums Fort Lauderdale Scott had a two-run-scoring double in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to two. But Dandy Dans second two run homer of the game in the fifth was too much for the Bums, who tried valiantly to recover, but sharp defense by Alan Vegas at second and Gordon (Light) Foot in left squelched the potential rally, giving the Bouncers a six to three win.
The second game was an offensive deluge as each team scored runs in bunches. The Bums put up three in the first and three in the second with Kiwi Rick, Mike (Mr. Ice) Berg, and M. J. (Coffee) Jim each contributing timely hits.
Not to be outdone, the Bouncers bounced back with two in the first, one in the second and one in the fourth. Montreal (Uppa U.S.) Robert, C. F. (Fowl Ball) Macallen, and John (Baypoint) Bechtel did most of the damage at the plate.
In the fifth, the Bums Speakeasy Craig smacked a three run homer to right center to put the game out of reach, despite a last inning rally by the Bouncers. Final score: Bums 17 - Bouncers 10.
Special accolades to Perth (Homeboy) Paul who, playing in his first ever softball game, had several hits including a long triple to center, and pulled off several sparkling defensive gems as well.
Whether youve ever played or not, youre welcome to join the action every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Pattaya School #7 just past Greenway driving range and Caltex gas station on Sukhumvit Highway. Equipment is provided and refreshments are available. See ya out there!

At Khao Kheow Golf Course on Tuesday, 31 March members of the Pattaya Golf Society realised that banditry was not dead when Welsh Chairman, John Hopkins, won the Second Division Stableford Competition with 43 points.
Quiet and unassuming, John took all the adverse comments in his stride but is not likely to have many restful nights until handicaps are possibly revised
Roy "Tiger" Mitchell took the honours in the move prestigious First Division but with only 38 points. Roy is to be commended for his gallant effort.
Second to Roy was Colin (Tiffany) Morgan with 36 points and second in the Second Division was Remy with 38 points.
Remys enthusiasm for the game is obvious and his source of inspiration was to be seen at J.B. Bar following the game. Remy leaves for Antwerp this week and we shall see him again in 6 months time.
Nearest the pins were won by Remy, Ken Carr and Colin (Kattoy) Morgan - twice.
As a result of four consistent performances during March Ken Carr was successful in winning the "Player of the Month" award. Ken is of Ian Woosnams stature but packs real power and is to he congratulated.
It was an extremely hot day at Khao Kheow and gritty Dick Barbe barely made it to the clubhouse. Concerned friends will be pleased to learn that Dick was quickly revived by a mouth to mouth resuscitation in the locker room. The Good Samaritan wishes to remain nameless but is believed to be found most nights at Lindas Bar.
Pattaya Golf and Country Club have made a special weekday membership offer to members and details can be obtained at J.B. Bar.
During his pulsating round the Chairman lost a tooth. However, it was quickly retrieved and admirers will be relieved to know that his dazzling smile will be on show again next week.

Which French letter man wrote Candide? How many US presidents have had surnames of four letters?
After three weeks of the gruelling Sunday night quiz, Rising Sun are out in front once again. They are ahead of their nearest rivals Cheers and Pleasure Dome by a clear fourteen points. Then comes the Londoner bar, a traditionally modest shower, who achieved the highest score of 84% on March 29. After a poor start, Billy and Da have now moved off the bottom rung of the ladder, a place traditionally reserved for Tippys.
The Wednesday quiz started a new season on April 7 after a celebratory party at Bobs Bar on April 1st. Now that the Pattaya high season has dipped, all bars are busy scouring niteries and clubhouses to find experts on art history, sociological theory and organic chemistry, but so far without much success. If there really are Nobel prize winners out there, please feel free to come forward. The answers to the questions above are Voltaire and Four.
