John Orlebeck returns in splendid form
PSC Golf from the Café
Kronborg
Monday, July 27 - Phoenix Country Club (Stroke)
A Flight
1st: Sven Vistung, net 65
2nd: John Orlebeck, net 70
3rd: Graham Faithfull, net 74 (won on count back)
B Flight
1st: Ebrahim, net 69
2nd: Roland Piechoky, net 70
3rd: Doug Marko, net 70
Stroke play usually attracts a good turnout at Phoenix. Again a big enough
turnout to merit three prizes in both divisions with scores that will attract the
attention of the Handicap Committee.
John Orlebeck played precision golf to get nearest pins on two par threes.
The others went to recently converted Noddy Moyle and Trevor Wilson, back from Brunei.
Graham Faithfull pipped Father Jim Cochrane for third place on count back
with 74 net in A flight.
John Orlebeck came a creditable second on net 70.
However, Sven "The Viking" Vistung returned the best score of
the day, an incredible 65 net - a result greeted by a "splendid bout of apathy".
Another well-known burglar, Ebrahim, with a net 69 won B flight from
Roland Piechoky and Doug Marko, both on net 70.
Alec welcomed back Rawl Jensen (recently unwell), John Orlebeck, Graham
Faithfull and noisy Sven Bertleson, and at the same time, on behalf of one and all, gave a
fond farewell to Father Jim, Cees and Cila Bosman, and not least Noddy Moyle. Please note
that John Cahill lost his way and did not figure in prize list.
The Welsh win at Siam
There certainly was plenty at Siam Country Club in the PSC
Pattaya Golf Society when the Welsh occupied three of the top four places.
A good winner was veteran Colin (no good boyo) Morgan, who is in his 70th
year, with a net -1. He seems to get better with age - just like a good wine.
Colin Morgan, on one of his good days.
He was followed by North Welshman George Meigh in second place on count
back with +1. George played an excellent round but a 10 on one hole obviously affected his
chances.
Third was Asian Explorer Brian Kelly, also with +1. Brians efforts
were somewhat ruined by his liking for the beach, in this instance many of his shots were
played out of Siams bunkers.
Fourth was John Hopkins at +3, followed by Kevin Wilson with +4.
A welcome return was made by Francophile Maurice Bertrand who hails from
Jersey and who was at least half pleased with the result of the recent World Cup.
Deverdenne, Walsh, and Davlin
victorious in TAGGS
PSC TAGGS golf from the Hare House
Wednesday,
July 29 - Natural Park Resort Country Club
Pairs Scramble
1st: Moe Deverdenne and Dave Walsh, 76 gross, 65.4 net
2nd: Carl Baumann and Charlie Davlin, 74 gross, 69.0 net
3rd: Patrick Palmer and Bill Thompson, 80 gross, 72.0 net
The Alternative Golf Gentlemens Society (TAGGS) traveled up to
Natural Park Resort for a Pairs Scramble competition on Wednesday. It was an uncomfortably
hot and humid day that took its toll on the teams and their scores as the day wore on. In
the end it was a couple of the Hare Houses court "Jesters" who survived
the heat and rode over the field like they were on their Harleys. Moe Deverdenne, playing
off 17, and Dave Walsh, who has been a 36 handicap for as long as he has played golf,
teamed up for an extremely impressive 76 gross and 65.4 net.
The Pairs Scramble format , which averages the teams handicap and
then allows 40 percent, favors the lower handicap golfers. You would expect to see a team
like Carl Baumann and Charlie Davlin, whose handicaps average out to 12.5, to be up near
the top and indeed they came in second with a 74 gross and a 69 net. But that just makes
Moe and Daves win all that more noteworthy. Both these guys can crush the ball, but
it was their chipping and putting which won this tournament. "Its the best
Ive shot in a long time," allowed Dave. "Of course I havent played
for eight months." Moe was gracious in his praise for Daves game and gave him
plenty of credit for the win.
Rounding out the leader board in third place were Patrick Palmer and Bill
Thompson. Patrick, playing off 29, and Bill, who has an eleven handicap, had a fine gross
score of 80 which gave them a net even par 72.
Friday, July 31 - Siam Country Club
Stableford
1st: Charlie Davlin, 38 points
2nd: Jimmy Little, 33 points
3rd: Carl Baumann, 33 points
Charlie Davlin blitzed the field at the weekly TAGGS Stableford tournament
held at Siam Country Club on Friday, July 31. Playing off eleven, Charlie shot an 81 and
took first place with 38 Stableford points. In the same competition, Carl Baumann lost out
on second place in a count back with 33 points. This capped a pretty fair week for these
two golfers. Carl had won the weekly Stableford competition the week before at Natural
Park Hills. And sandwiched in between these two individual wins, was a team second place
in the Pairs Scramble held Wednesday at Natural Park Resort.
In second place with 33 points was Hare House regular Jimmy Little who
overcame a miserable start and picked up 20 points on the back nine.
Londoner retains narrow lead
After week 7, the Friday Premier Darts League is now
halfway through the season and Londoner still holds a narrow lead over Tippys.
Billy & Da and the Last Resort are hanging in 3rd and 4th places,
still with every chance to challenge the leaders.
The Texan seems to have lost a little bit of form the last couple of
weeks, the same as Sports Corner.
The Rose Garden are finding the pace a bit hot at the moment, but the
Thistle have got a taste for the beer as they have won two beer legs on the trot, but they
still cant find a way to actually win a match.
