The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok made an official visit to Pattaya last weekend. The Ambassador, H.E. Lars Wensell and Second Secretary Kjell Egge were at the Dusit Resort to announce the setting up of a Norwegian Consulate for Pattaya.

The new Honorary Consul is local businessman Stig Andersen, who now adds this post to his other Consulates for Sweden and Denmark.

The Vice Governor of Chonburi welcomed the Norwegians to Pattaya while the Ambassador spoke on the importance and high esteem held for Thailand by his country. Loyal toasts were held for the Kings, and finally the new Consul, Stig spoke on his honor in being made the representative for the 40,000 Norwegians who visit Thailand each year.

Local Norwegians were also very pleased to see the recognition being given to Pattaya, with Rotarian Jon Telefsen and Harald Tvaraen of Thai-Norway Tourist being prominent amongst them. The other well known Norwegian, "King Coin", a.k.a. Jan Olav Aamlid was unfortunately unable to attend, being in Norway on business.
