Aside from excellent food prepared by the chef and staff, the “Best Line” band from the Philippines entertained the audience.

The main event included a contest judging different categories of the Thai plant called “ton wasana”, or the plant of good fortune. Six months ago the Thai Garden Resort prepared 150 “ton wasana” saplings, distributing the plants out to patrons and friends in the community in preparation for judging the plant’s growth in six months time.

The contest was divided into three categories: the largest plant, the plant with the most stalks, and the puniest plant. The owners of each winning category were the happy recipients of a one-baht weight gold chain as a New Year’s gift and proof that the “ton wasana” plant is truly a plant of good fortune.

Mad Dogs and Englishman? The UK Club Walks for Charity

The intrepid walkers get ready to set out from the Bowling Green en route to Jomtien to raise money for charity.

In the midday sun, when most sensible people would prefer to either relax on the beach or quietly down an ale, the UK Club in their usual fashion organised a walk for charity from Pattaya to Jomtien.

The walk began at the reasonable hour of 11 a.m. on Sunday morning at the Bowling Green located in Soi Drarin, between Pattaya Third Road and Soi Buakhao. Around a dozen supporters, members and those just a little eccentric began their journey to Simple Simon’s in Soi 5 on Jomtien Beach Road. The trekkers weaved their way leisurely, stopping regularly for refreshments along the way, and one of their final stops before reaching their destination was the KR Bar, where, proprietor Apple donated funds to their worthy cause.

The worthy cause was the Redemptorist School for the Disabled, with the funds raised going towards the refurbishment of the ladies’ dormitory. Many of the sponsors were private individuals and by the end of the day just over 30,000 baht had been raised for charity.

Upon reaching their destination, the hungry walkers were treated to a buffet style lunch at Simple Simon’s and it was reported that a few drops of amber fluid flowed to take away the pain of tired legs.

The UK Club of Pattaya’s next event is a Charity Raffle and Auction at Ban Thai Restaurant, on Saturday 22 December. All the money collected will be presented to The Redemptorist School for the Disabled to help refurbish the Ladies Dormitories.
