The director of the Pattaya Redemptorist Vocational
School, Fr. Raymond A. Brennan, presided over a graduation ceremony on
December 12, presenting diplomas to 113 graduates.
The vocational school has been operating for more than
15 years and over 1,500 students with physical handicaps have graduated
from subjects taught at the school going on to become fully capable
participants in the work force and society.
Father
Ray Brennan hands a diploma to one of the school’s newest graduates.
The Pattaya Redemptorist School has been the recipient
of many honors and awards in the past, both in scholastic and athletic
achievements. Most recently, the school received awards at the Thai
Ability Fair. Organized by the ministry of labor, Fr. Brennan’s
vocational students won awards in three computer subject areas - server
connections, computer assembly and home page design.
This year’s graduation class of 113 students
consisted of 68 students from computer subjects and 55 students from the
course in electronics. A new subject has been added to the school’s
curriculum that is geared to computer related business by improving
proficiency in the English language.
An Indian experience for ISE
students
Grade
3 students from the International School Eastern Seaboard had an
opportunity recently to extend their social studies unit on India with a
visit to the Sikh Gurudawara and lunch at Alibaba Restaurant. They were
warmly welcomed at both places. Grade 3 students are shown here at the
Sikh Gurudawara learning about the tenth auru.
Christmas cheer at
International School of the Regents
Santa’s arrival caused quite a stir at ISR’s recent
Christmas Fair. All the children were very excited to see him alight from
his ‘carriage’ and gathered around to give him a special welcome.
Festive fun continued throughout the Fair with lots of
activities for the younger ones, including face painting, lucky dips,
Christmas craft and all sorts of games. Mums and Dads were able to shop at
the market stalls and relax in the coffee shop. All in all - a very
enjoyable morning for the whole family!
Ho!
Ho! Ho! Santa makes time to visit the ISR Christmas Fair. MERRY CHRISTMAS
EVERYONE!
Burapha University students
learn how Pattaya Mail is made
Assistant professor Sukanya Burandechanai, from Burapha
University, brought 25 sociology and mass communications students on an
educational field trip to the Pattaya Mail Newspaper Publishing Company on
December 12.
The Pattaya Mail office, located at 370/7-8, Moo 9, off
of Pattaya 2nd Road, first started in July 1993, with the plan of
publishing the first English language newspaper in Pattaya. The newspaper
is now distributed to readers all over Thailand, including major
businesses outside of the local area and copies are sent to various
embassies and VIPs in Thailand.
The students were introduced to the staff during a tour
through the offices, where they spent a few hours getting a first hand
look at the steps involved in assembling the newspaper’s weekly edition.
Burapha University is in the process of starting its
own newspaper offering mass communications students the opportunity to
gain experience in both theory and practice.
Starting with the basic function of reporters
collecting the news in Pattaya and other areas in the eastern region, the
students observed the other steps involved in producing a newspaper.
Students visited the newsroom, the budget office, the sales and marketing
section, and the computer graphics section.
Afterwards, the students paid a visit to Pattaya
Mail’s printer, 87 Prin, located in Soi Photisarn in Naklua, and
following the tour the students enjoyed a luncheon prepared at the Sher E
Punjab opposite the Woodland Resort Hotel on Pattaya-Naklua Road.
