Christmas in Pattaya

Pattaya was buzzing during Christmas with many of the city’s hotels and restaurant putting on their own unique brand of entertainment for their guests.

Some started the evening with an early service at St. Nikolaus Church, where children reenacted the theme of the Christmas Story.

Later, at the Queen Victoria Inn on Soi 6, the choir from the Pattaya Orphanage sang Christmas Carols outside the pub. Proprietors Vic and Bert donated funds raised from the sale of draught beer to the orphanage children’s fund, and the donation box was being filled throughout the day.

Hotels such as the Marriott Resort and Spa, Hard Rock Hotel and Dusit Resort each hosted a dinner and shows for their guests.

The Thai Garden Resort had Santa Claus do a quick run around the pool before handing out gifts to children in the audience.

Santa was certainly busy, and his next stop was at the Green Tree Pub on Beach Road where he again handed out gifts to both children and adults before heading back out to deliver to the rest of the world.

Angels come in all shapes and sizes.

The Diana Inn held their own party around the pool with shows, live music and a special Cabaret with performers from Chachoengsao.

Before the night was over the Royal Cliff Beach Resort held their annual midnight mass with Father Raymond Brennan officiating at communion and leading the prayer service to celebrate Christmas 2001.

At around midnight, fireworks lit up the night skies around Pattaya signifying Christmas Day, 2001 years after the birth of Christ.

Heartt 2000 - Help Ensure Aids Rescue in Thailand Together

Heartt 2000 is a project of Dr. Philippe Seur who worked for many years in Saudi Arabia. In December of 1998, his life was to change forever, when he was approached by an acquaintance who had a Thai friend who was infected with HIV and suffering from the first stages of AIDS and the opportunistic diseases that come with that condition. The patient was unable to afford hospital treatment, so Dr. Philippe treated him free of charge.

Word got out, and today Dr. Philippe has more than 400 patients from Pattaya, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and other towns. All of these patients heard of Dr. Philippe by word of mouth and they have formed their own informal support groups so that they can help each other.

Dr. Philippe has dedicated himself to treating AIDS patients and today he relies solely on sponsors to keep going. His patients are able to help by paying what they can afford towards the drugs they must have on an ongoing basis to remain alive.

Dr. Philippe works from home, but in close liaison with Dr. Jururawat, chief doctor of the Chonburi Public Hospital, to whom he refers patients needing hospitalisation. He has become an expert on the treatment of HIV and AIDS and has pioneered some forms of treatment. He buys the drugs from the cheapest possible sources and of course the good news is that prices of these drugs are now beginning to come down.

Dr. Philippe needs urgent financial assistance to continue his work. He and his operation need all the help that we can give. Please join us at the Mini Golf Tournament at PolTony’s Restaurant & Mini Golf at Thappraya Road Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd February 2002 (10 a.m. till late). Entrance fees: 200 Bt for adults, 100 Bt children.

Saturday Dinner (by reservation) 1000 baht, of which 500 baht will be given to Heartt 2000. For reservations call PolTony’s on 038-250 318.
