The Queen Vic Inn collects B30,000 for Pattaya Orphanage
The Queen Victoria Inn on Soi 6 made a worthwhile trip
to the Pattaya Orphanage after collecting almost 30,000 baht. The donation
was the result of the Queen Vic’s efforts over the Christmas period by
placing the donation box prominently inside the pub. Funds collected from
sales of draft beer on Christmas Eve and generous donations from customers
were presented to Father Patrick Morrissey by Middy Campbell on behalf of
the Queen Victoria Inn’s proprietors Vic and Bert, both of whom
preferred to remain in the background.

After presenting the donation box, the group of
friends, customers, guests and the staff from the Queen Vic were given a
tour of the orphanage. Guests were given an explanation of the daily
routine involved, including the supervision of 200 children living on the
premises. The visitors learned about the history of the orphanage, the
various measures taken to keep operating costs down, and how to maximize
the benefits for the children, most of whom were doing what children do
best, enjoying their childhood.
The orphanage relies entirely on donations from various
public and private organizations from around the world to keep five
projects going and looking after 700 children, adults and staff. The five
locations are the Pattaya Orphanage, the Street Kids Home in Banglamung,
the Redemptorist Vocational College for the Disabled, the School for the
Blind and the School for the Deaf. At all 5 projects, food, accommodation,
education and everyday needs are provided for each and every resident.
After the tour through the Orphanage the group then
ventured out to the Banglamung Street Kids Home, where almost 100 children
reside. Then it was back to the Queen Victoria Inn on Soi 6 where Jimmy
and Bobby played live country classics for the hungry group. A “chuck’
wagon” was setup outside selling burger and hot dogs. The Queen Victoria
Inn plans more activities in the future to do their bit for today’s
children and help make a better future for all.

Wine Club kicks off the New Year with 10,000 baht bottles!
by Miss Terry Diner
The Royal Cliff Wine Club’s first wine tasting for
2002 was a complete sell-out, as the Siam Ballroom A was filled to
capacity with wine enthusiasts wishing to try fine wines from the world
famous Italian Cesari vineyards. Wine Club captain, Ranjith Chandrasiri
was joined by Carlos Vale of Cesari Wines, who had arrived in Thailand
that evening, and Erik Cornetet from the Italthai Cellars.
The
Royal Cliff’s Siam Ballroom A was filled to capacity with wine
enthusiasts at the Wine Club’s first wine tasting for 2002.
After the tasting of five styles of Cesari wines, for
the first time ever, the room was deadlocked with three wines awarded
first place by the Wine Club. However, this was after the facilitators
Ranjith, Carlos and Erik added in their casting votes.
The three top wines were a Franco Cesari Barolo 1995, a
Cesari Amarone della Valpolicella 1997 and a Cesari Recioto della
Valpolicella 1998. These were no cheap “out the back door” specials
either, ranging in price from B.7,000 to 9,750.
The next grand occasion for the Wine Club members will
be the Winemakers Gala Dinner to be held in the Grand Ballroom on the 28th
of February. This will be a six course gourmet dinner with four vintage
wines of the Chateau Branaire Ducru Grand Cru Classe. The guests will be
given descriptions of the wines by the winemakers themselves who are
flying in from France to do the presentations. It will be necessary to
book for this event.
The Wine Club can be contacted on 038-250 421 ext. 2782
or email wineclub@ royalcliff.com.
