Geckos, Cobras and Tigers do battle in GIS annual sports day

The Garden International School, located in Ban Chang, recently held their annual inter-house sports day. Students and teachers were divided into three teams. The Geckos in green, Cobras in Blue and the Tigers in Red. The three teams battled it out for the title of Inter-house Champions for 2002.

UNICEF Ambassador for Thailand Anand Panyarachun enjoyed the day with his friends.

Track and field events such 50 meter, 100 meter and 200 meter races were held with the same distances also including relays races, high jump, and standing long jump. There were also fun events as well.

A cobra leads the relay race.

The fun events included egg and spoon races, water carrying, hockey ball races and a slow bike race event.

Special visitor on the day was Anand Panyarachun, Thailand’s Ambassador for UNICEF, who is also on the board of directors for the school. Anand took time out from his busy schedule to visit the school and interact with some of the students.

We still have a chance! Time to turn on the afterburners.

The remaining day’s competition was fierce, with the Gecko’s taking top spot, squeaking by the second place slithering Cobras, as the Tigers tailed behind in third place.

All who participated and all who supported had a great day.


Thamasart University celebrates 5th anniversary and opens new Learning Resort

Chonburi governor Chadej Insawang presided over a ceremony on February 9, opening the new Learning Resort located on 40 rai of land near km marker 12 on the Chonburi - Rayong Road.

Also celebrated was the Thamasart University Banglamung campus five-year anniversary, which first opened on February 10, 1997, located on 565 rai of land opposite the Bira Circuit in Banglamung.

The new Learning Resort recently opened at Thamasart University in Banglamung.

Aside from the university’s locations in Bangkok and Banglamung, there are other centers of higher learning affiliated with Thamasart in Pathum Thani and Lampang.

Chancellor of Thamasart University, Dr. Naris Chaisutra, and the director of higher academic learning, Dr. Praphon Phasukyerd, along with the vice-president of the Chonburi provincial administrative organization, Rewat Phonlook-In and many distinguished guests from around the Eastern Seaboard attended the opening ceremony.

The new addition was built under the concept of learning in a relaxed environment and offers 13 conference rooms. The largest room is capable of accommodating 500 people and is fully equipped with state of the art technical support for seminars and conferences.

An administrative staff is assigned to the new addition coordinating activities, and includes a computer learning center, playhouse, student dining facility, a swimming pool and modern exercise room.

Rotary raises 1.3 million baht for children

The Rotary Club of Bangkok South raised more than 1.3 million baht at their annual “Coins on Silom” collection held recently. All the money raised will be donated to various charities for handicapped and disadvantaged children in Thailand.
