Fifty-six students from Netherlands here to study tourism in Thailand
By Elfi Seitz
The Netherlands Institute for Tourism Studies (NHTV) of
the Breda University of Professional Education has sent 56 young students
to participate in a two-week educational trip here. “Joining seminars
and interviewing managers in hotels and tourist offices are also part of
their studies,” said Bartjan de Keijzer, lecturer in tourism management
of the Breda University and leader of the trip.
After visiting places like Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai,
Sukhotai, Kanchanaburi, Pitsanulok and Bangkok, they finished up in
Pattaya for their last seminar, held at the Thai Garden Resort.
56
students from the Netherlands Institute for Tourism Studies (NHTV) of the
Breda University of Professional Education enjoyed the final stop of their
Thailand tour at the Thai Garden Resort.
The last seminar was titled “Sex Tourism in
Thailand”, and was given by the manager for the Netherlands & Nordic
Countries of Tourismo Thai, Niels Steeman. Steeman brought up for
discussion all the important points concerning this rather “hot”
topic. The young people showed avid interest and a barrage of questions
poured forth. Steeman explained that Pattaya was trying very hard to get
away from this sex tourism image, but still has a long way to go.
The students, who stayed for a few days at the Thai
Garden Resort, were tired from traveling around Thailand, but nonetheless
enthusiastically celebrated the end of their educational field trip.
They had a great time at the Moon River Pub, where they
held their farewell party. After gorging on the sumptuous buffet they all
danced and sang to the sounds of the Caribbean/Filipino Band “Colours”.
Not only the band looked colorful, but also the young guests, since the
students and teachers were clad in orange dresses and funny-looking
costumes.
They were also celebrating the birthday of Her Majesty,
Queen Beatrix from the Netherlands, which fell on the same day. Naturally,
they sang the Dutch Anthem in honor of the Queen. Happy Birthday!

The “march” commenced at Laurie’s Bar, Soi 14
Second Road on April 23 at 1 p.m. After drinks and sandwiches were
consumed, all participants moved on to 007 Bar in Soi 13, then on to Nice
and Sleazy, Jungle Bar (with more sandwiches supplied), Nervous Wreck and
the Ritz, all in Soi Yamoto.
St
George “marchers” ready for their grueling feat on April 23.
From there it was a stroll up Second Road to Classroom
and then around the corner to Soi Pattayaland 1 with hot chips and more
sandwiches to restore everyone’s energy to continue on until the early
hours of the morning.
The day was declared a success with plans for a bigger
and longer “march” next year.
Shirts commemorating the day might still be available
from Dave at the Nervous Wreck.
Dutch Dance Orchestra swings at the Thai Garden Resort
Twenty-one musicians from Holland, the Dutch Dance
Orchestra, presented a two hour bonanza of retro music for a packed and
appreciative audience at the Thai Garden Resort last week.
The
Dutch Dance Orchestra performed before an appreciative audience at the
Thai Garden Resort.
It was Glen Miller, the Andrews Sisters and all the
classics of the “swing” era that held the attention of the audience,
with the two vocalists even dressed in the appropriate war time garb to
heighten the effect.
The tour, which is one that helps various charities in
this country, was arranged by one of Holland’s largest tour agencies,
Special Journey Company.
The Thai Garden Resort venue was the only Pattaya stop,
with the other concerts being at the Dusit Thani in Bangkok.

Nong
Nooch management and local newshounds have a little fun testing their
voices at karaoke during the park’s Press Family day festivities.
During the evening, newshounds and their families were
treated to dinner and a show along with lucky draws and karaoke.
Sodawan Buransiri, general manager of Nong Nooch said
that Nong Nooch has recently opened accommodation facilities for Thai and
international tourists so they can relax in the natural surroundings of
the gardens as well as learn Thai culture and history through the many
shows there. The accommodation is a new aspect for Nong Nooch in an effort
to draw more tourists to the region by offering a different setting from
the traditional resort style accommodation.
