The Regent’s School Summer Concert
Recently students from the Regent’s School presented
their annual Summer Music Concert at the Cholchan Hotel. The special guest
of honour for the evening was Patricia Metham, principal elect.
The
Regent’s School Jazz Band in action.
A wide variety of music was performed, reflecting the
diverse areas of musical activity covered by the Regent’s Music
Department. Items ranged from wonderful toe-tapping melodies presented by
the vocal groups and choirs, to more formal individual pieces and
compositions prepared by senior students as part of their ongoing course
work. Primary students in the Blues Brothers Vocal Group even had the
audience singing along!
The
Regent’s String Ensemble.
The evening’s program finished with the 40-piece
orchestra and combined choir presenting “My Heart Will Go On”, a
brilliant finale to a wonderful concert. Special thanks go to Mark
Bradshaw, director of music, and his team, Helen Eddis and Brendan Magee
for their commitment to the continuing development of the Regent’s music
program.
MCCI helps preserve local environment on World Earth Day
As part of the World Earth Day celebrations, Montessori
Children’s Center International did their bit to preserve the local
environment.
Performing
skits is a good way to spread the message that it is up to us to preserve
our environment.
World Earth Day is held annually and is aimed at
promoting awareness about preserving the environment. MCCI took World
Earth Day one-step further by promoting environmental awareness among its
students in a weeklong program.
Cleaning
up our environment can be fun!
MCCI’s Earth Week came to end with students, teachers
and parents participating in a multitude of activities in and around the
school and along the adjacent beachfront. The activities were held with a
fun aspect and the students enjoyed ‘doing their bit’ for the local
environment by cleaning up the school grounds, recycling various items,
and watching skits and plays performed by student and teachers.
The world’s future belongs in the hands of today’s
children and promoting awareness at a young age about the importance of
environmental issues is the best way to protect the future. Think globally
- act locally.
We need teachers!
If you are either an English native speaker or a
speaker of English as a second language, who wants to volunteer to teach
English to underprivileged and disabled youths in Thailand, we, at the
Redemptorist Vocational School for the Disabled’s English Department
would like to invite you to join in our teaching faculty.
The English Department mainly offers basic English
courses to disabled youths, aged 17-35, in three study programs, namely:
Electronics, Computer Science, and Computer Business Management (in
English). It aims to prepare these disadvantaged youths for their
prospective careers. We understand employers highly value the ability to
communicate in English and believe these youths can accomplish this
challenging because they are all young, lively, and eager to learn.
We are running two terms in a year, each of which
starts at the beginning of May and November. There are two one-month
vacations in April and October in an academic year. Unfortunately, many of
our volunteers have a temporary stay in Thailand, so this affects our
curriculum because we run out of teachers in the middle of the term. A
single class sometimes has two or more teachers in the same term.
Therefore we need your help to teach English to all these young adults.
The volunteer teachers will receive free boarding and food, their
dedication and efforts will make the life of the disabled very much
worthwhile and we highly appreciate it on behalf of the students.
If you are interested, please contact Chanasta Ruenyen
at the English Department at tel. (038) 716 247-248 or [email protected]
We are looking forward to hearing your reply, or you
can drop by our school and have a chat any time.
