Pattaya UK Club back on track and raising funds for charity
Over 50,000 baht raised in
pub crawl
Would-be
pub-crawlers at the Queen Victoria Inn just before venturing out into the
wilds of Soi 6. The event raised over 50,000 baht for charity.
The UK Club of Pattaya, which has kept a low profile
this year to sort itself out, recently re-emerged with a bang, this time
to raise funds for a new charity, the Camillian Centre for Aids in Rayong.
The event was a pub-crawl for charity and there was no shortage of
participants.
Starting off at the very English Queen Victoria Inn on
Soi 6 with a few ales, over 25 would-be crawlers weaved their way to a
number of pubs on Soi 6 before venturing onto Soi 7. Obviously, the first
stretch was too much for some, for by the time they reached Soi 7 the
group had shrunk slightly in numbers. That didn’t deter the hardened fun
raisers as they continued on crawling (not really, they bussed it),
selling raffle tickets and collecting donations along the way.
On to Soi 7, destination the Pig & Whistle, where
hosts Andrew and Ron led group, by this time sizably smaller and well
lubricated, in a round at ‘The Pig’. After a few more ales it was time
for the raffle draw.
By this time most of the crawlers were primed for the
raffle, which had prizes including dinners at the Sportsman, the Queen Vic
and a stuffed dog. The dog, the main prize, was won by a visiting British
paratrooper who then donated it back for auction. Since the proceeds went
to charity, many bidders made this a spirited event, and in the end the
paratrooper defied all other bidders and bought back the dog for over
3,500 baht.
Next up on the auction block was dinner for two at the
Queen Vic, with owner Vic King upping the bid from 100 to 500 baht. The
bidding banter continued until Andrew Hutching, one of the owners of the
Pig & Whistle eventually won, all in the name of charity, of course.
Overall, this was another successful event for the UK Club of Pattaya,
raising over 50,000 baht for the children born with AIDS under the care of
the Camillian Center in Rayong.

Romeijn returns to Renoir’s
The celebrated Dutch magician Henk Romeijn, who has
previously shown his skills in Pattaya, returned to perform in front of a
huge dinner group at Renoir’s Restaurant within the Flamingo Hotel. His
consummate artistry comes from the fact that he performs at the table in
front of his audience. This is not a long-range sleight of hand, but you can
sit there and practically touch him as he performs his tricks.

The GM of the Flamingo, Jaap Klasema promises that he too
will perform a magic trick and make Henk Romeijn appear again, despite his
