Jesters Charity Drive Pub Night

By Kim Fletcher

On Saturday September 21st, the weekend after the Jesters Children’s Fair which is on Sunday September 15th at the Diana Garden Lodge & Driving Range, it is the Jesters Charity Drive Pub Night. That is exactly six days after the Fair and the BT Insurance sponsored 50 Kilometer Bike Ride, which hopefully means that all of the Riders will have returned. (50 Kilometers is a really long way, trust me). The Pub Night this year will be held at Shenanigans, which is next door to the Royal Garden Resort on Second Road.

The Fair is definitely the day for the Family especially the Kids, whereas the Pub Night is a chance for the Old Kids to get out there and shake their Booty. What better excuse could you ever have to go out and let your hair down, when everything you Eat, Drink, or Buy on the Night is are helping the Kids in need.

This years’ Pub Night will follow last years successful pattern by kicking off with the now famous Slave Auction. Donald MacGraham will again be selling off a fine selection of Servants collected from the Pattaya Panthers and Panties Rugby Club. For just a few Baht you can hire yourself your own Butler or Maid for the night to fetch and carry your drinks, and do little odd jobs for you. Of course this is all in theory, as last year it did not take long before there was a bit of a slave uprising and certain slaves were seen buying themselves drinks while the buyer went thirsty. One slave was even seen negotiating her freedom before the auction, so buy with care.

After this the serious fun begins with live music supplied by Pop’s Pattaya All Stars (Their Triple CD ‘ Play Something You Know ‘ will be available on the night. Three hours of great music for 350 baht and all proceeds going to charity), plus many special guest artists. Any one with more bravado than talent will also have the opportunity to show off their hidden talents when the karaoke comes out later in the evening. Another way of also collecting money will be to pay the Landlord to turn the infernal machine off halfway through the 20th rendition of ‘My Way’.

Andy Francis will be emceeing the evening, during which he will be auctioning off many items such as a recently signed Caribao, T-shirt signed by Steven Segal; a football signed by all of the Liverpool Football team; two framed portraits of The Beatles, from the Abbey Road Cover which has George Best super-imposed and signed by the Soccer legend; an England cricket bat signed by the whole team. Stephen Leather will also be at the Pub Night, to sign copies of his latest book, and also to auction off a part in his next action thriller. You can actually become a character in the book, and as most of Stephens’s books are later made into movies, you can see whom they cast to play you, Tom Cruise, or Naomi Campbell? Stephan Ryser got it last year and you can read about him in Stephen’s last thriller ‘The Stretch’.

During the night there will also be tickets available for the Grand Raffle which is drawn at Midnight, with lots of truly wonderful prizes including two return air fares to Australia supplied by British Airways/Quantas, plus four other Airline tickets, TV’s, DVD players, and accommodation packages from Hotels all over Thailand.

So the Jesters Pub Night is a very special occasion, and the finale to hopefully another very successful Charity Drive. Thank you everybody for your support in advance. See you at the Bar.
