Students from ten Pattaya schools participated in a 3-week interscholastic
sports competition for all students in the region. The event was called the
“Pattaya School Day 2002” and was held at Pattaya School #7 (Nongpungkhae).
Wattana Chantanawaranont, Pattaya deputy mayor presided over the opening
ceremony, which was attended by Pattaya city council members, teachers and
more than 1,000 students.
Students
from ten Pattaya schools dressed up in their best outfits to cheer on their
school’s athletes.
The event began with an enthusiastic and colorful parade of student
athletes. Ten teams competed, one each from Pattaya schools #1 to 10. The
competition included athletics, football, volleyball and other games.
Yaowadee Musikkathaworn, director of the education office said, “The games
began August 19th and continued until September 6th. The purpose of the
project was to encourage students to participate in sports for good health,
teach them to manage their time in wholesome ways and educate them about the
problems of drug use. This event also gave us a good chance to select the
area’s best athletes who could participate in the upcoming 20th Pattaya City
and Municipality Sports Competition”.
Chonburi Family & Children’s Rehabilitation Program
opens to local fanfare
Chief Justice, Region 2, Banchai
Sermwong was the honorary speaker for the opening ceremony.
Monday, 5th of September noted the official opening of
the Chonburi Family & Children’s Rehabilitation Program, a new program
initiated by the union of Family Court Judges in Chonburi Province.
(L
to R) Mike Franklin, John Cole of the Diana Group, ‘Woody’ from the Jesters
MC, Carl Engel, president of the PSC.
Sponsored by the Pattaya Sports Club, this program is aimed towards young,
soon to be released, and first time offenders detained at the Chonburi
Children’s Observation & Detention Center.
The project takes the form of a camp, and attending are young offenders due
for release, the offender’s parents, and counselors & helpers who will
attempt to 1.) Improve the parent/child relationship; 2.) Instill a sense of
pride and self esteem in the children and their families; and 3.) Address
other problems that may adversely affect the children on their return to
society such as peer pressure and drugs.
It is the PSC’s hope that this program will help to prevent children from
committing future crimes and returning to the detention center. There are
currently over four hundred young offenders at this Observation & Detention
Center, and half of those children are from Pattaya.
The Pattaya Sports Club sponsored 50 children at a cost of 1,000 baht per
child. PSC would like to wish all the participants of this program great
success. It benefits all to give these children as much opportunity as
possible while they are still young.
If you would like more information on this project, or if you would like to
make a donation, please contact the PSC charity chairman, Bernie Tuppin at
