Did you know that there are thousands of caring Danish
young people who have aspired to come to Thailand to do volunteer work at
the Pattaya Orphanage?

Louise, Katrine, Camilla, Ina, Christine, Louise, Camilla, Katrine, Carina,
Susanne, Anja and Ken enjoying Thai style-Danish hospitality.
“Father Ray is so well known and loved in Denmark,”
said Susanne, one of the volunteers from Copenhagen. “A great number of
Danes have pledged themselves to do whatever they can to help him in his
most noble cause to care for orphans. It may seem strange to some people to
hear that young individuals such as ourselves would want to fly half way
across the world, give up our time and money, abandon all the luxuries and
comforts of home, just to take care of these unfortunate children. But to us
it’s just our way of saying that we are aware of the hardships and
sufferings of so many children in the world and want to play our small part
in helping to lighten their burden and bring some happiness into their
hearts.”
Last week, Ib and Kannikar Ottesen hosted a dinner for the volunteers at
the Captain’s Corner to say, we care for you too.

Rotary Club of Pattaya holds social dance party to raise funds for kids’ bicycles
Vichan Pladplueng
President of Rotary Club of Pattaya, Nit Duangdee
presided over the opening of a Rotary social dance party at the Banglamung
Vocational College in Chonburi where members and guests kicked up their
heels for charity. The funds raised will go towards the purchase of bicycles
for children who have difficulty traveling to school in rural areas.
Honored
guests take to the floor to kick up their heels for the Rotary Bikes for
Kids project.
Held on September 30th, many Rotary Club members in the
Pattaya and Chonburi region, including past district governor of 3340,
Premprecha Dibbayawan, and past district governor, Som Intrapayung, and many
distinguished guests joined the party.
Past district governor of district 3340, from years
1999-2000, Somchai Jiaranaiphanit, initiated the Bicycles for Kids project.
The campaign aims to raise money to buy 10,000 bicycles
to present to children who have to travel daily over a distance of 3
kilometers to schools. The youngsters will return the bicycles when they
finished their schooling. That way the bikes can be passed on to others who
need them. The club believes that well-behaved children who study hard
should be rewarded by getting assistance to continue their education.
The Bikes for Kids project is also a tribute to president of Rotary
International Bhichai Rattakul, who is the first Thai to hold this honorable
position.
