Long boat races make big splash

A huge crowd gathered at the Mabprachan Reservoir last weekend to watch a 2-day event featuring traditional long boat races. Held at the dam on Siam Country Club Road, viewers stood along the banks of the reservoir and wildly cheered as the rowers showed their athletic prowess and competed against each other in the spirit of friendly rivalry.

Boats have always played an important role in Thai society. Throughout history communities along the rivers, klongs and waterways of the kingdom have depended on boats for fishing and transporting goods.

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms

The romance of the three kingdoms is a beautiful old Chinese legend that actually deals with history.

An older and a young man recruit the lady of their heart and finally fight for her; which leads one to death while the other one may bring her home. It is, despite the bloody end, a tender history, which touches the hearts of all those who read the book. This age-old Chinese legend (there is book in the English language in Pattaya) is still discussed today by magazine-reading clubs, and by scholars at regular meetings.

The magic of movies

An advertising campaign for Visa Card International was recently filmed around Bangkok. The television commercial involved a tuk tuk, James Bond (Pierce Brosnan), and some big action sequences, which were shot through traffic jams, markets, a restaurant, a billboard and a construction tunnel.

The tuk tuk was airborne most of the time and James Bond was taking a back seat in the action, literally.

The management and staff of Dusit Resort Pattaya Hotel led by general manager Chatchawal Supachayanont, together with Dusit and Royal Princess Hotels & Resorts and Thai International Rent A Car Company recently organized a donation to Wat Krasung, Srisaket Province.
