delicious lunch for the school children. In all, 13 scholarships were handed
over to deserving students.
The YWCA, which was originally set up to assist the
community and those less fortunate, has made an annual donation of
scholarship to the Larn Island School.
The school is the smallest of the 10 government-run
schools in Pattaya with a total 414 students from pre-school up to 9th
grade.
Parents of the children who attend the school on Larn
Island gain income from the tourist industry and rarely have enough to
completely support the educational needs of their children.
The donated funds were raised through a number of YWCA
activities, a donation by the Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya and private
donations.
The 13 students who received scholarship funding will
attend the YWCA’s annual ‘Warm Family Day’, scheduled to be held on
Thursday November 21 on the 5th floor of Mike Shopping Mall, where the
school will receive an additional donation of 3,000 baht towards for school
lunches and another 5,000 baht allocated for the school library.
Students from all of the city’s 10 schools who have received
scholarships will also attend the event. Teachers and school representatives
have arranged to show off the youngsters’ talents by putting on shows and
skits in appreciation for the charitable work that affords them a basic
right to an education.
