celebrated their 10th anniversary.

Preecha Kamolbutr, deputy governor of Chonburi, Mayor
Pairat Suttithamrongsawat, William E. Heinecke, CEO of of Minor Group and
directors of the Royal Garden Plaza gave Her Royal Highness a warm welcome
at the water spring fountain.
Somphorn Naksuetrong, general manager of Ripley’s
Museum presented a 3D portrait of HRH the Princess, before the special
performances started to roll for the occasion.
After the show, HRH the Princess toured the plaza and the Ripley’s 3D
Plus Moving Theatre. This newest toy in town provides packs of fun and
thrills for viewers. The anniversary was then officially marked as HRH
Princess Ubolratana pressed the button to light up the 10th anniversary
sign.
VIPS visit venue for WYSTC 2003
Preparations are already underway for the major World
Youth and Students Travel Conference (WYSTC) which is to take place at the
Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall (PEACH) in October 2003.

facilities.
WYSTC 2003 is expected to attract approximately 2,000
delegates from all over the world, including buyers and sellers of travel
related products geared towards youth and students.
The youth and student segment of the travel industry is one of the
fastest growing inbound markers in Thailand with visitors aged 25 or lower
accounting for 15.15% of the total arrivals into the country in 2001.
Hard Rock Hotel throws a party for Banglamung Home for the Elderly

The management and staff of the Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya
chose a novel and most benevolent way to celebrate the King’s 75th
birthday.
Some of
the elders “played” the fun “ngu kin hang” game.
GM Andrew Khoo, Mark Rummery, executive assistant
manager, and hotel employees invited citizens from the Banglamung Home for
the Elderly to celebrate HM the King’s Birthday on December 5th at the
hotel. It turned out to be great fun for all involved, as everyone danced,
sang, and made close friends with our most valued and respected citizens.
Later in the evening, at exactly 19:39 hrs, everyone
there joined with people from across the kingdom to light candles, sing the
King’s song and wish our beloved monarch “long live the King”.
The
group of senior citizens gathered with the Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya staff to
take a picture to help preserve the memories of a great day.
Andrew said he and his staff were happy to invite the
elder citizens from the home to the Hard Rock Hotel for dinner and play some
games together, which brought smiles and laughter to the everyone there.
The GM added that he and his crew wanted to give something back to
society. For some time now, the hotel has been providing funds to the home
to help cover expenses.
Marriott Resort and Spa commemorates His Majesty the King’s Birthday with a jazz night at Sala Rimnam

Somsak Tanruengsri, general manager of Marriott Resort
and Spa, Pattaya organized a jazz night at the Sala Rim Nam authentic Thai
restaurant on December 5th in celebration of His Majesty the King’s 75th
Birthday. Fireworks lit the sky at 21.00 hrs and brightened the sky.
The
Jazz Tet Band, the highlight of the event, played a number of popular jazz
tunes alongside the pool.
Guests were served exquisite international cuisine, while

Jazz music is one of the King’s favorite choices of
music. The King is an accomplished musician who could, if he chose to, play
professionally instruments such as the saxophone, clarinet and trumpet.
He has been known to join with Thai jazz bands and
display his talent during solo sessions. He also played with musicians at
the international level abroad. During His trip to the USA in 1960, He was
invited to play with Benny Goodman, xylophonist Jack Teagarden, trumpet
player Lionel Hampton, and tenor saxophonist Stan Getz, all of whom were
very impressed with His Majesty the King’s musical talent.
The King honed his knowledge of music at the music school in Switzerland.
His favorite jazz players include saxophonists Sydney Bechet and Johnny
Hodges, and the pianist Duke Ellington.
Pattaya running club organizes HM the King’s Birthday running festival

Anupong Udomrattanakulchai, president of the Pattaya
Running for Health Club, and Suwanna Supphacharthraisorn, president of
Pattaya’s Love for Health Club organized a run for health to honor His
Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great on His 75th birthday.
The
health lovers made their way down Pratamnak Hill carrying a portrait of
their beloved King high in the air.
Over 500 runners of all ages, genders and nationalities
turned up and started the race from the Tourism Authority of Thailand region
3 office at Pratamnak Hill at 15.00 hrs. The fleet of foot ran down from the
hill to the Pattaya Central Road junction and made a turn down to Beach Road
and up again to the Rama 9 Garden on Pratamnak Hill.
The happy runners also proved they could carry a tune, as along the way
they sang the “Royal Salute Song”. At Rama 9 Garden, Thai and foreign
nationalities lit candles, paid their respects and sent their best wishes to
the King at 19.39 hrs, which turned out to be one of the most memorable and
stunning scenes. It was also a learning experience for some, as they learnt
that people have great love towards their beloved King.
7th Annual SOS Rice begins in Pattaya

This year’s S.O.S. Rice officially began on December
1st and kicked off in full swing as banners announced the annual fundraiser,
which acquires much needed rice and funds to support various charitable
functions, young children and disadvantaged families.
Sanga Kijsamred, owner of S.K. Construction Company
chairs this year’s SOS Rice drive. The program collects cash donations and
a large quantity of rice will be collected throughout Pattaya.
At the launch the schedule of events was announced. Part
1 ran from December 4 to 8, promoting the SOS Rice project and collections
began.
Part 2 will run from January 31 to February 2 and
features donation points around the city where residents and tourists can
make donations of rice.
During Part 3 companies around the Eastern Seaboard
industrial estates will be asked for donations of rice and or cash.
The SOS Rice drive continues until the end of January
with collection points and donation boxes located in supermarkets, banks,
restaurants, bars and hotels all over Pattaya, including Central Festival
Center, Mikes Shopping Mall, Friendship Supermarket, Foodland, King Seafood
on Walking Street and in front of the P72 Hotel also located on Walking
Street.
The SOS Rice program was first organized by Belgium
businessman Didier Frere in 1986. At that time 30,000 baht was raised among
friends and associates and turned over to Father Ray at the Pattaya City
Orphanage.
The program has continued each year with local businessmen assisting and
promoting the fundraiser. SOS Rice has expanded into a program that still
supports the orphanage along with a long list of other charitable services
in surrounding communities including area schools.
Thai Food Promotion to feature on USA TV program
The Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa, led by the
executive Thai chef Boonchom Thipsoda, together with Tommy Tang, a US TV
correspondent, recently featured the chef’s innovative
‘East-meets-West’ menus at the resort’s poolside. These menus combine
some of the most delicious Thai and Western ingredients for a perfect
balance. This cooking demonstration will be broadcast in the USA as a part
of Tommy’s cooking series.
