Air-India recommences flights to Frankfurt

Air-India recommenced operations to Frankfurt, the business and cargo hub of Europe, on December 8. The flights, which will be operated with Boeing 747-300 Combi aircraft on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays on the Mumbai-Delhi-Frankfurt sector, will offer convenient connections to nearly 50 cities in Germany, Western and Eastern Europe.

Two classes of travel will be offered on the Combi aircraft - Executive and Economy - and Air-India’s product in the Executive Class of the Combi aircraft will be enhanced with the installation of ‘slumberettes’ with a recline of 160 degrees.

Air-India also operates 3 weekly flights to Paris and 11 flights a week to London. Additionally, the airline also has a code share arrangement with Air France for 3 weekly flights between Paris and Frankfurt, and 7 flights a week with Lufthansa - 3 between Mumbai and Frankfurt and 4 between Delhi and Frankfurt.

Attractive, flexible fares will be available to passengers traveling by Air-India to Europe; this means a passenger can travel to Amsterdam via Frankfurt and return via London.

Germany, being one of the largest tourism source markets and a major trade partner for India, Air-India’s new flights will meet the demands of the burgeoning European tourist and business market. Moreover, Frankfurt, with its excellent trucking network is an ideal cargo hub in Europe and Air-India’s Combi flights will provide ample cargo capacity.

United Airlines says it’s still in business

United Airlines issued a press release to thank its many valued customers for their interest in the actions the airline is taking to change the way it does business to keep pace with the changing airline industry.

Over the past year, the entire travel industry has faced a number of serious challenges as a result of the general economic slowdown and the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

United has been working to bring its costs in line with reduced revenues, and while the airline has made some progress, it recently became clear that it was necessary to restructure their business through a section of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code called ‘Chapter 11’.

Chapter 11 permits companies to reorganize under court supervision as they continue to operate. It is different from bankruptcy as it is known in many countries. During a Chapter 11 proceeding, United remains in control of its operations, which continue while the company develops a plan of reorganization.

This filing does not mean that United is going out of business. On the contrary, this action enables United to make the changes necessary to secure its future while continuing to meet customers’ needs.

During the reorganization of the company under Chapter 11 the company said it wants to inform customers that their top priority continues to be providing them with safe, reliable and high-quality service.

United Airlines and United Express (operated by regional airline partners) flights continue to operate.

Reservations, ticketing and refunds will continue as usual.

Mileage Plus members will continue to be able to accrue and redeem mileage as always.

Red Carpet Clubs, First Class lounges and Arrivals by United facilities remain open and ready to serve members.

United Airlines stressed that it is committed to remaining one of the world’s premier airlines, providing customers with access to United’s and Star Alliance’s extensive global route network, convenient schedules and services that make flying experience more enjoyable. Ultimately, the Chapter 11 process will enable the company to do that more efficiently and effectively.
