Pattaya Mail Plus! launched at Bartercard Networking Night

The Bartercard networking night in Pattaya last week was notable in many ways. Firstly the venue - held at the Art Cafe (Soi 16 Pattaya-Naklua Road), which showed that it was capable of handling an influx of people and maintain a healthy buffet going at the same time. And despite the heat of the evening, the white wine was cold!

Peter Malhotra, MD of Pattaya Mail, and Raine Grady, the charming CEO of Capital TV introduce the Pattaya Mail Plus.

Pattaya Mail’s effervescent yachting scribe is flanked by Lalida and Varassaya Phanthusak from Woodlands Resort, future leaders of the Pattaya business community.

Graham Brain, Bartercard’s MD was also present for the networking evening, dispensing largesse as large men tend to do, while Worawat Rojrangsee, the executive business development manager rushed around introducing likely contacts to each other.

However, the big news of the evening, which was revealed after the viewing of a promotional video from Capital TV, was the fact that Capital TV, in conjunction with the Pattaya Mail, will be telecasting a new news, events and entertainment program called Pattaya Mail Plus!

This venture will commence next month and Raine Grady, the CEO of Capital TV, who came down to launch the program said she was very excited by the concept and felt that it would be a very positive promotional arm for Pattaya, since the Pattaya Mail Plus! program could be seen on Sophon Cable TV in Pattaya and world-wide on various international channels. Raine gave a brief background of her company saying, "Capital Television is an independent production company based in Bangkok. CTV has a strong Thai team and a multi-national group of reporters, production staff and computer design experts. "The show covers Asia, Indochina, Middle East & Pacific destinations. It airs twice weekly on STAR to an audience of 17 million homes (almost 100 million viewers) in more than 80 countries. ‘Travel Asia and Beyond’ has also been syndicated throughout Europe to AB Sat (West Europe), Escales France, UK Travel Channel (UK, Scandinavia & South Africa), and Foxtel Australia. Negotiations are underway with Canadian TV, Ireland and the USA. Various episodes of the show air in-flight on Thai Airways and Cathay Pacific.

Pattaya’s newest eco-tourist attraction is now open to the public. Vice Admiral Satiraphan Kaeyanond presided over the official opening ceremony on May 3 of the new Underwater Conservative Sea Park to commemorate the 50th birthday of HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.

Vice Admiral Satiraphan Kaeyanond is the director of this new project.

Officials from Pattaya City, the Royal Thai Navy, Tourism Authority of Thailand Central Region 3, and private sectors organized an underwater sea park exhibition at Pattaya Beach, opposite Soi 4, to honor the occasion.

The decommissioned H.T.M.S. Khram, a medium-size landing ship acquired by the Royal Thai Navy in 1962, which served for over 40 years, was sunk on the east side of Bamboo Island (‘Koh Phai’) on January 30th of this year.

The ship has become an artificial reef, where marine life has bloomed, and will attract enthusiastic divers from around the world. It now lies on the seabed, 300 meters off Bamboo Island at latitude 12 degrees 55 minutes north of the equator and longitude 100 degrees 100 degrees 41 minutes 26 seconds east of Greenwich.

Vice Admiral Satiraphan Kaeyanond and Mayor Pairat Suttithamrongsawat release shrimp into the sea as part of the opening ceremony.

In compliance with new policies handed down from Bangkok’s central government, the project was conceived as an environmental marine park which would upgrade the beauty of the sea in Pattaya waters and nurture an increasing abundance of sea creatures in the area in order to promote eco-tourism.

Activities on May 3 and 4 included a coral reef and sea animal preservation exhibition, fundamental diving lessons, recounting the history of the H.T.M.S. Khram prior to its decommissioning, and the release of one million baby shrimps to the sea.

Scuba divers provided free guided tours and took visitors to see the sunken ship, which has become the new home for marine life.

For more information on the trip to the sunken vessel call Tourism Authority of Thailand, Central Region 3 office at 038-428750, and 038-427667.
