Thanks to the fine job done by the Plaza Athenee team, later at the hotel’s bar it was decided to organize a 2nd get-together in December. This event will be hosted by Frederic Lucron, GM of the Hilton International Bangkok At Nai Lert Park.

‘Dressed like gods’ - the cultural event of the year

From October 19 until 22 December 22, ‘Dressed like gods’, a major Mexican archaeological exhibition will be held at the National Museum, Bangkok. This unique event will be one of the major cultural events during APEC and of Thailand in 2003. It will be the first opportunity that Thais have ever had to see artifacts from one of the world’s great cultures.

‘Dressed like gods’ is a collection of 60 masterpiece sculptures, depicting the sacred symbolism used in the costumes of the Zapotecs and Mixtecs, two of the main pre-Hispanic societies of Mexico’s southern state of Oaxaca. Divided into seven sections, this important exhibition will explore the rich culture of Oaxaca from its first inhabitants (9000-2000 B.C) to its most splendid era - the Classic period in Mesoamerica (200-800 A.D.)

Commenting on the forthcoming exhibition, the ambassador of Mexico to Thailand, HE Javier Ramon Brito said, “We are delighted to have been able to bring an exhibition of this caliber to Thailand and to be able to share with the people of Thailand, the richness of the Mexican cultural heritage. It is the first time in the 28 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Mexico that we have been in a position to present our archaeological treasures in this way. It is a particularly appropriate moment, as the exhibition will coincide with the visit of Mexican President Vicente Fox to Thailand for the APEC Economic Leader’s Forum.”

The exhibition has been put together and brought to Thailand by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) of Mexico - which manages the world-renowned Museum of Anthropology and History in Mexico City, Mexico’s National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA) and the Embassy of Mexico in Thailand with the support of the Thai Government.

As part of their promotional program, the Vassili Travel Company organized a Fam Trip for 15 travel agents from St. Petersburg on a visit to Thailand. The Fam trip, otherwise known as a familiarization trip, was arranged to introduce Thailand and Pattaya to travel agents to promote tour groups to the region.

A magnificent seafood BBQ dinner was served at the Larn Tong Terrace in the Royal Cliff Beach Resort.

Throughout their stay the group was given a guided tour of the city’s four and five star hotels, including the Dusit Resort Pattaya, Grand Jomtien Hotel, and the Royal Cliff Beach Resort. They visited popular tourist spots such as Nong Nooch Gardens where they were able to watch unique shows and a night tour of the city allowed the visitors to see Pattaya’s after-dark entertainment scene.

Supasit Prarbpanya, representing Vassili said, “The object of the visit was to promote Thailand and more specifically Pattaya as a popular holiday destination and prove that we have a beautiful country. This trip was primarily a fun visit and we certainly hope that they return to their home and promote our city to their customers.”

After a hectic schedule the travel agents were treated to lavish seafood barbeque dinner at the Larn Tong Terrace in the Royal Cliff Beach Resort, which proved popular with everyone. After dinner they were treated to a stunning cabaret show at Tiffany’s. The next day the group spent a relaxing day enjoying sun and sea on Rayong’s Samet Island.

Supasit added, “Some of these travel agents had never been to Thailand although they have sent clients here for holidays. They were very happy with their trip and remarked how clean and safe the region is. And of course they all raved about the fabulous Thai food they were served.”
