Jurgen Voss was a renowned member of Thailand’s
society. He was considered to be one of the “Three Musketeers”,
which also included Alois X. Fassbind and Bruno Forrer. He survived
Alois and Bruno by only a few years. Jugen Voss died recently in Pagan.
Born on April 29, 1940, Jurgen Voss came to Thailand
in 1966, where he worked as the maitre d’ hotel at the Normandie Grill
at the Oriental Hotel until 1980. From there he went to Saipan in Guam
as a food& beverage manager. In 1986 he came back to his beloved
Thailand and began working as an F&B manager at the newly opened
Royal Wing of the Royal cliff Beach Resort. Working with his friends
Alois and Bruno, he helped make the 5 Star Royal Wing a great success.
In 1990 he had to move to Hong Kong, working in the
same position at the Peninsula Hotel, but driven by his love for
Thailand he moved back only two years later and went to work at the
Kamala Bay in the South of Thailand. Again two years later, in 1992 he
was called to Bangkok to help open the newly built Imperial Queen Park
Hotel, where he held the position of the general manager.
The Bayoke group called and he went to Rangoon in
Burma to open the Bayoke Kandawgyi Hotel there, and stayed until 1997.
From there he moved to Pagan, working as general manager at the Pagan
Hotel, where he stayed until the day of his death.
Jurgen Voss was an intelligent and extraordinary man,
a hard working hotelier and his employees loyally followed him like
soldiers – and Jurgen was always as loyal to them as he was to his
employers. He loved a life in luxury and he was one of the few who were
born to be a host. He fit perfectly into the old-fashioned lifestyle of
his times.
Jurgen Voss, you will be in our memory forever.
