First class cuisine for Thailand’s train passengers
In an effort to upgrade its services, travelers using the
First Class services of Thailand’s train network could soon dine on board in
style thanks to a policy shift by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
SRT Chief, Jitsanti Thanasophon, has expressed a wish to
upgrade the services offered to First Class passengers, in particular by
offering them food on par with that served in the dining rooms of the nation’s
leading hotels.
“These ‘hotels on wheels’ will be aimed at tourists and
civil servants, who form an extremely lucrative market for the state rail
service,” said Jitsanti. The SRT says that if the project proves successful,
it could also be extended to Second Class carriages. (TNA)

Thailand and Nepal in aviation talks
Thailand is currently involved in aviation negotiations with
Nepal in a bid to see more tourists traveling between the two countries, Deputy
Transport Minister Vichet Kasemthongsri announced.
The talks form the latest in a series of ‘open skies’
aviation talks with countries both inside and outside the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) grouping, which Prime Minister Thaksin
Shinawatra has asked the Department of Aviation Transport to conduct within the
next six months.
Noting that ‘open skies’ policies served to boost
tourism, generate foreign revenue and promote air cargo, Vichet said that the
talks with Nepal followed similar negotiations with China and India.
Under the terms of the Nepal deal, all Thai and Nepali
airports will be open to flights from both countries. The deal also means that
the number of weekly flights between the two countries will be increased to 22,
compared to only seven at present. (TNA)
