Pattaya Mail turns 11 whilst Pattaya Blatt learns to walk at 2
To commemorate and celebrate the auspicious dates of the
birth of two of Pattaya’s best known and most read newspapers, a
Buddhist religious ceremony was held at the Pattaya Mail Publishing
Company offices on Second Road on Friday July 23.
Nine monks, led by Phra Khru Patrakijviboon
affectionately known as Acharn Kan, abbot of Wat Huay Yai, chanted prayers
and bestowed blessings on the company and all those who attended. It was
meant to be a quiet affair, just for management and staff, but some
distinguished guests came by to wish us a happy birthday, including Mayor
Niran Wattanasartsathorn.
The ceremonies were held to mark the 11th
Anniversary of the Pattaya Mail, Pattaya’s First English Language
Newspaper on July 23 and the 2nd birthday of the Pattaya
Blatt, the German language newspaper for Thailand, on July 7.
Pattaya Mail in co-operation with Capital TV also
has a very popular television show known as the Pattaya Mail Plus,
which is shown on Sophon Cable TV.
Monks bestowed blessings on the Malhotra family
businesses of Massic Travel and Classic Tailors operating in the same
building.
After the ceremonies everyone was invited to enjoy our
home made lunch prepared by family and friends.
It was an informal affair, but friends who learned that ceremonies were
to be held came by to wish us well. We cannot name all of you here, but we
sincerely thank you very much for your treasured friendship.

do and plenty to see. Such was the message at last week’s ‘Welcome to
Petchabun’ Road Show at the Central Festival Center.
(L-R)
Niti Kongkrut, director TAT Region 3 Pattaya, Sewee Petchburnin, president
of the Business Association of Petchabun, Direk Thuengfang the governor of
Petchabun, Virawat Khakhai, Pattaya deputy mayor, Thanet
Supornsahasrungsee, president of PBTA and Dr. Nilawan Petchburnin, deputy
chief of industry of Thailand.
With the new government policies encouraging Thais to
travel and discover the treasures of Thailand, the Tourist Authority of
Thailand in cooperation with the Province of Petchabun and the Business
Association of that province, set off on a road show which would take the
promotional team to Chonburi, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai and on to
Khaosarn Road in Bangkok during the month of July.
The
Ancient Srithep Dance held the audience spellbound.
Direk Thuengfang, the governor of Petchabun province
who opened the exhibition on Saturday July 24, heads the road show.
Governor Direk said that the road show is a joint venture to encourage and
assist people of Petchabun to introduce their products under the One
Tambon One Product (OTOP) project, but more importantly to make known to
people from the other regions in Thailand the possibilities of visiting
the province.
OTOP
products from Petchabun Province were a big hit during the road show.
“We the people of Petchabun are very proud of our
heritage.” He went on to say the slogan of Petchabun province, “One
Night in Petchabun extends your life by 1 year” speaks for itself,
referring to the fresh, clean air.
Petchabun also boasts a civilization dating back more
than 2000 years. Some of the more famous places, such as the historical
Srithep Park and the Por Khun Pha Muang monument, draw thousands of
visitors each year.
The governor extended an invitation to everyone in Pattaya and the east
coast to visit Petchabun, saying that Petchabun is easily assessable by 4
major highways and the traveling time by car is only 5 1/2 hours.

The candle composition festival has been annually
celebrated in the kingdom for hundreds of years. Throughout the rainy
season, Buddhist monks will be staying in their temples to practice the
teachings of Buddha. In the past, candles were the only source of light to
help the monks read the holy book.
The
candle composition festival has been annually celebrated in the kingdom
for hundreds of years.
Today, candles may no longer be practical in most of
the temples, but the department of culture doesn’t want this festive
ceremony to fade away.
So, Banglamung’s culture department, Wat Chaimongkol,
Pattaya police station, Tourism Authority of Thailand Central Region 3,
and Pattaya City Hall last week jointly organized candle composition
festival.
On the
Buddhist Lent day, August 1, devotees will deliver the candles to local
temples to mutually celebrate the beginning of Buddhist Lent.
Surat Mekhawarakul, Banglamung culture department
president and chairman of the culture council, headed the celebration held
at Wat Chaimongkhol.
The festival was also held to commemorate the 6th cycle
birthday of HM the Queen. Besides the candle composing festival, Buddhist
devotees also donated alms to the monks.
On the day, devotees carried their candles in a procession from Wat
Chaimongkol back to their schools, organizations, and offices to prepare
for the upcoming event. On the Buddhist Lent day, August 1, devotees will
deliver the candles to forty-four temples in Pattaya City and the
Banglamung area for the Buddhists to mutually celebrate the beginning of
Buddhist Lent.
