Tetley’s Smooth slips into Thailand
One of the UK’s top selling beers is now
available in Thailand thanks to the persistence of one avid consumer. Kevin
Springett, Bowling Green director and managing director of the Real Ale
Company said he used to live just a few kilometers from the brewery in
Leeds. He wanted his favorite beer here in Thailand, Tetley’s draught
bitter in a smooth flow can.
The dark beer comes in a 440ml can with the famous widget
at the bottom to give the beer its froth. It is the closest beer lovers will
get to real draught at the moment, Kevin says. But, don’t despair; once
the logistics are resolved there is a strong possibility that the true
draught will be available in the near future.
Kevin is the distributor for the Eastern Seaboard and is
aiming at supplementing the market with Tetley’s, as he is sure there is
enough demand for the smooth beer. “It took me about a year and half to
get a container of Tetley’s into Thailand and there were a lot of
processes to go through, especially through customs. Then there’s the
exchange rate on top of that,” said Kevin
“In the first week we’ve managed to distribute quite
a few cases to the local pubs and we’re aiming at primarily the British
pubs and hotels with English clientele,” he added. He plans to launch the
beer in the market alongside F&B’s new English sausage in early
August.
The beer currently retails at around 150 baht per can and wholesale
enquiries for the region can be made through Kevin at 01 865 743 or 038 720
743.
Opportunity
for female newcomers
Sharon Tibbitts, President PILC
The Pattaya International Ladies Club is offering new
opportunities for female newcomers in the Pattaya area.
As the months fly by, the PILC is making great strides
for the membership body. When I took the position of president for the
coming year, I wanted PILC to go “Back to Basics” for our membership and
truly be a support net for all! I feel we are continuing toward that with
every meeting; whether it be a coffee morning or luncheon. I want to take
yet another step further and offer even more to those who are making Pattaya,
the Eastern Seaboard, and surrounding areas their new home.
At our meeting in July, we decided take a new direction
for the club that will aid us to be even more supportive to “newcomers”.
We decided to start a “Newcomer” Coffee morning the fourth Monday in
each month. The first will be September 27 at Casa Pascal, hosted by Kim
Schnyder at 11:30 am.
“Newcomer” coffee mornings will be a short meeting
for only newcomers to the area. During the coffee morning we will talk about
the PILC and offer friendship by providing the strong support net we are
known for as the members of the PILC. I believe that by helping people in
their first few days to this area, we are giving them an “at home
connection” with the others who can guide them in their new home,
Thailand.
For directions to Casa Pascal contact Kim Schnyder, 038-723-660 or,
Sharon Tibbitts, 038-360-135 or 060-956-928.
