Kids go green on Children’s Day

The management and staff of Dusit Resort, Pattaya led by Chatchawal Supachayanont (back, center) with the children and their parents.

Chatchawal Supachayanont, Dusit Resort, Pattaya’s general manager, recently led the hotel’s Green Leaf committee to organize a ‘green tent’ on the grounds of Pattaya City Hall on Children’s Day.

Hotel staff and volunteers, headed by Green Leaf Committee chairman Prawes Akanimart, taught the children recycling tips, and how they can help their parents conserve water and energy in the house. Fun games were organized and children were treated to ice cream, gifts and treats.
Children were given tips on how they can save energy at home, like turning off the lights when no one is in the room, turning off the TV, games and computer when they are not in use, closing the taps to properly to avoid dripping, and recycling information.
“We want to inspire kids to be more environmentally friendly and this is a good opportunity for us to reach them. The most cost-effective way to reduce energy consumption is at home. We want to show our children that even the seemingly small decisions we make every day can really add up when we work together to make the world a better place,” Chatchawal said.

Shopping with the Street Kids Home

Dorothy Knowles
The Pattaya International Ladies Club raises a lot of money for charitable causes. One of the many projects that it helps is the Street Kids Home. The following is an article written by Dorothy Knowles, one of the volunteers who helped each child to select a pair of shoes, a skirt or pair of trousers and a top, during a recent shopping trip at Carrefour in Pattaya.

Rosanne Diamente leads some of the children through the shoe department.
Over two evenings, January 16 and 17, PILC volunteers took 180 children shopping. The original plan was to do the shopping over three evenings, but we all know plans somehow get changed!
At 4.30 on 16th January, 60 children were expected from the Street Kids Home. 8 PILC volunteers, plus a husband and a son who were somehow persuaded to join in the fun, waited for the children to arrive. But, change of plan, 80 kids were on their way! Sisters and staff from the home accompanied the final count of 97 happy and excited children eager to start shopping. The boys all favoured clothing with Superman or Spiderman motifs, while the girls chose pink and pretty.
In what seemed like no time at all, obviously due to excellent planning and organization, and extremely well behaved girls and boys (none of the other shoppers even seemed to be aware of this invasion), the shopping spree was over for the first round.
The next evening was to be the final shop and 83 children arrived at 4.30 p.m., mostly older children and teenagers this time. Thankfully, more PILC volunteers came to help out. This time, the boys grouped together and headed off and the girls hit the shoe department first. After numerous changes of outfits and mini fashion shows near the changing rooms, everyone was eventually happy, and, surprisingly for teenagers, stayed well within budget with their purchases.
All too soon the fun and enjoyment was over again! Such a rewarding experience to see 180 children so happy and grateful for what may seem in our eyes such a small reward. It is one I will definitely be repeating whenever the opportunity arises.
If you would like any further information about PILC Welfare activities, or how you can help or become a sponsor, please contact Rosanne Diamente 0818650714.

80 kids say thank you to PILC members for taking them on a shopping trip to Carrefour.

Asian University competes in the 2006/2007 Thailand University Games

Asian University made a good showing in their first ever University Games competition.

Asian University has successfully competed in the ‘University Games’ competition for the first time, with positive results for all participants.
Friday January 19 saw the official opening ceremony held at Srinakharinwiirot University in Nakon Nayok with the one-hundred and fourteen competing universities marching into the gymnasium to the beautiful spectacle of the highly professional ceremony, organized by the host university.
In what proved to be an exciting and full tournament Asian U students came away with a positive outlook and a true sense of comradeship and sporting achievement. While Asian University is considerably smaller than many of the participating universities, our students were very pleased to participate in this national competition.
This second stage of the competition saw our students competing in many of the racquet sports after playing football, petanque and basketball in Ayutthaya in the latter part of 2006.
