Thai lawyers’ responsibility

Editor;
Thousands of these nominees shareholding companies were created through the use and at the advice of a Thai lawyer for property purchases by foreigners. Now we’re told these companies are illegal, and have always been illegal. Where’s the responsibility of the Thai lawyer in this illegal action? Shouldn’t fees be refunded, shouldn’t civil and criminal actions be taken by both the foreign customer and the local Thai prosecutor’s office?
Where are the ethics here? Aren’t Thai lawyers bound by what’s legal and what’s not legal, aren’t oaths taken to practice law that is legal in Thailand?
Is this a country of laws or scams?
Feeling ripped off,

Money better spent?

Dear Pattaya Mailbag:
We are residents of Najomtien and contribute economically to this area of Thailand. However, it seems that the Pattaya administration would like us to contribute to solving their problems of crime, traffic, etc. As we have seen that much money has been spent ridiculously on signs and double lighting of highways (note the new tall center lights being erected on Sukhumvit Road, although there are adequate lights already) and filling of potholes in roads which were not constructed properly in the first place, how does the administration expect us to donate more money for them to spend at their will and probably fill the bank coffers of certain officials who have interests in cement, lighting, etc.
As to crime, isn’t the taxpayers’ money enough to fight this without extra donations from residents?
As to road accidents in Pattaya, the police force does nothing when cars and motorcycles jump red lights or drive down the wrong side of the road. They seem to be totally involved in pulling over cars who use the fast lane and who cause no traffic problems. Maybe it would be nice to see some money spent on protecting pedestrians in Pattaya by either building some overhead walkways or setting up proper pedestrian crossings (with working lights).

Environmental vandalism

Editor
Who was it who ordered the almost total destruction of the beautiful shade trees on a little beach called Hill beach which is located just around the point after Pattaya Park? These wonderful trees must have been there for a 100 years or more and they have been totally butchered of all their lower limbs in a way that they will never recover. One can only suspect that someone was well financially rewarded.
I can’t imagine that something like that goes on in Pattaya but it does seem strange that the hotel that fronts on to the beach and who’s lower floors had no sea view now does. If this suspicion is incorrect then perhaps city hall can enlighten the tree lovers of Pattaya why this act was allowed to take place.
Come on expats of Pattaya; we spend plenty of money here, speak up about these unnecessary senseless acts of environmental vandalism.

Pattaya bay radio going Thai

To: [email protected]
I’ve been in Jomtien about 3 months now. I listen to 103FM a lot; I’ve noticed recently a big increase in Thai language input, both in ads and presentation content. Are the Thais so nationalistic that they want to control the only English speaking radio station in the region? The airwaves are literally clogged up with Thai language radio stations already, and if the majority of 103FM’s listeners are non Thai, what is the point of this Thai interference? I for one don’t have a clue what they’re on about.
