A very busy PCEC meeting
There have recently been some very full meetings of the
Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) but the programme on Sunday April 1st at
Henry J. Bean’s must have been one of the busiest.
Surityont Klindee (left), manager of the Pattaya Beach
Bus Company provides the club with details of the three bus routes and the
costs of travel tickets.
This week’s MC, John Lynham, introduced the first of the
morning’s speakers, Surityont Klindee, the manager of the Pattaya Beach Bus
Company. Surityont provided details of the three bus routes and the costs of
the daily (90 baht), three day (180 baht) and monthly (900 baht) travel
tickets. A family ticket is currently under consideration and also the
production of a timetable. Surityont then generously provided a number of
travel tickets which were the prizes of an impromptu draw.
The PCEC was then honoured to welcome the nai amphur,
chief of the Banglamung district, Pratheep Chongsubthum. Pratheep was at the
club to present identification cards, personally signed by the nai amphur,
to members of the Banglamung District Cross Culture Volunteer Group. This
was in recognition of the group’s contribution by providing free English
conversation classes. Pratheep addressed the PCEC saying that the classes
had improved the life and job prospects of those attending and that he had
been impressed by the calibre of the volunteer teachers and the progress of
their students.
It was then announced that Reina Rances from the Bangkok
Hospital Pattaya was leaving the hospital. It was recognised that Reina had
been invaluable, liaising with the hospital and helping to solve any
problems. Reina’s replacement will be introduced soon but in the meantime a
farewell dinner was to be held on Sunday 1st April at the Aloha Restaurant.
Chairman Andre Machielsen then announced the departure of
Sally Techasopon. Sally was presented with a bouquet of flowers and
certificate in recognition of her work behind the scenes and readiness to
assist the club.
The club newsletter is considered to be an important
method of information distribution particularly to those members who may be
overseas. The efforts of Darrel Vaught were recognised as the lead editor,
writer and designer of the newsletter, the format of which he has totally
redesigned.
Chairman Andre Machielsen then provided the final details
of the club sponsored trip to Koh Chang. The trip will leave on the 18th
April and return on the 20th deliberately avoiding the Songkran celebrations
in Pattaya.
In keeping with club’s policy to invite the attendees to
participate in announcements, Majorie Blissett provided the upcoming events
and Jim Jones described the activities of the Special Interest groups.
The regular Open Forum, mediated by Rod Betts, was then
underway and this proved to be the usual lively and entertaining session.

In his home country of Switzerland, Joe Schiochet is
known not only for being a financier of large-scale projects but also for
his generous attitude towards people in need. On March 21, Joe turned 48 and
celebrated his birthday at the Swiss House.
Host Andy Wenger and his wife Noi made all the
arrangements, helped by Joe’s wife Gung, and many of Joe’s friends and
acquaintances came along to offer their congratulations.
Upon Joe’s arrival at the Swiss House on Soi Diamond, the
Swiss Sabai Power Band, consisting of Niki and George, began to play a
birthday serenade. The duo went on to perform many evergreens throughout the
evening, while the wine and grappa, and the atmosphere of camaraderie, was
enjoyed in abundance.

years, so all could “go wild and crazy”.
